Caught an early arrival video of this fire--it was incredible how quickly this went to 5 alarms1 That small market was burning like hell on steroids! The spread to the adjoining buildings was scary. Great coverage and video--you always get the angles. This fire was one angry beast--FDNY beat it down.

Wow that’s a cooker. The original building 40x100, you could see earlier from the smoke pushing out of the original building that it was well involved. Too involved for an interior attack. It may have started more towards the rear of the original fire building. Excellent job on the video.
I saw a bit of earlier footage of that grocery store, heavy dark brownish smoke pushing hard out all the windows. Heavy volume of smoke. Maybe they had a couple hand lines on it at the time. Just a beast.

JJ, I don’t know what to say, watching this one hurt a little. I spent the better part of my career driving past the original fire buildings and the same about the exposures ( Cooper Ave ). I retired almost 7 yrs ago and the pizza / seafood spot wasn’t there yet, it was a closed down supermarket. The only other time I saw a job like that in Bushwick was the mattress factory fire sometime between 00-05. Nice catch

Anytime I see a fire in a food store, hardware store, large garage or warehouse; I always worry. So many items are there that can and will burn fiercely.
Just think about the cooking oils lane by itself, oils from all over the world in some good grocery stores. That will still burn pretty hard.
Then all the jobs and livelyhoods lost; many of those places are family run. If housing is attached, that's more grief to deal with.
