  • Andrew Marr speaks to Shelagh Fogarty after the Scottish Parliament's 'biggest crisis', following Humza Yousaf's resignation.
Mr Yousaf will stay on as first minister while an SNP leadership election takes place, following in similar footsteps to his predecessor Nicola Sturgeon.
The first minister U-turned after previously saying he would not resign and instead intended to win two confidence votes.
It comes after a breakdown of the SNP's power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens on Thursday.
The first minister said at the time that the agreement had “served its purpose" and was "no longer guaranteeing a stable arrangement in parliament".

If anything, perhaps Scotland needs to undergo a period of political turmoil with a non-SNP Scottish Government. Scotland has a lot more devolved powers than Wales or Northern Ireland and they are to all intents and purposes already semi-independent in perception, if not also in fact. The Scottish electorate need to be reminded what it is to be part of the union and that will mean more experiences of Scotland being trodden on and deals made that are bad for the country. Such a period would likely see a surge in support for Scottish independence that next time, will guarantee their success at the polls.

Scotland has no king, the last one died centuries ago... and we need no replacement. As for the UK, go ask the North of England how they feel about Westminster control and mismanagement. Scotland was given away in an arranged marriage. Maybe you can't comprehend what that means, but it was immoral in 1707 and is even more so now.
