Imagine being the guy who handed Layton the RNG weight puzzle and, from your point of view, he just instantly hands you back one of the weights and says "this is the one" without touching the scale at all. What are you supposed to do? Just trust him? can you even argue with Layon? what a power move.
And when you tell them they’re wrong they reset reality
I mean how are they even meant to know it’s wrong? Check? At that point just do it yourself.
The NPC probably checks for you, since they likely know what the true weight of the lighter weight is... Probably in real life the weights have their intended weight listed, let's say one pound, and one of them happens to have had an air bubble inside when it was being made, making it .9 pounds.

This is simultaneously the lamest and most intriguing challenge run I’ve ever seen.
I always try to catch Gamechamp’s twitch streams and I did for this one. It was dreadfully boring, I must say.

I thought the same thing about some Princess Maker challenges I came across was genuinely surprised at how interesting they are.

What's so interesting about this run is that there'e very little difficulty in execution but it's a very complex challenge in terms of routing, which is the opposite of plenty of runs on this channel
The biggest execution challenge is getting the game to recognize your handwriting, and even that's arguably a routing challenge (just routing your penstrokes rather than your puzzles).
It feels just like an amazingly intricate puzzle, that's the best part of it, it's very in character

If you think this is great, check out Sideways, his include people having a conversation about ice cream addicts anonymous. The mulan 2020 one was extra great, but there were some fun new additions in the Into the Woods video, even if you just go look at the end of the video for names (but like he uses pop culture to talk about music theory and I sound smart and interesting now that I learned about leitmotifs via Zelda examples it's worth a real watch)

I decided to watch this in 144p due to the quality disclaimer. It didn't change much. Must be very high quality content.
Getting hand-drawn animated cutscene's into a 32MB cartridge with also all the game logics, 2D and 3D assets and tons of voice acting is no easy feat.

@@Gamechamp3000 I think there's some interesting points to be made about sliding block puzzles in the future games, since at least one of the other games (Lost Future, I think) has one or two required ones
@@natashaeliot3628 I can't really think of an Ace Attorney run, as unlike Layton which is rather open-ended, Ace Attorney always has one solution that requires you investigate, press, or present specific things, with no way to progress until you do those specific things, so there's basically 0 room for a challenge run.

You know I was kind of expecting her to pull out some crazy speed run glitch or progress skip glitch, but no she just did a bunch of math and a bit of cursive. Still and insane feat.
Not many channels take more than three solid minutes to read the patreon backers. But seeing the Cowboy Bebop theme on there makes me inordinately happy.
Sorry pannenkoek, a tap is a tap, you can’t do half.
Technically there are half-taps; a tap has 3 parts like an A-press, with the initial tap, holding the tap down, and releasing from the touch screen. What Layton DOESN'T have is a way to actually store taps in a way that matters as you generally get reactions either on the precise moment you tap or the precise moment you release on mouse/touch screen games--and half A-press tech usually involves the part where it is actively being held, which is inbetween those two.

@@camwoodstock if we wanted to do half-tap nonsense we would need one part where we need to only press the tap and not release it(don't know where) and another part that wants a release not a press(also don't know)
@@camwoodstock the half-taps aren't exactly just the parts being broken. It's shorthand for "this tap starts in one segment and ends in the next" because he was routing segments for a full theoretical run (so if he counted both or neither as a full tap, the total count would be off by 1. He decided to call them half taps to not favour either segment)

Thank you for doing a professor Layton game! I'll scream about this series until the day I die. I grew up with it, and it's hard to pinpoint a series that means more to me than this one. I spent hours listening to the music and seeing a new take on a game franchise I already love means a lot. Especially since it feels like no one knows about this series

Ayy Professor Layton! Man this brings back memories of having Pandora’s Box and trying every possible answer when I was stuck. The story is always really good in these games, would definitely recommend!
Pandora's Box ... oh good lord, I'm having PTSD flashbacks of the last trickster puzzle that goes through three different forms. Nothing about it made sense until the last few clicks.
I stopped playing at the cork puzzle after I tried a million times before I finally looked it up and realized you were supposed to put the corks up the guy's nose. Sadly at that point I'd lost my copy of the game...

I learned cursive from a handwriting book back in 2003. That cursive f is how i learned it in the first place, and I didn't even know that having the loop in the front was a valid version for over ten years.

I swear it's how my elementary school teacher taught me! At least, I think it is? Maybe I was drawing them wrong the entire time and the teacher was just like "you're doing it wrong" and I was just like "but it looks like it's supposed to??" and this mystery was never solved

Cursive is weird and, as with linguistics (grammar especially), any prescriptive standards are little more than elitism. I definitely remember learning cursive f's the way Gamechamp initially wrote them, but the optimal way for this run definitely doesn't strike me as unusual.

I haven't played professor layton in years, but I miss it so - just remembered they were developing a new game for the switch, that came out back in 2019, so I might pick that up.
If you have a phone, there are HD remasters of the original DD games on there aswell
honestly I wouldn't go for the switch game, it doesnt have the same charm as the original series. Id try the mobile remasters instead

This is such a cool run, and I remember playing this game as a kid! I could never get passed the “wolves and chicks crossing the river” puzzle myself though
Honestly as always I love all of your videos, you make even what sounds like the most simple and boring of challenges extremely entertaining to watch and listen to. it's a mixture of your voice, the structure of the video and just generally how you put everything together.

Your challenge reminds me of a rpg game for the ds called magical starsign. It is hard to get now but if you can it is a game about 6 students using magic to solve there problems. I have 2 challenges. A: beat the game without using magic. Or B: minimum enemies koed run

Challenge run suggestion: can you beat miitopia without using safe spots (you have to complete the tower of despair to complete the challenge run)
Bonus challenge: you can’t enter levels that are fully completed and don’t lead to a secret level and also if you enter a level that isn’t complete than you have to take the path you didn’t go on(these challenges only apply before entering post game aka you complete the bonus challenge after defeating the darker lord)
