  • Every murder mystery story needs someone to take one for the team to establish a tone, but Danganronpa does this in the most shocking way possible. How? Come watch and find out.
    Danganronpa is one of the most famous visual novel series of all time for its strange characters and perplexing murder mysteries, all wrapped in a ludicrous narrative.
    The premise is simple: you're stuck inside of a location with 15 other people, and you have to kill someone to get out. The only catch is that you can't be caught doing it, or else you're executed as punishment. There are several of these executions in the franchise, but which one is the most shocking?
    My name is Peter, and I cover strange and interesting video games every single week. Join me in my journey to talk you ear off about every single one!

    There is a reason as to why Leon's is so oddly brutal even in comparison.
    Originally Danganronpa was a game known as 'Distrust' a somehow even DARKER game, it was meant to have branching paths based on who you did or did not trust.
    Leon's execution is the only one that carried over from that game, which is why the blood is dark red instead of hot pink and how oddly brutal it is.
    It's also the same reason the first classroom you wake up in has dark blood on it.

      I love the first Danganronpa game, but Distrust sounds so insane that I'm still a little sad we never got it. Distrust could easily get a video all to itself. The branching paths alone sounds so insane

      @@heypeterRealMakes me wonder if the community around the series would be different if Distrust wasn't censored and changed into what we got today. Also it sounds way darker, like the first Postal game or Manhunt.

    Gonta’s death was the worst one for me. To watch my sweet boy be impaled and set on fire was horrific.

    I think whats even worse is that leon didnt even LIKE baseball. he wantes to be a musician, but was forced into baseball just because he was born naturally talented at it. so to be forever remembered as the guy who died to baseballs? thats gotta be the worst

    • @ebagentj
      @ebagentj Před 2 měsíci

      If you do his character/relationship route, he drops hints that he secretly does like/miss playing baseball. Makoto even points it out in his inner monologue.

    I think the darkest is Kyoko’s in the first game.
    Because with Makoto and him being lucky, he manages to escape from that. But for Kyoko…nobody is coming to save her despite being innocent. It’s dark and grim given how it ends up for Makoto.
    Another dark one is Kaede’s given she was also innocent as well, the dark ones have to be the ones that happen to the people who are innocent

    • @tech6hutch
      @tech6hutch Před 6 měsíci +1

      Well, Kaede is innocent in a general sense, but guilty in the twisted logic of the killing game
      Edit: Aw heck, I saw another comment that implies we learn something else later in the game. Please don’t correct me I don’t wanna be spoiled lol

    What a coincidence that you posted this. I literally finished SDR2 like 2 days ago, still working to 100% it, I've clocked in like 140 hours in the series at this point. Desperately trying to avoid spoilers since I have like another 300 hours to go with DRAE and V3 (which don't seem as well recieved)
    Honestly, it's not too strange they kept Leon/Kazuo's execution despite it being so dark since I don't think their budget was that big at the time. Definitely just a leftover as evident by the red blood but it's still rather tame compared to the original ideas for DISTRUST's executions.

      I've been replaying 2 recently, which inspired me to make this video. Ultra Despair Girls is a clunky psp shooter with a mediocre story IMO, and v3 is just...really not something I enjoyed much.

      Leon's execution definitely made a huge impact on how most first views on DR would be viewed and I love it for that alone
      Also hope you 100% DR2 (love that game btw) & have fun with the rest of the series

    Fun fact: The reason Sayaka and Leon are the first die is because, as you said, they were two of the first characters designed. However, they became the templates for the female and male characters respectively, so they artist had to look at them a lot and stated he was sick of looking at them.
    In the demo of the game and one of the manga, the first case actually has Hiro killing Hifumi. (The demo doesn't show the execution, but the sequence is in the manga, and Hiro is one of the few non-murderer characters to get a described execution sequence by the devs.)

    Leon's death cutscene reminds me a lot of the 2D cutscenes in Alice Madness Returns, with its gritty, unsettling visuals, janky movements and fish-eye lens. I feel like the other death cutscenes in DR don’t have that same feel to them.

  • @destro8679

    Awesome video! Personally, i believe that one of the darkest execution’s would be kaede’s, as it is just insane what happens, and with the context with what we find out later, it makes it so much more painful and worse. But that’s in my opinion. Great job with the video, keep up the good work!

    A fan of Blazblue AND Danganronpa? Are you sure you're not an alternate timeline version of me or my friend? But yeah, 11037's execution (he did nothing wrong BTW) was unmatched in sheer horror and brutality until Kaede's execution in V3.

    • @heypeterReal
      @heypeterReal  Před 9 měsíci +8

      What can I say? Great minds think alike.
      V3 executions are deliciously cruel, but they're definitely a lot more fantastical. Kaede being hung and played over a giant piano, compared to some guy being bludgeoned to death with blunt objects.

    Never thought I’d see someone who’s a huge fan of Batman, Blazblue, and Danganronpa all at once like I am.
    My favorite execution is a tie between this one and V3-1. V3’s first execution was brutal and just so heartbreaking. Since I managed to avoid spoilers before playing, that made it hit even harder cause it was so unexpected. I also am a big fan of Peko (for how emotional it was and the stylistic visuals), Korekiyo (for being so downright brutal and mean lol), and Celeste’s (for how it ties into her character) executions
    Mikan’s execution is my least favorite. So underwhelming and confusing.

      Tbf mikan's execution represent her overdose which not good enough to explain why is it so goofy.

    My name gives away part of the reason, but my god that case was so unsatisfying lol.

    I love Danganronpa and I too have mixed feelings about V3, It is the perfecto ending to the series and I really hope the devs keep their word and don't make another Danganronpa, otherwise they would make V3 meaningless and piss off people even more.
    The best they can do is create new IPs with similar themes (death games and mystery). Also I miss Zero Escape, we really need new IPs.
    And about the executions I'm unsure, I played the games forever ago and I only remember a few of them, but the one I remember clear as day is Celestia's.
    I didn't know about Distrust so now here I'm hoping the máster mind comes out with a banger IP with more artistic freedom.

    • @seanmarley3598

      pretty much example of not every game have good ending heck writers of danganronpa really wanted to make danganronpa community cry by killing their favorite character.
