      I raised this issue on the JeepGladiatorforum and linked your video as part of the discussion but it appears that you CANNOT order it any more on Gladiators (JT's) as of 2024. Don't know about JL's. It (full time 4WD) ONLY is available on the new Mojave and Rubicon X versions. X ONLY not a regular Rubicon or Mojave.
      We had a guy in the discussion who was AT the dealership ordering and so they had access to the JEEP dealership Ordering software and the dealership itself was not happy apparently as they had lots of people ordering on 2023 versions and now were going to have to sell them up if that was a personal requirement for a customer. Interesting... @@CheaperJeeperTV

Do it while the jeep is moving, I.E., Don't try to do it parked. I have seen a lot of that. Struggles, go away, if you shift on the fly. That used to be in Jeeps advertising.

    Thanks for the great explanation of the differences between the transfer case modes. Does you Jeep have a front axle disconnect for the 2H mode? I wonder how the computer controls FAD in 4H-Auto mode. Is the front axle always connected in 4H-A even if the rear tires may never slip and torque is rarely sent to the front differential or does FAD automatically kick in and out in sync with the 4H-A distribution picked by the computer...

      @@CheaperJeeperTV why does it seem like the gears bind when I back up with the wheels turned.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  Před 2 lety

      Hey sunseasurff1000,
      I believe when in four wheel drive, the gears are not designed to operate differentially for the different spin going on at each tire when in a turn. I assume you are in 4L or 4H? You should only use 4L or 4H on loose terrain like gravel, sand, mud or snow., so the wheels have the ability to slip when needed. On pavement, the wheels will hop or bind because during a turn, the gears in 4WD wont allow them to spin differentially. Continued use of 4WD in a turn on pavement can cause damage to your gears, so I'd avoid that scenario wherever possible. I hope this helped. Cheers.

    Thanks for the incredibly helpful video! Very easy to understand! One question I have is whether Jeep’s 4H Auto would be most equivalent to Subaru’s AWD. I won’t be doing serious off-roading but Jeep’s design and its ruggedness are hard to resist, and Subaru’s reliability and their AWD seem awesome as well. Thanks!

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  Před 3 lety +3

      Hey Andrew, WOW! What a question. Especially given that the new Subaru designs coming out look really nice too. I couldn’t really answer your question with any authority as I don’t know very much about the Subaru options. However there are some Subaru off-road CZcamsrs that you could watch and ask. I understand why you’re in a quandary though. I’d be wondering the same thing. Good luck.

    • @personalfunfest
      @personalfunfest Před 2 lety +3

      NO.. 4H Auto is like a "slip and grip" awd system. If the back slips a clutch temporarily engages to send power to the front to help you out. Then the clutch disengages. It is not a true full-time 4WD system like a Lexus GX460 or Toyota Landcruiser which use a real center differential. Most Subaru systems are slip and grip, the higher end WRX models are full time awd. But your typical outback and forester etc are slip and grip...

      David Mytchak Dave, yeah, I really wasn’t sure if MOAB edition had lockers/sway bar or not, or some other upgrades to off road components, don’t really see many around me (Long Island, NY). I have a 2016 75th Anniversary Edition, which is a dressed up Sahara with a Rubi Hood, nicer interior and Trak Lok (LSD) rear differential (not Tru lok). I really only learned the locker and sway bar specifics after I bought it. I probably could have gotten a Rubicon for a few grand more (paid $35K in 2019 with 12K miles). I see the same vehicle at price now with more mileage. I would like to get another, prob a 2018-2019 Rubicon with under 20k miles, but impossible to find < $45K. I love the JLs and the addition of full time 4WD option (for my wife really), in addition to standard 4H and 4L.

      Hi Nas, I’ve looked that up on the forums too and didn’t find anyone willing to commit to a maximum speed. Mostly the responses I’ve read related to your question state that if you are safely able to drive at speed anyway, you shouldn’t need to be in 4WD. I have SelecTrac in my Jeep and I am able to drive at HWY speed with that. Sorry I couldn't offer anything more definitive for you about that. Cheers.

    I had an older 1988 Wrangler and you had to stop and put it in neutral to shift the transfer case. The new JL is so much better, but my transfer case lever is SUPER difficult to change. Seems like yours is rather easy. I may take it in to have it looked at as its only got 1500 miles on it.

    Love your channel, and how easily you explain everything. I just got a 2022 JL and I was a bit worried about the sounds it makes when putting it into 4Low. The first, it was very tough, until I realized I didn't have my Drive shifter in Neutral. Now with that in Neutral, I found it much easier to shift the transfer case into 4L. I do have a couple of questions. I understand the part about its better if the Jeep is moving 1-3mph (US here) when you shift into 4L, however what do you do if you are on an incline, or already in a situation when you need 4L? Do you try to give it a little gas and then quickly shift? Or in those cases, is it ok to shift to 4L while stationary? It is possible to shift into 4L when going in reverse? Keep up the great work!

    • @CheaperJeeperTV

      Hey Boy 2 Quick, it is still possible to switch it into 4H if you’re not moving. I believe It’s just recommended if possible to do it while rolling. Maybe it has something to do with gears possibly grinding? If it’s in 4H and you hit patches of snow and then dry pavement, I believe you still should be ok as long as there are no turns when in 4H. When turning on pavement in 4H it’s likely that your gears will start binding and your tires may start hopping. It’s not good for the gears. Cheers.

    A couple of notes, 4h part time is defiantly not for rock crawling, but forest access roads yes.
    4L is generally used not for more power (although it will do that) it helps out the trans when it's under load at low speed by giving it a mechanical advantage. It's primary use off road though is to help you slow down for control, while still giving you the power you need at 2kph to move the jeep.
    Lastly, you should never be in gear when shifting to 4 Low, you should always be in neutral. As to shifting while moving, I usually do it while stopped to avoid grinding. If it won't drop in to gear I usually bump the transmission in to drive for a second and then back to Neutral, doing that will usually get things moving inside the transfer case enough to let you shift without grinding.
    Last thing, on air compressors, check out the MV50, it's made by various companies Smittybuilt seems to be the popular one at the moment and while they don't use the mv50 model any local off road shop will point you in the right direction. They are just about bullet proof and for the money will go far faster than any cigarette lighter compressor and last far longer. Particularly as you move to larger tires, they take up no more space than the one you showed and are well worth the money. I've had mine for about 10 years now and while it's semi retired due to me installing a much faster and more expensive one it still gets pressed into service as a backup or loaned out when I guide newbie runs. They typically cost about double what a "higher end" part store one does, but will fill more then twice as fast, and that can be a big deal when the mosquitoes are out at the end of the day.

I thought I mentioned that in the video, however, you may find the information at the following link helpful if you're interested in learning more about it. Depending on where you live, you may not really miss not having it. I find it most helpful when driving on roads with icy patches and then dry pavement patches.
      Cheers

    Hello Dino,
    My name is Dietmar. I am from Austria / Europe. I have a new Wranger JL Sahara.
    First of all: Your videos are very interesting and good!
    And now I have a question for the expert. Maybe you can answer it or - much better - you make a video about it.
    We would like to add a front and rear diff lock. As I know, this can work because the Sahara has a DANA 44 (rear) and 35 (fron) axle.
    Usually traction control on 4L brakes a spinning wheel. Will that work if you add a diff lock on both axles?
    Regads Dietmar

      Hello Dietmar, I'm not an expert on that sort of thing. However, after my Overlanding Cape Breton video, it was something that I was considering also. I'd have to do a bit more research on the topic before I'd have much to say. Maybe it will be a video later. Thank you for watching from Austria. I've been to Vienna, a lovely city. Cheers.

    New jeep owner, what gear would you recommend for sand?

      @CheaperJeeperTV  Před 3 lety

      Hey Duchess21, I'm a new Jeep owner as well, and as of yet I have not been on sand, just trails in Northern Ontario. What I understand is important off road, AND on sand, is to reduce your tire pressure, like down to 21 psi. The type of tires you have is important also. You for sure would benefit from being in 4H. Given my lack of experience on sand, that's all I'd be able to say. I'd post onto the forums or in your local Jeep Club FaceBook group for more. Cheers

      @@CheaperJeeperTV Thanks. I have another question :). We're getting some snow where I live, so on my way to work this morning I easily put it into 4H. When I was backing into my parking spot it was not acting right. I couldnt steer it right. It's like I was stuck. Can you not go in reverse in 4H?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  Před 3 lety

      @@andreasantora7363 If there area where you were backing into your parking spot was fairly clear of snow, your gears may have been binding. 4H should only be used on loose surfaces like snow, gravel, sand, dirt, and mud, not pavement. If you were on fairly cleared roads but going straight, it isn't a big of an issue as when you are turning the wheel, like when parking. The inside and outside wheels during a turn would be turning at different rates, and cause your gears to bind. This may cause damage to your gears, so I'd recommend that if it's not very snowy or icey, take it out of 4H. I hope that helped.

    Hi, I am experiencing skidding and hoping on my Jeep when I put it in 4h, this happens even when there is snow on the ground when I am turning. How do I check if there is binding in the gears? Is it costly to replace? Thank you in advance! Also when park do I switch back to 2h or can I leave it in 4h?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey DOfifteen, When I am parked in a snowy spot, I leave it in 4H so I can drive in 4H to get out, and I have had no issue doing that in my JL. As for your Jeep skidding and hopping when you put it in 4H, I don't know why it would do that. I'd recommend joining your local Jeep FaceBook group and post your question there. Maybe someone nearby can help you out, or at least recommend a good local mechanic. Good luck.

    The manual says not to pause the transfer case in N but I find it difficult to go from 4low directly into 4hi and sometimes it goes right into 2h. Is it ok to pause it in N prior to going into 4h? And is it problematic if it does go directly to 2h by accident?

      @@CheaperJeeperTV @john madsen you can buy aftermarket front and rear diff locks. this is what the rubicon has. the lower models only have the centre diff lock so power is sent to the front and back 50/50 but if one front wheel goes up in the air all the 50% front power would go to that wheel.

Also, check your tire pressure. There is a sticker on the driver side door jam which indicates what your tires should be set at. Many times, new cars off the lot have tire pressure set too high.
