  • In this next route learning video, we take a Class 365 and drive from Kings Cross to Peterborough on the ECML South add on. Along the way we will be calling at Biggleswade, St Neots, Huntingdon and Peterborough before then driving from Peterborough station to Peterborough Nene Carriage Sidings.
    Apologies for putting 'Train Simulator 2015' in the image for this video, I completely forgot to write 2016 and I'm feeling too lazy to re-render the whole video for that minor error. Besides that, it's more a name change than anything else as nothing significant has changed between TS2015 and TS2016.

    The sidings used to be named the 'wharf' after the wharf that used to be there before it became the carriage sidings. The speed limit is actually 5mph throughout the whole of the sidings and you put the unit on 10 road! :-)

    Glad to have you back! Man this route is stunning with clean frame rate. I can't wait to see other routes with smooth views. I noticed at King's Cross that the 365 was rolling backwards towards the buffers, and I'm assuming you had the brakes on. I found that the 395 also does this when stopped at some stations with full service applied.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  Před 8 lety

      +Joel Stevens Thanks! :) I'm glad to be back too. This route is great now, but it was terrible before. I tried recording this very scenario about six months ago and gave up because the performance was so bad! Indeed, you are describing a bug which has been there since the Rail Simulator days. Most trains roll back even with the brakes on full, and sometimes it's easier to notice than others. The Class 395 is one of the worst cases of the rollback bug lol.

      +PTGRail I can relate with performance issues on this route. There's a few scenarios where it rains and I just can't bare to sit through massive lag. It is great to see this route in near maxed out settings.

      @PTGRail  Před 8 lety +3

      +Rafał Czarnocki (skinnyraf) thank you! :) it depends on the route and how familiar with it I am in real life, as well as the number of stops and speed changes on the journey. It can take anything from 2 to 12 hours of practice. Even then, I still make mistakes at times and re record sections of video. I start with a scenario I like or create my own :)

There is a scenario I have made using the Class 170 from Carlisle to Dumfries in the Steam Workshop if you wanted to try it out. I have used the Alstom Pendolino reskin for AI traffic so if you cannot find that reskin, feel free to edit it out with TS Tools. I'm so glad I'm not the only one with problems on this route regarding the stuttering causing dips in FPS. I thought it was my PC. I do like travelling on this route but its pretty awful in terms of optimisation. For me, the problem is tile loading in front of me. Getting out of Kings Cross and Finsbury are the worst hit areas for performance.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  Před 8 lety

    Ar around the 16-17 minute mark you mention that you will be doing a video of the GER Liverpool Street to Shenfield route using the Class 315s, that will be great.. As of June 2015 the Metro route as it was called or the slow service, was taken over by TFL Crossrail. Whilst the 315s are still in service, in 2017 they will all be replaced by new trains, class still to be announced, to operate on the Liverpool Street to Shenfield service until the construction under London is complete when they will run all the way to Heathrow and Reading. Abellio Greater Anglia will still operating it's other services to Southend, Ipswich, Norwich and Harwich on the parallel track to Shenfield. Look forward to seeing you do those various routes as well as the other services out of Liverpool Street to Cambridge, Stansted Airport and the other destinations.

    I am brand new to train Simulation. I have Trainz Driver 2016 which includes the ECML Edinburgh to Kings Cross, but this simulation seems a better (more life, moving people, more trains) so the point is do you have to purchase each route separately or can you build on the existing game? I am going now to purchase Train Simulator 2016 and follow along on this video which was awesome by the way. Thanks for any relevant information that maybe forthcoming. Oh would you recommend the Steam Edition or the Standard?

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  Před 8 lety

      +:Clive-Albert :Dodd Having played Trainz myself, I always struggled to get into it. I think the Train Simulator series is the best train simulation currently available on PC, though it does have its flaws at times. When you buy the base game, you get several routes and trains. It does include editor tools to make your own content, but I must say the editor tools in Trainz are easier to use. From there, you can then customise your experience by purchasing new routes and trains. I would also recommend getting the Steam edition simply as it has slightly more content than the standard edition.

    • @catmar1944
      @catmar1944 Před 8 lety

      PTGRail Okay I have as I said purchased both sims as they are not that expensive. With my limited experience of them to me it does seem Train Simulator by Dovetail Games (Steam Edition) is much better. I have been following your video's in which you do a great job which really gives me a high bar to reach. Do I understand that I can buy 3rd Party routes not just routes through Steam and install them? or do I have to buy and install through Steam which I do not really understand in much the same way as Trains!
      Questions, questions, questions, sorry not to worry if you have not got the time to answer I understand me being a bit lazy and being old in the tooth (72) harder to grasps new things but I need a good distraction and this seems to fit the bill at the moment. Thanks and regards.

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  Před 8 lety

      :Clive-Albert :Dodd Great! I hope that you enjoy playing Train Simulator. You can indeed purchase 3rd party routes and trains from outside of Steam and install them. Just Trains and Armstrong Powerhouse are two of the larger 3rd party content providers. That being said, the majority of trains and routes are on Steam so will need to be purchased there. :)

      1. Thanks!
      2. Because it's more realistic, and the answer to this also links in to your third question. Driving without the HUD is much more realistic and involved. Real train drivers have to learn their routes so they know what is coming up. They don't have the HUD to rely on. I've tried to reproduce this in these videos, and the purpose of these videos is to help those who are interested to drive in the game without the HUD. As there is no HUD, I have to stay inside the cab to keep an eye on the speed, listen out for safety system alarms and keep an eye on the track ahead of me so I know where I am at all times :)

      @kristdg Před 7 lety

      You need to mute the game itself :) and he slows down with guessing, when you're about a mile away you may wanna start slowing down slowly, and then when you get to 0.20 miles away you need to go slower until whole train is available to board, kinda confusing but that's what I'm guessing by watching these..

The only two Great Northern Peterborough services I know are the stopping service(Finsbury Park, Potters Bar, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City, Welwyn North, Knebworth, Stevenage, Hitchin, Arlesey, Biggleswade, Sandy, St Neots, Huntingdon and Peterborough) and the fast service(Finsbury Park, Stevenage, Hitchin, Biggleswade, St Neots, Huntingdon and Peterborough).
