- This is a video review of Hasbro's 1984 vintage generation one Transformers Autobot Prowl! Please join me as I discuss this classic 80's toy and look back at its Diaclone origins.

I can’t tell you how many times my Dad crazy glued the windshield back onto Prowl’s head. So much so, that there was a massive clear glob. Thing keep snapping off. Thanks Dad. RIP.

Same with my Prowl. Jazz too. Except I couldn't bother with Krazy Glue. No amount of scotch tape could keep that thing in place.
Prowl was also my first transformer, i wanted him and no one else. I begged and begged my mom to buy him. I wanted him because he was a cop car and at the time the only one of a few, i knew of that did the waist twist transformation. My biggest regret was i was protending i was devistator fighting prowl a accidently caused his to fly toward a brick wall, breaking his waist. I was bummed for months. And causiquently did get another transformer for almost a year.

My very first Transformer. It was 1984, and my friend gave it to me since it was broken. I did not care. I was AMAZED at the quality, especially the rubber tires. The rubber tires was so awesome to me. The scent of the tires takes me back. What a lovely scent it was. I took it everywhere. My favorite Autobot to this day, of any generation. Just a stunning thing of beauty. I have the knockoff and the reissue. I would LOVE to get my hands on a mint condition 1984 figure (with the Styrofoam insert), but I would need to take out a loan...

I was a later 80s kid, so while I had seen Transformers the Movie, I had seen some episodes of the cartoon, I didn't have a lot of the figures. I had some mini bots, and my parents told me the bigger figures were too expensive, too complicated, and I'd just break them. Massive bummer. But later on in life I lived in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Ohio, and I used to see Prowl driving around. The REAL Prowl. Not just a Nissan S130, but the lights, the logos, it was a full on lifesize G1 Prowl replica. Some guy around there had one and I'd see it drive past my house regularly, I'd see in the little parades they'd have. So when I got into toy collecting and getting toylines I had wanted but didn't have, Prowl became my favorite Transformer. The perfect combination of 80s, Transformers meets Robocop. I love his design so much. I wish I could go back now and get to know the guy who owned that full size Nissan Prowl, it was a tiny village.

I never managed to own G1 Prowl, even though he was one of my favorite characters. A good friend had him when we were kids, but the first time I bought a version was the MP figure, which I love to this day. Thanks for the review, been enjoying these G1 reviews.

Prowl was my first deluxe Transformer. I got him Christmas 1984. I didn’t even get to transform him once when my dad said he’d show me how. He broke the windshield immediately. I will never forget it lol! Still one of my favs. Keep it up man I love it!! 🤖
Nice story! Not the part about it breaking but the memory aspect. I remember some of the old commercials were the adults couldn't transformer them and the kids would have to show them. Thanks for sharing!

Loved Prowl, he got played in the movie though, I wish they dove more into him in the cartoon. He is top 2 Autobots only second to Jazz. I got him in 2002 reissue cause I could never find him elsewhere. Thanks George!

I never had this guy but a cousin did and I do love those legendary "Z cars" *now* owned by Nissan. Cool figure, I'm more of a Bluestreak fan but Prowl gives me a bit of a chuckle these day. I don't think any US police department ever used the Datsun cars for highway patrol, that was only in Japan. Good review!

I never had a G1 Prowl, but I had Opitmus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Twin Twist, and Scrapnel. I reviewed Earthrise Smokescreen and I have to admit Earthrise Prowl is as close to MP for a mainline as you can get. I love watching your vids.

Prowl was my first Transformer too. I remember that whole summer of 1984 you kept hearing about these toys Transformers, they were coming, they were coming and they would be awesome. Gobots were already out at that time and some generic brand cheap transforming toys, I had some of those, but when Transformers came out, they were supposed to be the best.
So one day in September I go with my parents to a Bradlee's department store. Like I always do when I'd go to a store with my parents I go straight to the toy aisle.
And they were there!!! Finally in all their red and orange and purple and black boxed goodness!
This was even a week or two before the cartoon premiered so I didn't know anything about the characters. I just looked at the boxes and Prowl caught my eye. Optimus Prime did too, of course. I had to get the leader of the good guys, but I wanted the police car one too.
So I took both and found my parents and begged and pleaded and I got them.
I opened Prowl first, so that's why he ranks as my first Transformer.
I played with him a lot. Yep, the windshield broke off. Then the back windows. I could still play with him though, he was a convertible now. But then he broke in half. I was so upset. Eventually I got a replacement and in was ecstatic to have a whole one again. I still have that one...But his windshield broke off and his back windows...But he hasn't broken in half!
Wow incredible TRANSFORMERS story! Optimus and Prowl off the back! I had Gobots before I had TRANSFORMERS but they went under the bad after my first TRANSFORMER came home 😆

TRANSFORMERS - THE MOVIE gives with one hand and takes with the other, and sadly it took Prowl from us. But at least Black I.G.A. Prowl lives on! Long live the variants!

I love how you brought up the IGA variant! I know a lot of collectors that don't know about the IGA Transformers. It would be awesome to find an IGA Prowl. I have a IGA Blitzwing and Optimus Prime. Anyways, awesome review!!
Thanks! IGA Optimus Prime is one of the few versions of Optimus I don't own. I just can't get past those eyes 🥴

@@80sTransfromersFan, me too. Hopefully you can eventually add them to your collection. They are rare, but definitely in the realm of possibility. I'm not even sure what they're going for now. But yea, I hope you're eventually able to find them for a decent price and add them to your collection. I'd love to see you do a review of them!
@@zombieman1247 I couldn't purchased IGA Hoist at a local toy show about 3-4 years ago now. The guy wanted $125 for it. But the guy was such a jerk I could deal with him and walked away. Once I got home I regretted it.

Still have my original prowl. His windshield is glued on. The back windows are missing. Most stickers are still intact. He was always one of my favorites
Prowl was my first Transformer. My best friend and the kids in school collected them. I wanted to collect them, too, to join in. No access to the cartoon until I moved to another school the following year. My mom went out and picked one. It just happened to be him. I think she chose it because it’s a police car, something upstanding. I think he comes close to my personality anyway. Everyone seems to favor Bluestreak, but I still think Prowl has more character. My next was Ratchet. Not having seen the cartoon yet, the lack of a head above the windshield didn’t bother me as much.

Just like a lot of commits on this video… Prowl was 1 of my 1st Transformers when I was a kid. Though I didn’t get 1 Transformer when I did get my 1st Transformers. Up to that point… I was a BIG transforming robot fan… owned a lot of Gobots/off brand robots at the time… & I remember seeing an ad for Transformers in some magazine that 1 of my parents got… SO I HAD TO GET 1 AFTER SEEING THAT AD! RIGHT?! The thing that I remember as a kid was my dad was much as a kid as I was, & even though he never played with anything that I owned (except Legos. He liked Legos), he enjoyed watching me play with it as much as I did. Though it killed me, I had to wait 3 weeks until we went out looking for them, & frankly I think that I enjoy the memory of going out looking for them with them just as much (or even more) with him. Never forgot the experience. I forget how many stores that we hit… something like 4-5… & for whatever reason we never got anything at those stores. It might have been the price. Knowing my dad, that was probably the reason why. But we ended up going to Consumers Merchandise (I don’t know if any of guys remember that store or even had heard of it), but I had to wait in the car for 2 hours (because the lines where that long)… but I ended up getting Bumblebee, Prowl, & Jazz as my 1st Transformers in 1 fatal swoop. Hooked ever since. I played with those guys till they were literally turned into pieces. I forgot what happened to my Prowl. He was probably thrown away… but I held onto the other 2 well into my college days & what I ended up doing is finding junkers that had the parts that I needed & restored my old guys back to life. 1 of the things that I’m thinking of toying with & how I stumbled onto this video, is that I’m thinking of scanning various parts on these guys that are hard to come by where there are CAD files that you can use to bring these banged up junkers back to life via 3D printing or something of that nature. Cool vid man!
Awesome awesome toy story! My dad was never a fan of my toy habits as a kid especially Legos and if he ever stepped on one of any of my toys they all went in the trash. But my mom loved my toy fascination and purchased me a new toy every weekend 🤗 Thanks for sharing your story!

We got all the Mexican versions in the UK in 1988. passed up on Prowl, but managed a IGA Astrotrain and a full set of Constructicons - much brighter green than the US versions

I couldn't tell you the 5th Transformer I owned, but I do know that Prowl was my 4th Transformer, and the 2nd Autobot I owned behind Hound. One of my favorites!

I too was devastated when he got shot on the shuttle. Never owned him during the G1 release, but I had Smokescreen and pretended he was Prowl on occasion. I got the Takara Bookstyle rerelease when that was available and am as happy as a clam.
I once owned the Takara bookstyle version along with most of those reissues from Takara. But I never got to opened Prowl or most of the other's because of a financial crisis back in 08-09 they were the first to go.

Joe's my Dragon Ball Z my Jackk's Pacific's WWF/E Classics my Toy Biz Marvel Legends (I had ever variant) my vintage 3.75 Star Wars and 60% of my reissue Transformers. Collection.

I had a purge of my own as well, but it was more because of the lack of space, haha! I had to choose which would stay and which would go and decided on keeping the Takara bookstyle set and Generations CHUG lines.
To be honest, I miss my Berserk collection more than my Toybiz Marvel and Starwars 3 3/4 inch collections... weird.
He was reissued in 1990 as a UK / Europe classics in a gold box. Thats the first reissue with Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Sunstreaker and tons more because the Mexican imports were being sold in value stores. Hasbro Europe were cashing in because of the under the radar imports from South America.

Bluestreak was my first TF, Cliffjumper was my 2nd and I want to say Prowl was my 3rd but I’m not 💯 positive on that. Probably the most perfect G1 Autobot toy (besides Prime, of course). When Prowl got it in the Movie, and I saw all that smoke coming out of his eyes and mouth, I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I knew sh- - was getting real in this movie and I didn’t like it. Still had no idea what was coming for Optimus.

I agree it was crazy just to see the first wave of the auto bots getting killed off by megatron in the transformers move back in 86 its ashame this was Hasbro's way of making room for the next wave of g1 transformers after the movie's debut im m not really a fan of hot rod or rodimus prime but hey it is what it us lol
im 45 and i still recall prowl was my first transformer but also sad cuz my little cousin broke the delicate windshield same day i got it😥

Awesome review!!!!! Where did you get that diorama? This 80's kid and Transformers fan needs one of those. Are you doing 1984 Cons next? I have a repro sticker for Prowls hood. The one that goes over the clear plastic. Do you want it? The South American variant of Prowl is gorgeous. Datsun became Nissan Datsun and then just Nissan. If you say Nissan 280z turbo, I know what you're talking about. Some fans are jerks. The MP box of Blue Bluestreak says NISSAN. That is a late 80's release. I have a Prime with plastic wheels and feet. Even the trailer has plastic wheels. I got it at Botcon 2001. He's mint and complete. No chrome wear and I paid $75 for it. I know it's a legit Prime, but I don't know it's origins.
Bell also voiced Swoop. Prowl looks ok with a black blaster and rockets. I have the Takara reissue from 2002 and the TRU "Silverstreak" reissue. So I swapped out the weapons for visual reasons. I can tell you how to fix his launchers.
I purchased the diorama from Bigbadtoystore.com years ago. Everyone asked about it so much it did a video on it about a month ago now. The name of it is CCC Computer Control Center by I-Gear. Yes the Decepticons are after Optimus Prime. As for the stickers I appreciate the offer but I like it the way it is. And thanks for backing me up on the Nissan Datsun thing! People love correcting giving me a hard time . But I do take all comments in consideration and try improve in each video.
I've got the Takara reissue of G1 Prowl! I generally try to only get Takara G1 Transformers over Hasbro.

... my Prowl reissue has chrome gun and missiles. Looks very much like the original, as far as I can tell.

Good question 🤔 I'm not sure. But I will like to think so, because each vehicle has a specific pilot. And the pilots have at least 4 different molds and multiple colors variations. And now I'm curious and will look into it.
Everyone remembers prowl but I barely remember his voice
Duke was my favorite G.I. Joe as a kid and I recognized the voice immediately when I heard it coming out of Prowl on the first episode!
