@Beige Frequency still waaay better than Bert "don't leave me Tom" Kriescher. Like Jim was bad but at least he finished on time. On the other hand, holyshit was Bert an awful, unprofessional hack. And his drunk ass fans were somehow worse.
Dude wasnt only not good, he kept going overtime with shitty tangents to a point where there was thousands of people standing out side in the cold as he was just starting his Machine story that somehow kept slightly changing to make himself look better but which kept getting worse and worse. Yea he did that all of the shows he worked and pretty much everysingle one my coworkers were just done with everything by the end of the time he left.

The main thing I can’t stand about all these comedians, actors, broadcasters, etc. is how spineless they are. They flip flop around social and political issues to promote themselves. Not because they believe it or are trying to support anything. I can’t stand hypocrisy either and these people have it on spades.
That's the worst part about being an entertainer; *you* become the brand. Imagine if Hershey's Chocolate was just a guy that walked around and appeared in shows/movies, and all the stockholders' shares were completely determined by his actions and how the public perceives them. Every week or so the brand Hershey's Chocolate appears on television to give an interview for an upcoming candy bar or their opinion on political issues. That's being an entertainer.
Hands up if you remember the Jim Jefferies who had podcast with Eddie Ifft, on which they had a hotdog eating contest where they were forced to gorge themselves on hotdogs while they put up videos and pictures of starving African children on a big screen. The idea that Jim Jefferies became a woke social commentator is hilarious to me.

JJ himself is not the problem, the people who like JJ are the problem. At some form, he acknowledges that, or at least he has done that in the past. So to him, it doesn't matter if the material is stolen or irrelevant; the cashcows will laugh anyway, as he has to do less sweating for the paycheck. A bad joke tells more about the laughing audience, than it tells about the joker.
That is an interesting point. I do wonder what Jim's "fans" look like today. How many are fans from 10+ years ago? Or is it mostly people he's picked up through more recent, safer endeavors? If it's the latter, they're probably just fans of comedy broadly and don't really mind the more milquetoast material.
@@BeigeFrequency Based on your assesment (I personally don't care that much to waste time watching his show) there has to be both. Too big of arena to sell for only either of them, and the jokes themselves are definitely mid-range. Just "edgy" enough to create the illusion of "edgy" but definitely aimed at the average. And he is not there to educate anyone, merely to make them laugh with least effort possible. And most importantly, he doesn't care. That has been his bottom line from the start. He's a jobber joker. always has been, always will be. The key to his work ethic is where you said he could've taken a second-hand joke to a different route to make it at least his, but he didn't even bother to do that.
2:38 This is a very old saying that exists throughout many cultures. I have Reunionese friends who'd say: "La femme c'est comme la crevette, tu gardes le corps tu jettes la tete" which is a rough equivalent. However, if we're talking comedy sets, a similar joke was made by French comedian Dieudonne in his 2009 special "Sandrine". I would be extremely surprised if this was the source of Jefferies' joke considering how obscure French comedy is to Yanks/Roos. It certainly would be the first time Anglos steal Frog material seeing as it's usually the other way around.

i liked legit quite a lot, it had heart. i think the commercial failure of that show broke jim, and since then he's just been playing the game, so that he can get paid and continue - which is understandable.

The prawn thing is the same as a joke made by one of the behind the scenes guys on the Bad Friends podcast, except that guy said shrimp instead. But honestly it’s probably just a generic joke that both of them got from somewhere else.
I watched a Jim Jeffries a few years back at Foxwoods, he’s honestly one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever seen live (and I’ve seen a shitload of comedians.)
With all the prefacing he did for the edgy material, the special should've been named "But seriously now, folks..." or "All jokes aside"
Even better... he could be a genuine person, or just a logically consistent characterization of himself, with his own sense of style that's already known to paying audience members, and then he wouldn't need to warn the lil' babies every two seconds because his reputation would precede him after doing comedy for a few f--king decades already.

Hmm on the bad thing. I can see how men could be judged more for the various ways of covering up baldness, maybe because there is so common for men to go bald and there is a lot of stigma around it.
But actually owning it and go full bald is a lot harsher for women I think. Many of them probably feel like that is not even an option. For men there are also cool role models with masculine associations for bald looks everywhere. Not so for women, and a lot of their beauty standards are centered around hair or at least includes it. It was not that long ago that short hair for a gal means you're probably a "dyke", might still be some of that around.

Its just funny to me that the same person that wants to make jokes about trans people doing gender affirming care "isn't it weird and yucky how trans people mutilate their bodies???? And what about the hormones point and laugh guys" wants to then talk about how bad it is when society makes fun of cis men for doing gender affirming care over baldness (he jokes about how a wig might fly off in the wind but only in that people would see he's bald and he'd be humiliated)
