- Humza Yousaf has announced his resignation as Scotland’s First Minister ahead of forthcoming confidence votes.
Mr Yousaf had been battling for his political survival after terminating the powersharing deal between the SNP and Scottish Greens on Thursday.
He was facing a vote of no confidence, tabled by the Scottish Conservatives, while Scottish Labour had tabled one of no confidence in the Scottish Government as a whole, with both expected to take place this week.

The two positions are linked one in the same. Legislation states that the First minister must be the leader of the party in rule. If he resigned as party leader then by default he resigns from First minister position too.

He is still in office as First Minister. His "resignation" statement said he was standing down as SNP leader and we don't know how long they will take to replace him or what will happen in the meantime or even after that. But he has pre-empted a vote of no confidence.
