    I believe a definitive and true batman physically cannot kill, Batman is still a man, one named Bruce, who was a boy, who endured such an ungodly action, a boy who witnessed the murder of his parents, his only family. He wears the cowl to ensure no little boy or girl has to feel the pain he feels every day of his life. Does he want to murder the Joker? Absolutely, but does he? No, because every chance he has to take his life Bruce just can't because he is terrified to become the man who took the life of Martha and Thomas. Batman is compelling not because he is "dark and brooding" but because villians see him as a monster, Bruce is terrified of becoming a monster. Bruce is flawed, sometimes ignorant, abusive, bias even. But he is a good man, his pain did not mutate him into the scum on the streets, but a beacon, one of hope. Batman can not save everyone, he knows this, he disciplines himself for it, keeping counts and names of everyone Gotham has loss to his rogues, but Bruce will save anyone he can, always hopefully believing even the worst of people; the criminally insane, can change for the better. The Batman, Bruce, is a good man. And that is why he is my favorite superhero.

      @RiffArcade Thank you! Superheros, whether DC or Marvel, have always been a huge part of my life, I love these compelling characters that always strive to do the right thing. I think it is best said that a hero does the right thing for the benefit of others even if an action may not be fully just, an anti-hero resorts to the morally wrong things for right reasons or only does good for self benefit without exact malevolents towards innocence. I still love these characters, the Gaurdians of the Galaxy among my favorites, technically anti-hero to hero stories. Deeply conflicted people who resorted to thievery and abductions only to become the heroes, guardians, of the Galaxy! Punisher is another great anti-hero, violent, dark, merciless, but deeply intriguing. But my heart breaks when I watch Clark kill Zod, Bruce gun down goons, Peter Parker murder his rogues, these are good people, they are by every mean a Superhero. Because to me, a Superhero is not defined by their powers but their mental capacity to always and only do what they truly believe and know to be right through all their pain, because it is simply the right thing.

    I find purely relying on one philosophy to define life to be pretty crazy.
    I mean, just take a look at all of the stories in the world, heck, look at the concept of multiple small and incredibly different and interconnected worlds like The Backrooms or Infinity Train or Undertale's multiple AUs.
    They can each change so radically that it drives the person with one philosophy to the brink of insanity. I knew I was nearly turned crazy by my mostly apathetic and neglectful school and my kind and caring parents. Constantly having to shift between multiple environments every single day of nearly every single hour, it's crazy, let me tell you. Felt like going through parallel universes to me.
    So therefore, the only absolute in this world is the reality in one room, and the reality that will come when you pass through a door, when you drive out of your parking lot, when you sit down into a studio or an office, and what happens then, before, and after.

    The Code he lives by and so does the justice league too isnt always easy as Bruce questions why he lets them go and be put away only for them to escape again and again and also kill again. Hes a man of morals for sure as he cares for kids teenagers and even monsters like the Joker himself as he has saved him a few times in the comics too.These 2 have had almost a century long rivalry that does not seem to end. U could say the same about Sonic and Dr Eggman And Mario And Bowser.
    Batman is meant to represent what happens when you go over the edge and your morals of doing the right thing. Jason Todd one of the former Robins has always questioned Bruce on why he dosent just end his Villians already. It simple cuz in Bruces messed up mind he knows or thinks these people can change and get thier lives and happiness back again.

    I am aware of these two and their shortcomings. It is why I think a lot of it has to be situational. I think it comes down to certain things that are clear in most circumstances falling under the imperative, like killing. However, during wartime, that ethical philosophy is impossible to follow, at which utilitarianism is the only way to proceed. After all, people are going to be killed no matter what in a worry, so the ethical thing to do is minimize the quantity of harm as much as possible.

    To be blunt the STATE should kill Joker, not Batman. Batman's rigid code and adherence to it has given a valuable working relationship with the authorities, and it doesn't work towards the world he envisions along with his personality morality to start commiting vigilante murder.
    The state however when given a violent and extremely dangerous terrorist of the worst order, should be hanged from the nearest gallows.

    If we're talking about the Batman franchise as a whole... even if Batman decided to kill the Joker for good, I doubt he actually could. The Joker keeps coming back, and of course that's mainly because he's so popular that the writers would never seriously consider offing him for good. But in-universe, I like to think there's something supernatural going on with him. I see the Joker as the Satan figure of Batman's world. He will do ANYTHING to drag Batman or other people down to his level. I'm not saying he's a literal demon, I just like to think that maybe he has JUST enough power to survive impossible situations. I think he's someone who can't die as long as there is evil in the world.
    However, the various ways that the Joker dies in certain stories are very interesting. My favorite deaths are the ones he brings on himself, like in the Arkham series, where he is poisoned by the Titan serum he used on himself.

      @RiffArcade  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Oooh, this is a very interesting take. I like the supernatural spin. Definitely some applicable symbolism going on here. Thanks for watching!

    batman doesn’t really have the right to kill the joker himself because that would just be murder, but if he was put on trial and deemed unfit for society and a danger to society as well as that if he escapes, he will keep killing over and over again, then he can get the death penalty and rot in hell

    I agree with some points your making in this video say for one. I wouldn't define Killing the joker under Utilitarianism. It has similar ideas and themese behind it however the biggest flaw with that mind set is that within utilitarianism like you said it doesn't involve justice into the equation. Just base greater happiness. But my thought process is say if theres a greater number of serial killers in Gotham than normal folk technically Utilitarianism says the Serial killers are right. But in my eyes and many others thats a completely disjointed world view. I think the normal folk should still take precedence over the immoral majority. If the minute ratio being Joker receives Joy from inflicting suffering I say that is a pretty fair justification and doesn't mean you completely agree with Utilitarianism life style. For example i agree that Batman should killer joker if he continually gets out and never betters himself but i also don't agree with the example of the fried chicken and pizza example. If the pizza person was allergic I'd find and alternative so everyone has a base level of happiness.
    I also could have just wrote this whole thing and misunderstood and you meant you only fell under one side for this specific question. Those are just my thoughts though

    As a deontologist I believe killing the Joker is objectively justified. A murderer presupposes naturally that murder is justified, therefore, they could not logically argue they should not be killed. However, from a meta-perspective, Batman should not kill the Joker.
