    I've gone in three considerable directions in as many days on my next 24-70. I've been gut punched by the (mostly) negative reviews of the 24-70 ART and after finally accepting I went and ordered the Canon 24-70 II but had a change of heart due mostly to the price and now I'm almost completely sold on the Tamron. Many thanks Dustin!

    Great series of reviews Dustin - super useful. I`ve read so many speculative comments by people claiming the G1 and G2 are `optically identical` and the only difference is build quality. Your experience with the G1 and test results with two of the G2s shows this is not the case. Tamron is seriously upping their game . . .

    Dustin, I just finished watching all of your videos comparing these lenses, and I feel much more informed on the pros and cons of each option. Mainly I was focused on the differences between the Sigma and the Tamron G2 because they fit nicely within my budget. Much of my research left more questions than answers, but thanks to your in depth testing, I've decided to pull the trigger and try out the Tamron as an all around lens for my Nikon D750. @@DustinAbbottTWI because of your review, I bought a used lens for this Tamron. Not just this but also the Tamron 70-210 f4 although the latter does have the quirky defocus and refocus whenever you use the longer focal length and you shift focus from a near to far object. Unit already has the latest firmware but still happening. Nevertheless, was not a deal breaker for me as the quality of the lens was still great overall. No regrets.

    Great review series Dustin!!! I just rented this lens for a weekend photo shoot for my Nephew's rehearsal dinner. I was amazed by it. My quick test proved the same thing that Dustin came up with. The VC works extremely well and the light transmission is amazing. I was able to hand hold down to 1/13th of a second and still get a sharp image. When I tested it against my Canon 24-105L F4 it was always a stop better with light transmission. Testing hand held in a dimly lit room at 1/80th and F4 the Canon registered 3200 in auto ISO and the the Tamron registered 2500 at the exact same settings. When opened up to 2.8 the ISO was 1250. I was sad to send it back. The images from the weekend were spectacular and now I want to buy this lens!

    Greetings Dustin from Malaysia! I'm a Nikon user. Their previous non VR 24-70 was a legend. New VR version is great but sadly the price is exorbitant. I found this Tamron fits the bill as an alternative to Nikon's current version. Tamron has improved significantly, period. The price alone will shift Nikon and Canon shooters to it alone. Already, this lens is pin sharp in daylight shooting, better still when I attach my NiSi ND's on it. Think Tamron's 70-200 G2 will be equally good. Thank you for your comprehensive review of this Tamron 24-70 G2. You're a real pro Bro

    Hi Dustin, your conclusion follows from your observation which is a good thing; compared to others who evaluate the details and then somewhat deviate in their conclusion. Your hard work is really commendable. The way these videos come across is like we are part of your team and we see your methodology/process, how it unfolds to its conclusion. You are very fair but at the same time respectful of the efforts of the manufacturers, i.e. you don't bash them even though you do point our their weaknesses and/or flaws. I have lenses from Canon (L), Tamron (G2s), and Sigma Art, and my experience pretty much agree with yours as far as their overall behavior is concerned. Canon is still king when shooting in ideal situations but Tamron shines in less than ideal situations (like handheld shots and in dark scenes). If I have to use the tripod then I pick up my L lens, no question in my mind. Everything else? I go with my non-Canons. Also, it's a good thing you mentioned the economic aspect of these lenses. Photography is already expensive to begin with, so anything that helps buyers make a good purchase is really appreciated. The majority of photographers don't have an unlimited access to money so we are always looking for that balance between price and performance. In this particular case, it was VERY obvious from the tests that there is only a minor gain from Canon. And that gain is quickly offset by the VC of Tamron. Looking forward to your next reviews. Keep up the good work.

    Thank you for this great detailed review. The real world comparison is absolutely essential when it comes to camera gear. I'm a hobbyist so I don't need the top of the gear but it was very interesting to see how it compares to the Canon. I guess I consider myself a pro-newbie and was actually amazed at how much stabilization made a difference on the Tamron, which leads me to think I'll get way better shots with the Tamron as I'm more of a run and gun shooter when it comes to stills. Your review seemed very unbiased as opposed to all these sponsored "reviewers"

    Great review as always Dustin. The only thing preventing me from buying this lens is that the barrel telescopes to zoom. A telescoping lens sucks in air as it expands, like a syringe sucking in fluid. This is a huge design flaw for dust and debris to enter and settle on the internal lenses. If this did not expand I would really consider this lens.

But I used it for a few days and loved it so much that I just bought a brand new one and it gets here Thursday. After some Google searches, however, I found that this seems to be a relatively common issue with this lens... so I'm hoping against hope that it doesn't become a problem.

    also will the Tamron 24-70mm .2.8 wud be a big step forward from the canon 17-55mm .2.8? on a 32.5 megapixel sensor?

      The short answer is "yes" - you are starting with a better lens optically.

    Canon has now produced an IS 24-70 RF lens and will soon bring to market an RF 24-105 f2.8 IS lens. I considered both. I rejected the 24-105 Canon due to its size -it's nearly 8" long, sort of defeating my desire for a general purpose lens. The RF 24-70 IS is expensive (~$2300), nearly twice the cost of the Tamron G2. As a non pro, I'm not prepared to pay that much for a lens. Reviews say that there isn't all that much to set the RF above the G2 optically. So, my G2 is in the mail, and I look forward to using it, having spent the saving (with some extra) on an R5 to go with my 5dm4. Otherwise, I have a EF Canon 16-34 2.8L IS, a EF Canon 50mm 1.4, an EF Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, a Canon 100 2.8L IS macro, and a Canon EF 100-400 4.5-5.6L IS II that I got a great price on refurbished from Canon. I've saved quite a lot by going to used version I or II lenses rather than new version IIIs, and am saving half a fortune buying this G2. I now have to expand my capabilities into the envelope delimited by this one-time pro equipment set. It's so far proven quite a challenge to come up on the digital camera and all these lenses, but I am greatly enjoying it in my retirement. I've appreciated your reviews.

      There are definitely some difficult buying decisions out there. I hope you're happy. This lens should work fine on the R5, and of course you can continue to use it on the 5DIV

    Great review Dustin. As a wedding photographer I was slightly concerned by the amount of barrel distortion this lens may have shooting at 24mm. Would it really be an issue for wedding and portrait photography?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 6 lety

      I doubt it. I've used the previous generation lens for many, many weddings without issue.

    Bravo Dustin - another killer review! I am often conflicted if I should move to a slightly faster 2.8 and narrow focal range from my Sigma 24-105 F4. I love the Sigma focal range and the images are very good but this new D850 seems to highlight a lens' limitations.

      Mr. @@DustinAbbottTWI , just got my Tamron 24-70 F2.8 G2 . i had a chance to use the first version but this G2 is far far way better than the first one. i was using Canon original 24-105mm F4.0 L IS combining with 70-200 F2.8 IS ii for my wedding photography and that 24-105mm could not match the color or sharpness of 70-200 F2.8 . now with this Tamron G2 version the color and sharpness is totally matching and can not be more happy to use this lens. i did not go for canon 24-70 F2.8 ii and i think i did the right thing. may be i will miss the range till 105mm but can manage that. thanks a lot for your review. hope to keep in touch. all the best with your channel

    Great review content Dustin I will be picking up this lens this week fo the Nikon D750 do you recommend getting the Tamron tap-in console for the Nikon mount

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Před 6 lety

      I think having the Tap In is a great idea - if nothing else for firmware updates. If you will spend the time tweaking the AF in the console you will get great results.
