Cool! I've been putting off buying an action cam until your review for this camera came out. I'm a fan of your videos and I'm looking forward to the full thing.
Looks like a solid camera so far, looking forward to the other videos.
Looking forward to the review
I can't wait for the full review. Might have to upgrade my Sony Action Cam for EDC this year.
is the case on or of when it was filming and would the snow affect the camera if u dont have the case while snowboarding
I think I am going to get it looks awesome
When you have recorded this material had you enabled the reduction of the wind?
What camera would you recommend for good audio that is also waterproof. An interchangeable battery would be nice too
are you filming it with the waterproof housing
thanx already for this pre-review and looking realy forward to see your full review on this action cam.
It looks already very good!
hope you do also a compare with the other cams like the Hero 4 silver, black & session, sjcam 5000x
....and ofcourse the older models of Sony.
+John Doe We'll be doing comparisons. A few in the full review but we'll go into the more indepth fashion later on.
please make a comparison with as200v
brought 2 cameras Sony AS50 and Sony AC200. the price is the same, which one to choose? Which one better? in your video, the AS 200 is like the best quality.
Would you recommend this over the HeroSession?
please, does it have an external mic Jack?
+JBG TRAVELS It does not.
Will the video quality be worsen with the waterproof casing on? Cause your video seems to be one of the more impressive ones compare to other videos bout as50..
Hello. Is the 1080p material compared with the 1080p from FDR-X1000 the same image-quality (sharpens, colors, etc.)?
+MK Can't say for sure yet but it's something we'll be exploring in the near future.
Hey Mark did u take this video with the case on or off? And how is the audio with the case on? I'm looking to get an action camera for fishing and need good audio and waterproof?
+Rush Outdoors Case is off, generally waterproof cases will sound very muffled.
for a starter action cam would you recommend the asv200 or as50?
+John Miao Tough choice but the AS50 is a better to operate camera and less confusing. It's not to far off from the AS200 in terms of quality.
Would this camera be recommended over the go pro hero session? Which one has better image quality? Also, is the shape factor important? I'd really appreciate the feedback, thank you in advance
Depends on what's importance to you. We'll have a side by side soon hopefully.
+MarkHawkCam thank you for the reply, great channel. I decided to get the hero 4 silver and see how that goes
Seems like finally it is possible to get rid of extreme distortions without changing the lens. Is there any quality loss at narrow (90 degree or so) FOV setting?
+Farrukh Pitafi You could get rid of the distortion with earlier cams too without changing the lense - it is just a matter of your video editing software.
+NicGaming Without involving any correction software bro. The IQ takes a serious hit if done via software.
Farrukh Pitafi I have done it multiple times and can tell you that the difference is barely noticeable, since the objects close to the edges are very smudgy anyways.
I though understand what you mean.
Is this video made with waterproof case? Is the camera Splashproof?
Is as50 connectable with Feiyu stabilizer?
Would be interesting to see the quality of slow mo!
Thanks for Your work )
+Natalia A.S. No waterproof case and no the AS50 isn't splash proof. Just had to be very careful not to drop it in the snow. No stabilizer either, just Steady shot turned on. There is some slow motion stuff around the 1:09 mark.
Can i use go pro accessories on this camera?
yes if u have what u need to use for the go pro accessory
Always ontop of the releases! Thanks for all the work you put in. Do you know if Sony is going to bring out a successor of the Sony FDR X1000 in the (close) future?
+Wolf B There is nothing announced yet.
I hope they finally patch the Software to enable some of the features here on the FDR X1000. That would make a followup for the X1000 unnecessary for at least halfa year imo.
+NicGaming Thanks for the info :)
I am considering to buy a X1000 at the moment. Seems like the best option right now, sharper (and also cheaper than the GoPro4 Hero Black). Only thing is the lense distortion but I hope to fix that post production.
Wolf B I like to remove the fisheye with "Corel Video Studio Pro X8 Ultimate" - there is a tutorial here on CZcams somewhere.
+NicGaming I'll definately check it out! Thanks :) Especially as adobe moved to a licensing model :|
Were you able to confirm that you can capture video in Narrow angle with Steady Shot off? And is Wide and Narrow still 170/120 degrees?
+Walter Klatt Confirmed. You can also turn on and off the camera by turning on and off the remote. Small catch is (really small) if you turn on the remote BUT turn it off before it fully connects to the camera, you have to manually turn the camera off, then back on for the remote to fnd it again and sync it's on off settings.
Basically if the remote get turned on by mistake, let it fully connect to the camera before you turn it off.
+MarkHawkCam Thanks. And are the Wide/Narrow angle setting still at 170/120 degrees?
I hope you can also do in-depth review about the new LVR-3 and Sony VCT-STG1 Shooting Grip.I really wanted to know whether the two accessories is worth to buy.
+Genza I'll talk about them during the review but really like both. Do wish the Shooting Grip could be longer but I'll be using it a lot.
Thanks
Can I ask what speed you've reduced things by at 1:10?
+Jason Payne 50% filming at 120fps. The video is playing at 60fps.
+MarkHawkCam Much appreciated dude, keep up the good work!
Did you ever try out the "burst" mode with the older cameras?
+NicGaming Yeah works pretty much the same but I never really had a chance to share the results.
MarkHawkCam The results are good :) Can you get access to all the single photos too to blend them manually?
+NicGaming Nope, all done in the camera. You could switch the camera to the traditional burst mode though to do yourself.
MarkHawkCam Thx for the info.
I never used the mode because I normally use my DSLR for images like that.
But it is a nifty feature for ppeople who don't want to merge multiple photos.
What is the purposeof the IR-LED on the remote?
+NicGaming The only LED functions I've seen on the remote are to tell you it's recording or that it's charging. The manual kinda sucks. Not a lot of details.
MarkHawkCam Thanks for the reply ;)
how does it sound with the case on? I hear it becomes muted quite considerably?
+Kieron Petrusow Its almost silent with the supplied case on. He tests it with both as200 and as50 and you cannot hear anything with the as50. It is the only factor holding me back from buying this camera.
+Sierra Nevada absolutely agree with that statement, REALLY! want this camera for travelling and airsoft but the sound is a must.
+Kieron Petrusow I am going to buy the as200 and live with the bad menu. it's on sale on and off for 200$ us and has great audio and is a good value. like you said , audio is a must 🖒
I will be going back to the drawing board yet again. I get so far and the product always provides a massive negative.
Thanks for help.
Would really like to see comparison to hdras200v
+Gerardo Capo It'll be part of tonights review. We'll also be going into more depth in a later video.
Please compare this Sony with Gopro 4 Silver. Seems like it's feature is high enough to beat the silver.
+Lasker The quality to me seems on par more with the Go Pro Hero 4+ black edition. I bought that camera initially and returned it to get this product. Much more happy with the Sony and is half the price (although no 1080p 120fps)
+AlexRAWsome GoPro Hero 4 Black is more for the video-editing people...the raw image quali isnt that good straight out of the cam but you have much more data to work with after filming compare to the Sony hdr AS50
The Sony are more for the people that don't use editing software that much....its raw image straight out of the cam is just way better.
And that stabilizer from Sony...its just killing the GoPro's imho
...and you can buy 2 sony's for one GoPro Hero4 Black
But, to be honest, a compare between the Sony x1000v & GoPro Hero4 Black is more fair as they have the same video-outputs and the same price & year more or less.
And that review by Mark was a win for the GoPro Hero 4 Black if i remember correct
But a compare between the "old" Sony FDR-X1000V & the new Sony hdrAS50 should be very interesting ;)
Is there coming a GoPro 5 this year ???
+John Doe Yeah .. comparing AS50 and FDR-X1000V is going to be very interesting indeed.
Thing is, is it better to go with AS50 now or wait for some 'higher end' version from Sony later this year. That's the hard question.
Lasker Saw Yes it's been almost a year since the release of the x1000v and sadly I couldn't wait until the next release but luckily at $200 this camera is one of the biggest bangs for your buck currently.
+Lasker Saw It is Sonys direct competitor to the GoPro Hero and Hero+. But I agree - it looks even with the Hero 4 S
Still the same annoying warping in the edges with steadyshot, directly noticed it within the first 10 seconds. This way steadyshot is a no-go for me. But maybe without steadyshot the cam is useable now, if they improved the extreme lense-distortion at least?
+GalaxyTraveler Better but still there. Check out our full review. You can see the mild improvement in the lens distortion section. czcams.com/video/UyMNJNEXwWo/video.html&lc=z12rhvkxekqlezief23khn3xvyyjcbay104
whats LVR3 ?
is that the snow board?
+Maxim Mee It's the "Live View Remote v3" or LVR3 for short. Wrist mounted LCD remote.
+MarkHawkCam Did you record there without the underwater case? Cause the sound is very clear (if it was the cam) also the picture itself is very sharp and clear. How is it protected without the case? In scenarios like snow (water) splash etc? Did you disable the steadyshot function?
Kinda pissed after getting my AS200 to see they fixed the majority of the complaints and came in at $100 cheaper
Still Cant beat the deal I got with your promo code though
+ndinadis I have some direct comparisons in the full review. I'll try and throw some download links up tonight or tomorrow in the more info section below the video.
so I'm on the fence as now Sony will almost certainly introduce more models in this new form factor. But dang this looks impressive.
+Vince McK Sony typically introduces new cameras in early March and in early September.
Seems kinda big for an action camera
+Onus News Service Hard to judge but Sony's are fairly small. In fact they house one of the smallest higher end ones around, the AZ1. This one is a bit bigger then the AZ1 but on par with the AS200.
ompared with one another sony AS50 and AS200
+Michał Kowalski Already did, you'll see some clips in the review tonight and more in depth later on.
+MarkHawkCam thanks :)
Hey Mark! I just received the hdr as50 and I've noticed that your quality seems much sharper than mine. The quality seems great in the raw format and as I transfer it to youtube the quality suffers. I just recently bought the Samsung evo plus 128gb (tinyurl.com/hk6g2j5) and wondered if that had anything to do with the quality considering this camera has a high byte rate of transfer. Thanks!
+AlexRAWsome Could be CZcams or your export settings. Card seems like it should be fine. The write speeds aren't the fastest but again should be enough. CZcams might still be giving higher bit rates to established users. It was something they've done but not sure they still do it. What are you exporting out of? Just uploading RAW clips right? Also you've select HD/XAVC-S in the mode settings correct? When you press the up and down arrows on from loop to video, do you get a XAVC-S Warning pop up? If not then your card can handle the footage without issue. The manual says prolonged heat can be an issue to. Could trying filming outside of the case but I doubt this is your issue. Just listing everything I can think of.
MarkHawkCam Thanks Mark. I exported through Cyberlink PowerDirector 14. I tried both the raw video format and the "youtube" setting. I did have the camera set to mp4 but I didn't realize how the XAVC-S can provide better motion quality slightly. I will try that setting that later but I did also order your recommended SD card in order to rule out the memory as well. Thanks for your suggestions!
+AlexRAWsome You should notice a nice bump switching up to XAVC-S. Those cards are also really good. Anyway let me know how your next tests go. :D
MarkHawkCam Cool Thanks! One other question is that the volume seems very muffled with the waterproof casing on. Is this normal? I can barely pick up any voice over with it on from a few feet. I don't believe my gopro had this issue.
+AlexRAWsome Pretty normal.
Sony HDR AS50 снимает не очень , стабилизация вообще плохая, вот пример моего видео : czcams.com/video/SC2ifPq9Y2I/video.html
