  • Families are being urged to stockpile three days' worth of tinned food, water and batteries.
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has unveiled a new website aimed at helping households deal with potential risks, including flooding and power outages to bio-security crises, like another pandemic.
Retailers are concerned the appeal will lead to panic-buying, like during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Talk’s Ian Collins discusses the warning with survivalist Megan Hine.

It’s just common sense, British aren’t prepared for anything, flood, fire etc. I didn’t realise until I went to stay with family in New Zealand over 20 years ago. When I arrived they showed me where the 72 hour emergency food and water was, the radio, how to turn the gas off and one evening drove me to the local school to show me it, as it was their designated evacuation point in the event of a major earthquake or disaster. No such planning here in the UK. It’s about time we caught up.

I think being prepared to give you a peace of mind is great. But don't be in fear. That's not good for mental health. We are in the peak of solar cycles (we had G5 storm just 2 weeks ago and that's just the start), with government on purpose decreasing energy sources in Western countries, widespread blackouts are almost certain to happen this summer. Without electricity you have no water too. You cannot go to supermarket with your debit card, maybe with cash if you have it already at home. It's good to think about these things ahead.

Did you know John Hopkins university did a study showing the third biggest cause of death in US is BP drugs used as prescribed? Yet there’s no outcry. At the turn of the last century BP, aka Rockefellers, ensured widely used natural and true traditional medicine was outlawed and they made sure all medical schools taught only allopathic medicine. This way a lot of traditional knowledge was lost, healers were even imprisoned. Personally I don’t use drs. We rarely are sick and if we are we use natural remedies usually picked from the garden. We eat well, we use homeopathy, herbs and some supplements. The great thing about modern medicine is emergency care. Other than that the rest can be done naturally when you know how and thank goodness people are learning again.

I’m 25 and have had a emergency bag in my car for about 2 years now. With shelter water purification. Camping stove, food and a roll mat. Just ready to go. Used it when my car got stuck and was waiting around was able to have a warm meal while I was waiting for a tow 👌

No need to stock up on anything. Alarming talk like this is going to deplete shelves in major stores.

I have been doing this every winter for the last 5 years. I also have fuel I can burn in open fire, rechargable battery LED lights that last 8 hours on low power, a wad of cash in a safe because when the electricity system goes down cards won't work for payment. I also have a full gas bottle for a barbecue outside which has a side ring for a pan as well as the usual gridle. I can cook a hot meal for weeks on that. Thermos flasks and tools I have of al kinds. Only thing I don't have is a Leatherman but have 5 ways of making fire.
There is a reason the Govt are telling us to do this. The basic systems are very fragile. The old analogue phone system has also just switched off so nobody will be able to call for help. Mobile phone systems and Wifi stops working. Filling stations will run out of road fuel because the racks that fill the road tankers at the distribution centres have electric pumps and therefore the tankers will not be able to load. Filling stations will have no fuel after a day.
