  • Hello again, today we join 365516 and 365524 on 1P46 from London Kings Cross to Peterborough on the 17th of November 2020. This is most likely my last ever 365 journey before they are fully withdrawn. R.I.P GN Class 365s.

    One of the best ever trains in the UK!
    (Alongside the class 395 and 800 series in my opinion)

      Yeah I honestly agree, they’re such amazing trains. They’re way more comfortable than the 387s and 700s (which have the ironing board seats) and they’re just way better in general. Such a shame they’re slowly putting them out of service, in my opinion they still have quite a lot of life left in them!

      @@DanielGNTrains The Class 700 is a total failure. Pre lockdown I had to commute on them often which meant myself suffering those ironing board seats RIP

      The 387 is good, but again, like the 700 and 377/6s and 377/7s, they also have uncomfortable seats.

    • @DanielGNTrains
      @DanielGNTrains  Před 3 lety

      @@gabrielstravels Yeah the 700 is basically a metal box with seats in it... no tables, really uncomfortable seats, always smells like plastic, they just look ugly in general. The 387 is alright but one problem is the ironing board seats. I honestly do not get why train companies think that ironing board seats are comfortable 🤷‍♂️ I had to commute on them a while ago and hated every second of it, that’s what happens when you buy foreign trains...

      @@DanielGNTrains yeah I agree. The only think I like about the class 700 is the sound and the acceleration. That's it.

    I think closing the window would allow for better audibility of traction, I've noticed the 365s were quieter than the 465s at higher speeds the motors screamed a bit louder than 365s, the 365s were designed in such a way where only the GTO is really audible then it fades away but the main motor sound isnt really hearable unless you listen hard and close the window for better sound , the motor is audible but is hard to hear

    • @DanielGNTrains
      @DanielGNTrains  Před rokem

      I'm pretty sure all windows were closed but I can't really remember since it was quite long ago. I think the reason the motor is hard to hear in this one is because I sat in the wrong 'area', if I would've sat a tad bit more upfront right next to the rear doors it would've been way louder. Doesn't really matter now since they don't exist anymore sadly

      @@DanielGNTrains oh true you may have sat in the middle section beyond the doors , I have a channel myself , I always sit above the bogies, generally, closing the windows and sitting above the motors is likely the way to go on the 365s but yes...sadly they are gone 😭😭

      @@DanielGNTrains yeah, I think possibly one of the best combos actually , may be to open a window behind you, and close the rest that way the wind isn't blowing directly in the camera and blacking out the motor sound , ooooor the windows on the opposite seats, I try to do this with the 466s All the time "since 465/9s aren't as common anymore around London and the /2s are gone to storage 😬😬 but 365s were cool, RIP.

    But why would Great Northern decided to get rid of them. They were the most reliable trains used on the Great Northern network and were very much useful on London Kings Cross to Kings Lynn, Peterborough and Cambridge. Very sad that these have disappeared. :(

    Southeastern or southern should honestly consider taking these as extra capacity. Sure theyd likely need to put shoe gear on them but still. It's a waste to just push them out of service

      Ikr? It's honestly such a waste, they aren't even that old yet. GN has about 4 of these in service now which is such a shame, I honestly rather prefer these than the class 387s (which have the painful ironing board seats).

      Ikr, I'm a big fan of the Class 365s. They should use them on newly electrified routes around the country ideally whenever that's possible, rather then scrap them which would be a waste of money for trains that are only 20-25 years old.
