    Alucard's anger at Anderson using the nail was for a very personal reason.
    Alucard saying, earlier, that he'd lost the will to live wasn't just for the sake of giving Seras a pep talk. He was *tired* of existing, but he couldn't let himself die without leaving behind someone to fight the worst of humanity, and the monsters like himself. He wanted to know there would be someone to protect those who were too weak to protect themselves.
    He saw in Anderson a protector who wasn't a monster, someone who could take his place, so that he, Alucard, could finally rest. He saw a kindred spirit who would do the right thing and make the hard choices so others wouldn't have to.
    Seras was also chosen for the same reason, and what he told her was the truth. He saw that she was willing to survive, but wouldn't sacrifice her humanity to do it. Even becoming a full vampire by drinking Pip's blood, she didn't change (too much) as a person, and she didn't become a monster. She was a vampire with the heart and soul of a human.
    So when Anderson stabbed his own heart with that nail, Alucard lost his hope in Anderson. Anderson became God's Monster, just to beat Alucard, and in doing so, chose to intentionally forsake his own humanity. In Alucard's eyes, this was the deepest possible betrayal.
    So, when Alucard said "No, no, *no",* it wasn't because Anderson was calling on God. It was because Alucard was furious, because Anderson mirrored what Alucard did. He gave up his humanity to become a monster, and in doing so became Alucard's opposite in the worst possible way.
    One of the few humans Alucard genuinely respected became like the one thing Alucard genuinely, truly hates, *despises,* above all else; himself, and in the original anime, that nearly broke Alucard.

      @MrJamaigar Před 15 dny +2

      Abridged Alucard ,in that regard, is closer to the manga:
      Anderson was his second worthiest human opponent after Abraham Van Hellsing.
      Van Hellsing comes first for having none of Anderson's enhancements to help him fight Dracula.
      Anderson was more of an extremist , who would literally turn himself into a monster in order to win. To Alucard, that was a cowardly tactic that made the whole fight meaningless. As far as he was concerned, no victory was worth throwing one's humanity away. The honour for Alucard comes from being defeated by a human capable of rivalling him.

    The reason Alucard was pissed off when Anderson pulled out he Jesus Juice Nail is because in the anime he clearly says in an early episode that it takes a man to kill a monster. He want's to die and only a strong human can kill him, like Seras' ancestor did when they captured and imprisoned Dracula. Once Anderson put that nail into himself, even if he was imbued with the power of God he was no longer a man and was incapable of killing Alucard.

    • @rainestar6781
      @rainestar6781 Před 2 měsíci +20

      He was incapable of killing Alucard in either form without him willingly submitting, which is what his lines mean. He wants to die, but he wants a true human, a human he considers worthy, to do it. He once attempted to allow Abraham Van Hellsing to kill him, but despite his prowess Abraham proved incapable of doing so. Instead he captured him and studied him, creating the Hellsing Organization around him. Alexander misunderstood that Alucard would gladly submit to him, and fell back on the nail when he realized he couldn't defeat him as he was. Alucard was testing him, and he failed, so he died.
      It is a very interesting way to make an overpowered character: have them essentially be a Big Bad Evil Guy on a leash waiting for his "Chosen One" to come put him out of his misery.

    38:40 what i absolutely love about this scene is the fact that exemplifies what it's essentially everyone's plan up to this point: strand the invincible vampire in the middle of the ocean, so they'd have time to attack London. Two armies, counting in the thousands, battling each other and killing everyone on sight.
    Yet, the second Alucard arrived, everyone froze. Thousands upon thousands of highly design monsters, thousands upon thousands of fanatical and well armed soldiers..., and yet, none dared to do anything, till Alucard did his first move: release all restraints on his power.
    At that second, two opposing armies forgot the others completely, and focused on eliminating Alucard, absolutely terrified and full on knowing that, should they let him power up, it wouldn't even be a battle anymore.
    And it wasn't. The second Alucard returned to his old form, it was a one-man-million-soul-army one-sided slaughter
    Against the thousands of Iscariot, agaisnt the thousands of Millenium, the Hellsing's had about a couple dozen men, Seras, and Alucard. Lose the soldiers, put Sera on guard duty, and with just Alucard, they turned the entire battle around in under a few minutes

    Something that wasn't in the abridged was that Seras was refusing blood so that she could "retain her humanity." Also, Pip tells Seras to drink his blood, which is actually important. Blood is tied to the soul, so when a vampire drinks blood, they eat your soul. Blood willingly given is more powerful than blood taken. This, as well as being sired by Alucard himself, is why Seras gets a hyper power boost.

    To kind of explain why Alucard is out of the action for some of the story, the writer, Koto Kirano, realized that he basically created the equivalent of an atomic bomb with Alucard early on: he’s so unstoppably powerful that it was hard to create actual stakes with him in the picture. So in the manga and anime, he basically takes him out of the story by having him ambush Rip and her crew.
    If I’m not mistaken, he can’t travel very far without his coffin and the dirt of his homeland, so he brought it aboard the blackbird when he assaulted the ship, but because he was in the middle of the ocean, communications were down, and “he can’t fly with his vampire powers,” he was basically stranded and had to literally paddle his way back to London.

      Also, the only blood she's had up until that point was small doses from Integra, just enough to keep her from starving. Pip was the first life she took, the first soul she consumed, and that's the trigger to become a full-fledged vampire in the show's lore...and since Pip gave it willingly, it was EXPONENTIALLY more powerful than most of the souls Alucard had taken.
      Alucard's power is quantity, and through sheer quantity he's an absolute beast. Seras' power is quality, and that one soul puts her well above almost everyone else in the series.

    The reason Alucard was so angry when Alexander impaled his heart with that nail was because Alucard is only willing to die by the hand of a human. Before, Alexander had nanites which gave him rapid healing but those were a human creation and Alexander was still human. When he used that nail, he became a monster. A monster in the service of god but a monster nonetheless and Alucard refuses to die by the hand of a monster. In that moment, a lot of his respect for Alexander was lost

    Fun fact blood essentially holds parts/if not the whole soul of a person in the Hellsing universe, so the reason Seras kills Zorin the way she does instead of drinking her blood (as well as the other nazi vampires) is because she does not want any part of them within her. Hence why she also spits out Zorin's fingers.

      Blood is the medium of the soul, the symbol of the ever shifting changes of life. While the mind holds that which is information, and the flesh that which is physical, the blood holds the greatest density of one’s spirit. Through the blood, one can draw upon the entirety of the soul. Blood taken hot holds a path to its enormity, and blood given fresh lets the whole of one’s being to follow.
      Disclaimer: this is a synthesis of my own spiritual beliefs and the show’s lore.

    When you guys were wondering at the beginning of episode 8 where Alucard actually was in the original anime for the past few episodes: exactly where he is in this. They didn't change anything like that. The Nazis purposely lured Alucard to that boat, knowing that he wouldn't be able to get back in time to stop their invasion. It was a genius move to get their #1 threat out of the way. As you saw in that episode, it couldn't keep him away for the whole thing, but... it kept him away for long enough.
    As for that rap at the end; TFS didn't just make that up from scratch - it's an alteration of a song about one of the American founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, from the musical Hamilton.

    So the whole 'Alucard being missing' thing is in the show. The Nazi's used Van winkle to get Hellsing to send Alucard onto the ship witht he intent of stranding him on the ship, since the inability to pass running water is a vampire weakness.

    • @nightdagger
      @nightdagger Před měsícem

      Alucard doesn't have that weakness, as shown in episode 3 when he's quite casually sipping red wine while flying in an airplane over the ocean in the daytime while Seras has to be locked up in a coffin in the darkness with the dirt of her homeland. He's so powerful that he can flat-out ignore most of the weaknesses that vampires have...garlic, crosses, running water, stakes through the heart, all of that mythological nonsense, none of that works on him, and whether or not direct sunlight does or not, we never get to see. He's gone beyond the myth.
      But he can't fly without an airplane, and he can't swim that far in a reasonable amount of time. So he's as stuck as anyone else would be in that situation, all powerful vampire or no.

  • @Summersong2262
    @Summersong2262 Před 2 měsíci +1

    There's a few scenes they cut from the abridged version earlier in the series. Basically, Seras isn't handling the vampire transition well, and she's not fond of feeding. She pretty much only cuts loose when she's in a rage. That scene you saw a glimpse of where she was sucking blood off Sir Integra's finger was a part of that. Basically she was getting weak because she was refusing to drink blood, and Integra didn't want a weak solider, so she intentionally cut her finger with a letter opener and sort of provoked Seras into feeding from her, and basically getting the fuck over her blood problem.
    So this scene here when she's fighting Zorin Blitz is sort of the culmination of that arc, where for the first time she really embraces her powers.
    The abridged series is great, and obv very funny, but they do cut out a bunch of the really cool conversations in favour of them memeing at each other.

    Something surprisingly underrated, is Seras Victoria's transformation into a full vampire. They shortened it for the abridged version, but when she awakens, Zorin Blitz notes that her troops were frozen in fear. She made a comment to the effect of watching artificial, nazi vampires staring, all but visually pissing themselves at the sight of Seras about to tear them to shreds. These troops of hers, who worship death and would gladly die with a smile on their face, stood in fear as the "German Bloody Mary" tears them apart like tissue paper.
    Additionally, her fight with Zorin Blitz was drastically shortened. Zorin further tries to manipulate her even after her full awakening, but Pip's soul and memories interfere and fragment Sera's, further protecting her. As Seras is about to execute Zorin, Schrodinger appears amongst the shattered memories(further foreshadowing his powers), telling Zorin she's lost, and is going to be even denied the mercy killing Millennium gives its agents(the self immolation you've seen several times now).

    49:22 so for those not in the know, Alucard’s backstory is really f’d up. *SPOILERS for those who want to learn**
    According to the wiki for his character, “Vlad III”, born in the 1430s, and eventually became known as “Vlad the Impaler”. However, prior to earning such a title, he was “enslaved by Ottoman conquerors when he was child” and…repeatedly SA’d by a ruler during that time for 10 years. That’s the connotation in the abridged when Abridged!Alucard asks, “Which set of prints were yours in the sand? The hand prints, the knee prints, OR the footprints behind THOSE?!” During the repeated assaults, he held onto a silver cross, praying for God to answer his prayers and save him from it.
    Some time after, he waged war against the Turks when he was known as “Voivode of Wallachia”, which is a more grandiose title for when he became a militant governor, tying back to his fearsome origins as The Impaler. He ultimately lost this war, and as a message of his failure was to be executed via decapitation, as seen at 51:08. Before his capture though, he consumed some blood on the battlefield, so while his decapitation would’ve spelled the end for him as a mortal, he’d become a true vampire. He turned to the powers of darkness then, because he realized that the God he thought was on his side during all those years of pain, had left him to suffer. He wasn’t there, during the 1st year, or the 2nd, or 3rd, 5th, or 10th, and he never stopped it sooner…but maybe darkness would answer his plea. And it did. Thus, “Alucard” was born, and just like the original anime states, he swore to never let another monster like him be born into this world.
    All of the enemy vampires were created artificially, and they all resorted to the transformation for power or eternal life. They hadn’t known hell during their childhood like Vlad or Seras Victoria, which is why Alucard resents them all so much. They didn’t endure something to push them to this point, like he did. He’s not a 20-30yr something who wants to brag about being a vampire, like any of Millenium’s experiments (The Valentine Brothers, The Dandyman, or Rip Van Winkle). He’s a broken soul who 500 years ago was taken advantage of as a child, and had no one to turn to or save him from a literal hell. He turns to darkness at his lowest point, and it’s now something he partially regrets, cuz he can’t really die now. Immortality is only as good a fate as watching all your friends and family around you grow old and die. If he did form any meaningful relationships over 500 years, he had to watch them all die, only to still remember all the pain he knew as Vlad III. Seras is the only vampire Alucard sired himself, because he saw that she had the will to live. After the crime against her parents, she became a police officer, and when she was held captive by a priest who’d became an artificial vampire, Alucard found them. He made sure that her blood hadn’t been tainted by the faux vampire, shot her, and gave her the choice of to die a human or live the rest of her days as a vampire. Because she resolved to keep living-even in spite of all the horrid shit that had happened to her-he granted her wish, and she became a vampire with the same potential to become a true, full-fledged one later on. She completed said contract with the dark side, when she consumed Pip’s blood in Episode 7, thus healing her otherwise mortal wounds (severed left arm, eviscerated torso, eyes), the same way Alucard was reborn from Vlad, after his head was decapitated during the execution.

Alucard’s tragedy is another tally for people who’re dealt a bad hand, and antagonized for finally snapping after enduring far more than anyone should have to. His tragedy is a warning to not let ourselves become consumed by the evils we’re faced with, and to not let ourselves become monsters in turn. There’s far too many already, and we owe it to ourselves and others to break the cycle or prevent more from being created.
