@@SurprisedBigWaterfall-wn1pv Petty means to be overly concerned with small or trivial matters. Name a time when the Gods have been overly concerned with small or trivial matters
@@SurprisedBigWaterfall-wn1pv Arachne was being impious and was showing blatant disrespect to Athena. That's not trivial. Neither is being cheated on. Now, the thing about all of these stories is that they are actually metaphorical and are meant to teach religious mysteries. They're not actually reflective of what the Gods are like. These stories would have made more sense in their ritual contexts. For instance, Hera's antagonism of Herakles ultimately leads to His apotheosis. There's a divine mystery behind that
Ovid's Medusa story is heartbreaking :'( she devoted herself to the godess yet she was exiled and doomed to a miserable existence, through no fault of her own. RIP.
For the Medusa stories, I read from a comment from a video that as Athena is full of Wisdom she makes crazy plans, actions, etc that SEEMS CRAZY OR UNFAIR in our perspective but to Athena’s Perspective it was a wise decision. Like how we don’t understand things til much later. Hope it sums it up and maybe see some opinions etc. (It was a while ago so it’s not as vivid as. I remember)
The Medusa stories where she was turned into a monster were created by a Roman poet who was criticizing authority by making the gods look bad. Originally Medusa was always a monster.
0:00 The story of birth to Athena from very beginning. Athena finally grow up without her mother. 3:58 Poseidon and Athena to claim City of Attica will be renamed. Their vote of Council of Gods of Olympus Athena win and all citizen of Attica to be known as City of Athens. 8:42 Athena meet Arachne. 13:17 Hephaestus and Athena had a son's name Erichthonius with strange the tale of a serpent. Athena raised him in the Temple and finally grow up in Temple of Athens. 16:31 Athena meet Medusa. Now that was impressive from very beginning story of Athena The Strange Myths of the Goddess of Wisdom in Greek Mythology history.
Another version of the Arachne story is that she offended the gods so, Athena turned her into a spider, so that she will weave beautiful spider webs that will be wiped away by people. Meaning they won't matter. And Arachnophobia is a fear of spiders.
So basically fate can be averted. Normally when you hear a prophecy it comes true by you trying to prevent it, yet the opposite happened when Zues tried to stop it. Though I am surprised Athena never tried to free her mother.
What’s sad is, there’s a myth where when a man assaulted one of her priestesses, she was so angered that she threatened to sink all the Greek ships unless he was killed, but since Poseidon was much powerful then her, she had no choice but to blame the victim instead, same with Hera having to get revenge on Zeus’s partners, rather than him.
I heavily dislike how much the Ovid version of the stories are the most repeated nowadays. Especially considering they don't even make sense most of the times.
Yeah I’m not a huge fan of ovids versions of mythology, it often makes many of the most revered gods look horrible, in the story of Athena’s birth I know Zeus and Métis were in love and planned to marry before he even won the war then after winning and zeus hearing the prophecy they were playing a game together and she turned into a fly to try to win and he ate her to prevent the prophecy then later after Athena came out of zeus Métis decided to stay inside of him to keep him forever wise and to always be a good king. In the true stories there always mysteries to be contemplated while in ovids the only point is “gods are cruellll”
I don’t think I’ve heard this version of Métis’s story. I’m more familiar with the version where she helped Zeus with her father to free the other gods, then they fell in love. The rest is the same. He drank her and gained her wisdom, then Athena was freed from Zeus’s head by Prometheus.
This is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone say it was Prometheus that hit his head with an ax. Every other classicist I’ve heard said it was Hephaestus.
And that was Athena way of saying in case anyone didn't know I made Medusa a warrior goddess like Zeus made Hercules a god at least now we know where Medusa went she went to fight in Troy as a resurrected goddess of war
I consider stories from Ovid as Roman mythology, because Ovid was a roman poet, and his characterization of the Gods This includes Athena and The weaver. And Athena and Medusa
The story about Zeus and Medis was way off in this video. Medis was sought after by all the male gods, not just Zeus, and she didn't "run" like crazy to get away from him. It wasn't Gaia that told him about the son that would overthrow him, it was the fates that told him. He married Medis off to a mortal man and they produced Achilles, whom she dipped in the river Styx holding him by his heal to make him invulnerable.
❤Thank you for celebrating Athena, the goddess of Wisdom.❤ However I think she was chosen by the Athenians because she brought an Olive tree, the tree of Peace, from Lybia, while Poseidon brought a wonderful white horse from the sea.
@@user-sc9dv5ni7cwell Greek gods mostly. I’ve read some mythology that shows some gods truly loving and staying loyal to the mortals they fall for. Like the Cowhearder and weaver girl, ChenXiang’s parents from the Magic Lotus lantern. Lots of people have different ideas of what their gods/superheroes should be
Idk why but before I learned who Athena was I had a dream of her. She appeared to me in a time where I was really lost and looking for guidance in my career path. I was given a message and she appeared in a gold coin. A voice told me to look to ATHENA for guidance
@@wildmen5025 I’m still at odds with it because I thought she’s a myth? But it’s crazy because I did not know who she was prior to my dream. But my dream was so vivid. Someone was talking to me and telling me to seek out ATHENA. Her name appeared so bold and I saw her in a gold coin. So I purchased her necklace from AWE. I love who she is and what she represents. We’re very similar in ways. It’s pretty crazy. I’m very intrigued now. 💫 🦉 🗡️
I patiently anticipated Kratos, from God of War, to advance the storyline by defeating Zeus and rescuing the oppressed Mettis. Truth is .. in the game, witnessing Athena's demise, who has disregarded her mother, now holds a greater sense of gratification. Truth is .... Kratos' actions can be seen as a boon to mankind. Kudos Kratos unfortunately , it is not real or part of the mythology.
How do you know Metis is oppressed? Have you considered that She might feel that She is actually in a great position to do some good? Who needs wisdom more than the leader of the universe?
On the other version i read way back was better and shows real Wiseness as a Goddess off wisdom so heres the other version i read 1.) ARACHNE-Athena Ripped of Arachnes art to save her from the wrath of zeus and turn her into a spider instead so she will still be able to do what She loves (weaving) 2.)MEDUSA- after the incident of Poseidons violation of medusa Athena gave medusa a curse that will protect her from being violated again so no man will ever Harm Her again.
These comment actually make sense, given that Athena is the most just among the Gods and Goddesses. I can somewhat understand the Roman versions though, Zeus having affairs with other women and doing things in a prideful paternal image tend to make Athena seem more like her father. As the saying goes, "Like father like son/daughter". We can't also deny what Kronos and Zeus did to their children so it seem, these Greek Gods are always behaving like normal humans and not judging things in the most radical way
@markmagno1488 i know, cause the Roman Counter Part of Athena (Minerva) who story is less passionate and kind towards people always gets mixed up on athena. I mean in roman version of Archane (she is Jealous of archane and hate archanes art cause of blasphem agaisnt olympus) but its most likely jealous same with Medusa, and that is not so much of a wise Goddess so i prefer ATHENA OF GREECE than MINERVA of ROME
If the story will be based on the known characteristics of each God and Goddess of Greek Myth, I can see why Athena made Arachne like that. As the Goddess of Wisdom, she fully knows her father might punish Arachne in the most dreadful way because what she did was clearly rude and blasphemous to the Supreme Deity. As for Medusa, given that her sisters are initially Gorgons, then she is possibly Gorgon as well based on the original myth. Having Perseus killed her and Athena placing the head into the shield is absolutely logical, her head can be used as weapon to protect against invaders without hurting them as Athena is also a Goddess of righteous and defensive warfare
Competing with Aphrodite and Hera for the most beautiful prize. Competing with Arachne in weaving only to curse her. Cursing medusa for not being able to resist a God's advances. Hard to see the wisdom.
Zeus ate the titan of wisdom and became "LeSs IMpUlSiVE". If you've had any experience with the rest of greek mythology, this should tell you that NONE of these gods were wise.

You know the type of person he is. Whatever he wants, he gets. He is also willing to cross many lines just to get what he wants🙄. Any woman he sees, married or single, he is willing to go that far to have her. I hate Zeus.
