I was there!! It WAS such a special experience! Really glad I got to see it with other fans and not just on my couch at home (but would definitely watch again on my couch at home). You all deserve every bit of celebration and joy that comes from today!
On the outset, I realize this is a dumb question, but I am going to ask it anyway, seeing you saw the movie: I have yet to read the book. So, should I before seeing the movie? It might be a while.
@@tracylee55 it’s been a bit since I read it, so I don’t remember every detail, but I think the movie is fairly faithful to the book. I think you could really go either order but it’s worth doing both. The advantage of book first is it will let you sit longer with the story being new, vs experiencing it all in 1.5 hours and then going through more slowly. Others might have stronger opinions.
@@TeeganLee the LA Times Festival of Books at University of Southern California! In one of their auditoriums. I didn’t realize there were that many people there though!
I was there and I have to say your outfit looked even better in person! It was indeed a great experience watching, and the (somewhat off the rails) q&a was equally enjoyable
Oh yeah. Goodness the trailer gets me pretty choked up. I had to put that book down and walk away so many times while I was reading it. It's wonderful, but also frequently so very hard.
I was there and I loved it! It was amazing watching it with such an equally excited audience, and I loved all the sublet nerd fighter nods. Can’t wait for everyone else to see it! - the girl who said she wanted to wear the pizzajohn shirt lol
My partner and I had a great time, John. She's been a fan for a very long time and roped me into the Vlogbrothers Family Of Media Products (tm) right before the pandemic hit. As a result, I listened to the audio book en route to LA (we drove in for one day from Las Vegas and just got home) as my first experience with it. I was incredibly satisfied with both the book and movie, so thanks to you and everyone involved who helped both get to their respective finish lines ❤️ Also, as we were shuffling out of the audotorium, I saw you had stepped out from behind the curtain and I shouted "Hey John, I love the socks!" Or something to that effect. 6 hours was a long time ago. Was that Dan Povenmire hanging out back there? Or just someone else that looked REMARKABLY like him? ANYWAY, this got long. Again, thanks John. It was a wonderful day for both of us and I'm ecstatic to hear that it was for you as well. Cheers❤
I was there! Front row seat. It was so fun to be there with such an enthusiastic crowd. The movie is so so good! An excellent adaptation too. Bummed I had to dip out before the panel.
Congrats, John! It sounds like such a great experience, getting to see your book made into a movie by a true fan and someone who (it sounds like) really understood what you were trying to do. It sounds like the dream.
I was there!! Waited for an hour in the standby line hoping to get in and so glad I did 🥲 it was amazing!! Loved the energy in the crowd, laughed a lot and was brought to tears quite a few times too 😭 such a beautiful and important story to tell, I feel like i understand my friend with OCD so much better now 💜
So wild! Stumbled upon looking for alaska at twelve years old & you've been MY favorite author since 😊 I'm a spooky baby turning 30 this year and boy, your words have gotten me through a world of trauma. Pretty rough childhood & I held on tightly at least in part because of certain lines you wrote. I'm just so grateful as a adult to stumble upon your channel 🙏 I'm also OCD. but added spice of ADHD and CPTSD 😅 your channel both makes me laugh, feel human, and fall down the rabbit hole that is tuberculosis 😂 I've already caught myself bringing it up in every day small talk conversation lol please never stop being fully you and I cannot wait to see the new movie, seriously so so so excited!!! 😅 well wishes, friend 😊
Congratulations! I’m excited for you! What happened to the hullabaloo or the AFC suits, though?? The overwhelming votes were for those two suits, so what daheck, John?
The fit drip. Your face also drip. You know on account of the tears bad jokes aside I'm glad you like it I can't imagine being the author of a book that gets a bad film adaptation
this feels like a call with an uncle in the best way possible

SO jealous! And also really excited for you. That must have been amazing.
Where was it? 1,400 seats is a big room!

Awesome!
Should be a theatrical release. But that's just a problem with the industry, specifically Max, as a whole.
Gary Propper would be proud of what the franchise has become, RIP Gary
John youre spazzy. Best wishes.

We're here (because we're here)
O Green bros we love you
this suit is all business
Wait, now we need to know if John Green cries when he writes the damn books that make us all cry rivers. 😮😅
Wait, 1400 people? Thats one large cinema. 😳 That’s 10times the size of the cinema I go to.
Congratulations! I’m excited for you! What happened to the hullabaloo or the AFC suits, though?? The overwhelming votes were for those two suits, so what daheck, John?
WHAT YOU LOOK GREAT JOHN!
Watching may 2nd!
❤
So how do we get to see the movie in Europe?
Unfortunate I can't watch it since you can't get max outside the us. But I'm so happy for everyone involved and I'm sure it's fantastic
What’s the meaning of life.
And you look dapper
I wish he went with the blue and yellow Wimbledon
The fit drip. Your face also drip. You know on account of the tears bad jokes aside I'm glad you like it I can't imagine being the author of a book that gets a bad film adaptation
Is there anywhere else to watch the movie? In Canada we don't get HBO max at all
Where did zhuzh cone from? My mom says it all the time
Silly question are there actually turtles in the book/movie?
How is John‘s cameo?
What happened to the shoes?
