Great video! Thanks for the tips!
One question, what settings do you use to get this motion blur (6:06)?
You’ll need to force your shutter speed to lower by restricting the MAX ISO - you may struggle on bright days as less ISO is required and in this case you will need to use an ND filter :)
@@HenryCrew35 Nice, thanks!
I tried using a slow shutter speed on a video and it got so bright! I need to look for one of those filters!
What shutter speed do you use?
I always use the max iso at 400, but I never got to see the difference on day footage!
Yeh you can’t actually set shutter speed on a gopro but lowering the ISO forces the automatic shutter speed to slow. It really depends on the day - how bright it is but also how late in the day too as dusk will affect it a lot because gopro isn’t amazing in low light due to the small sensor. That does sound about right - if you use an ND you may not need to cap it as much. Ideally you want a low ISO for better image quality / less noise. If you can use 100-400 iso in the evening when the light fades or with an ND filter any time of day you’ll get a great result :)
@@HenryCrew35 are you sure you can’t change shutter speed? Or fps?
@@thecrowfliescrooked you can change FPS when shooting video but you can’t control shutter speed you have to force it to slow by controlling the ISO and potentially using an ND filter.
This like a GoPro film school in one video.
😂 hope it was useful!
Chilled vibes and great tips - cheers👍🏼
Just found your site. Real nice thank you. I have just bought my first camera so great to hear about getting some of the bike in the shot for perspective. Was going to just stick it as far forward as I could get on my GSA. Have to have another think now.
Absolutely great set of tips. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent, just what I needed! Thanks!
Great tips Henry
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Roland!
Great video Henry! Perfect timing too as I've just started looking into using the GoPro more. That's the goal for '21 - get out more on the bikes and document the rides.
Cheers for the video!
Yes Paul! and don't let that footage sit their unused!
Really good tips - thank you Henry
Thanks Nigel, glad it was useful!
Great video! i needed this
great info! thanks for sharing
TRIUMPH!! Great video - thanks
Thank you!
Brilliant tips.
Loved the video!
This is the best mounting guide video for motorcyclists! I actually use the suction mount and it works great for me. I have a HD Road King and stick it on my windshield. I clean the windshield with Windex before sticking it on. I’ve noticed that it will fall off if I don’t clean it properly as it is not actually sticking to the windshield, but the dust and dirt. I really like the Dango grip you mentioned and I’m going to purchase one as soon as I get paid. I like the helmet view and that seems to be the best solution for it.
Glad your suction mount is working out, if possible I would advise using a tether with it just in case!
Thanks for these great tips and tricks! Excellent video. And no suction cups- heard! 😁
Ram Mounts are pretty awesome. They aren’t cheap but you can get some wicked angles! 😁
Heyo Henry! Also got a small but growing channel and came across yours just looking up inspiration of GoPro mounting positions. Best of luck on the future and keep it up!
Hi Henry,
I've been thinking about capturing some on bike footage as going to collect a new bike in a few days. I've shot some before when on a European trip with my partner Tamsin who also rides. Great video, full of great advice. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I have a CZcams channel myself and spend a long time editing video content which I really enjoy but oh boy doesn't it take some time to get it looking good 🤦♂️😂
Kind regards Paul from 48 Spokes 🇬🇧
Great info. Thanks.
Great video,thank you
Great video and thanks so much for the tips. I am getting ready to try to create some content so it is very helpful. I was surprised to hear you say not to use the GoPro suction mounts. I have used these mounts for quite a few years and with very good success. I will say that the location is of the utmost importance. I ride a BMW K1600GTLE and it does quite well on the fairings but not so much on the rear box.
I just live it. Thank u so much for this tips....
Glad you liked the video 😀
You created value for your viewers!
This is an awesomely useful video, in a very concise manner. Thanks!
Thanks!
Great video man, tks for the information.
Thanks!
Man this by far is the best damn video on tips
What a great quality video
Great tip about time lapse and sticky mounts. I'm gonna put one on the beak of my GSA. Sounds like a great spot...
Hi, i purchased one of those GoPro camera mounts for my GSA, rock solid and sits above the headlight. @HC thank you for the tips - my suction mount put aside for use in 4 wheel contraptions, sticky mounts etc for the 2 wheel machines only!
That’s awesome! Hope you capture some great memories.
Useful video Brother.. thanks
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Great tips! I just bought my first motorcycle, a Rebel 250. Gonna use those to shoot my rides on the roads of Japan :D
Awesome! Some incredible roads in Japan, the read and white road borders in the mountains will look awesome too!
Great video, easy listening 👌
Thanks!
Great advice for experienced and novices
Thanks!
Thank you.
Really good video, love the presentation style and lack of waffle!! GREAT JOB!
Thanks!
Helpful! You're the best
Thanks!
That's why I still have my standard sidemirror on my gsxr. I use the rod to mount my Gopro. Just got my GoPro 9!
very imformative, thanks!
😀

Super useful video Henry!! Some transferable tips there for mountain biking too - especially the ISO speed reduction for that sweet sweet motion blur! Don’t know if it’s helpful or not, but for audio on my motorbike, I find using the iPhone voice memo app with the phone stored under the seat works pretty well. Or at least better than the GoPro audio!
Yes! Lot's of stuff that will work for any action sport - I manage to make my slow self look a bit faster on a mountain bike with the ISO cap! Good shout on the audio!
Great tips. Thank God I found your channel.
😁😁
Great video would good tips. I'm going to look into that chin grip attachment device. I've been using a series of sticky/clamps on my helmet and I don't really like it. Thanks for the video.
I’ve used suction mounts routinely, but ONLY with a tether firmly attached to the motorcycle if it should let loose!
I just bought a whole vlog chin mount set up. Well see how it all goes. First time gopro user
Thank you for the tips
You’re welcome! Best of luck!
Nice!
thatvwas one of the best i watched thanks
Thank you so much for your video!
Me and my wife were just trying to figure it out the best approach for setting up the camera.
We usually use the sticky base on the top of the helmet, but the shot must be low angled and sometimes cuts the sky, showing more of the road and bike bar.
We gonna probably look after that 360º mount on the bar and the dang clip mount for the helmet.
We were facing exactly the issue you described where we have to unscrew and screw again the bar mount to get a face shot or front ride shot.
I guess having more than one camera helps a lot by taking the footage.
About the battery duration, do you see any difference on the duration using the Timelapse mode? We didn't try that out yet, because we only have 1 camera for now, but our camera does 40 to 60 min record of normal video, is that the regular duration for you as well?
Also, do you have any suggestion of brand or website to buy them?
Sorry for all those questions
Thank you again
Hey Wilson!
The 360 bar mount is made by GoPro, it’s a good investment! Dango I think depends where you live - I got mine direct from Dango Design UK.
Time lapse photo will likely give you a better battery life as processing video is hard work. The files are a lot smaller and it’s not constantly working. I guess it depends what camera you are using, my hero 9 lasts a lot longer than my hero 7/5 and is shooting bigger video files. 40/60 mins of shooting sounds about right for video. With time lapse photo I would just use it on sections where I think it will have good results, not on all the time, that’s another benefit of mounting on the chin over mounting on the helmet as you can reach it a bit easier to turn it off and on.
very good video thank you my friend
Thanks!
That shot at 6:02.... Is a wallpaper.... 👌👌👌
Thanks!
So ignore my comment on your other GoPro video! 🤣 I love the chesty harness too! Great tips and video! 😁👍
Thanks mate!
@@HenryCrew35 I did a long hi message last night but it seems to have disappeared. Love the Scotland video, I recognise a few of those locations. I also managed to have an accident with my camera, a Canon 5D Mark IV! 😩🤣🤣👍
@@TheAdventuresofPhilJones yeh I saw the notification but it just said ‘comment unavailable’ when I clicked it! Ouch that sounds more expensive than a £18 gopro lens cover 😂
@@HenryCrew35 Thanks for letting me know! It probably thought it was spam as it was my first message to you? Hopefully we can meet up this year and have a spin and shoot some stuff! 😁 The Ram mounts aren’t cheap are they! 😩
This video has no dislikes!
Very helpful video. Thanks very much. Can you be a little more specific about headphones and microphones to get the best audio while riding. Can you recommend a make and model?
It’s kind of just a cheap way to do it, use your phone headphones, it’ll be better than standard GoPro audio. I plug them into my phone and use the voice recorder. If you wanted to get a bit more fancy you could buy a Lav mic and do the same thing.
No matter how good the adhesive may be please try tying a small rope like a shoe lace to the go pro mount attached to the bike so when it falls it hangs and not fall off to the ground
always use a safety tether. i personally just tie some paracord to it and the nearest object. it has saved my camera many times.
I use my suction cup on my Vespa, never had a problem with it
To solve battery issue. I bought a Y plug for my heated vest and a USB plug. Now I just plug in the camera w/o a battery as I’m riding.
Never fails the best shots and scenery come up when you run out of battery.
Just remember to turn off camera at stops for lunch etc or you will kill the bike battery eventually.
Hi Henry. Thank you for this content. So my wife asks me, what do you want for your birthday. I’m literally just starting a YT channel with focus around bikes - so a ask for the GoPro 9. It’s just arrived 😀
Thanks again. And keep up the good work.
*just subbed. Help you get to that 2K👍👍
Awesome! The 9 is epic! I’ve had it about a year and it’s truly incredible! I would recommend the ‘max lens’ mod as it allows you to use horizon levelling at a wider angle which is perfect for motorcycles!
Would love to know more about how you did the photo from your chest mount with blurred scenery and lovely focused bike whilst riding
I have a chest mount and would love to do that for my instagram 😁 👌
I think I explained it in another comment below - basically you cap the ISO to force the shutter to slow down, as the background is moving much more than the bike it doesn’t need to be super slow but a little is enough to get a blurred background and sharp bike. It’s best to try this in slightly lower light - maybe evening or under a lot of tree cover - as slowing down the shutter and let’s in more light and it may blow out the image but also capping the ISO doesn’t work in bright light because the ISO is already super low - if you want motion blur in bright situations you need to use an ND filter :)
I’ve just pinned the comment where I explain this in detail so it should now appear at the top of the comments section! 🤞
@@HenryCrew35 brilliant thank you Henry , I’ll try that when we can get out , ive got a set of nd filters as well so I’ll play around with those too 👍🏼😁
hey
Do you have a good editing program for the go pro that also is compatible with the hotspots. Dnd is the origanel bar mounting with rubber absorber for vibration? some recomandings for case and handel bar moutings for my 7 black? i broke the eye for mounting off.
Hey, not sure what you mean by the hotspots? I normally don’t edit on mobile but the GoPro app is ok and so is premiere rush. Rubber things are normally for vibration, the 360 bar mount GoPro makes is good.
Great video. Love it. Question, do you use the GoPro subscription ?
I had it for a year for free and never used it so cancelled
@HenryCrew35 thanks, was thinking about it because when it drops, wich happend to my gopro max, they'll replace it without questions. But yea..
Yeh the smaller GoPros aren’t as easy to totally break I have only broken lens covers and they’re about £10
@@HenryCrew35 cool, good to know. Thank you !
Could you say again the video editing suites you recommend please, I couldn’t make out the first one.
Lightroom Mobile for photo and Premiere Rush for video 😁
@@HenryCrew35 thank you Henry for the swift reply.
How are you improving the exhaust sound recording using a hero7? Any microphone or equipment tips?
Sometimes I will plug headphones with a mic into my phone and strap them under the seat of my bike but normally I just make sure wind reduction is turned on and then edit out some background noise if I can
Zoom H2n microphone is the answer.. you can plug directly to your gopro..or record sound separately and put together when editing..
What is a good microphone for mounting in motorcycle helmet?
Can you recommend a tall strong stick for the rear of my bike to shoot above me? im not super tall, but I like that look as well sometimes to mix it up
I’ve not used one before, it’s really hard to fix them in place because there’s so much leverage once you extend it
can you tell me where the camera was mounted at 6:39, that is one of my fav mount positions so far. I am a new rider and just passed yesterday and went on my first ride and I think it would be fun to record
Mounted on the handlebars facing backwards
About mounting gopro on motorcycle and its safety.
When riding you have always a risk that some particle will hit the cam during the ride.
Initially I tried to use waterproof case for safety yet camera gets hot in this case resulting in steam inside and ruin the clips boeing recorded.
Tell me what is safe and giving no steamy vids then?
What triumph models is it ?
thank for your vidéo ! 💪✌️
Street triple 675 👌
How long can you record video? I’m assuming it depends on storage as well. Like for a long trip the go pro is on the entire time? I don’t know much about them.
It does a few of hours recording and a 64gb memory card will store about the same if filming in 1080p but the higher the resolution the more memory it needs. It’s varies quite a lot to be honest! With GoPro it’s best not to film all the time as you end up with hours of footage that you don’t want to look through.
Will mounting a GoPro to engine crash bars give usable footage? I've been told that anywhere on the bike itself will result in such bad vibrations that the footage is useless.
Unless the camera is thousands of dollars with state of the art stabilisation processing.
I get the feeling that with you this isn't the case.
However you did mention that earlier GoPros have lesser stabilisation abilities.
Which generation of GoPro would be needed if I were to use a tube grab mount on my engine crash bars for video footage?
You’ll be fine with anything after the hero 5 which you should be able to pick up very cheap. Even the latest, top spec GoPro is around £400 & any of the newer ones will give great results.
What apps are good for editing with the GoPro? Does the GoPro9 comes with editing features?
You can edit in the GoPro app or on desktop but I use premiere pro which is a subscription software.
I’m thinking of using a chesty mount on my Harley as I wear a modular helmet and setting it up on the chin is a pain. Will I be able to plug an external mic from the GoPro 8 up my jacket and into me helmet for commentary?
Sorry, I forgot to say what a great video and some really great tips! Thanks Henry 👍
Hey Steve! Glad you liked the video and found it useful! Yes but it depends how you are plugging the mic into the GoPro. I assume you’ll use an adapter to get the right Jack size? As long as the lead is long enough this should work. Or you could go wireless but they’re a lot more expensive. Another option would be to record audio separately with a mic that plugs into an audio recorder. The only compromise here is that you then need to sync audio.
@@HenryCrew35 thanks Henry. Yes, I’ve got the GoPro adapter for the external microphone and a purple panda lav mic kit. I think the lead is about 1.5m so more than long enough. I’m planning on riding down through France and Spain to the costa del sol in May so want to capture it. My first really long trip so I’m trying to get a set up now so I can practice before I set off. I really appreciate your help, I’ve got no idea what I’m doing with this so your advice and help is invaluable! Thanks again.
That sounds awesome! I know you can also get external battery packs that a lot of motorcycle vloggers use, that might come in handy too.
@@HenryCrew35 really? That’s sounds like a plan! Thanks Henry!
I'll give you like before watching, just because you ride triple haha
Bro I hope you can give me some advise with capturing quality audio. I'm looking all over the internet for tips on how to get more of the engine and exhaust sounds and less of the wind spamming my audio recording. Great tips otherwise
Tape a mic under the wheel arch, should keep wind out and pick up exhaust note, make sure you have a wind shield (dead cat) on the mic
The tip to not use suction mount would be helpful 🤝🏻
Whats your advice for a longer video recording?
❤
👌
hi, what is your recomended shutterspeed and iso for a perfect motion blur? thanks in advance!🤟
Hey Carlo, you can’t set shutter speed on the gopro so it’s a bit of a guessing game that you’ll need to play around with by caPping ISO and using ND filters
@@HenryCrew35 Are there different settings for different gopros? I've got an gopro hero 5 and I can choose the shutterspeed on it.
Oh maybe! I had a 5 black and I could not... you’ll have to experiment, it will vary depending on light but a good rule is anything below 125 should give some blur.
@@HenryCrew35 And is more blur better or worse? I didn't catch in the video
If you want to have a blurred background to give the impression of speed then you’ll need to lower the shutter speed to get this affect but lower it too much and the bike will also appear blurred due to vibration and other movement. It’s a balance, I would set it to 125 and try it and then lower and lower until you get the result you want :)
Just did over 100 miles with a suction mount no issues
It’s ok if you have a perfect surface for it but I’ve had far too many failures - the three pad ones will perform better but the GoPro one is junk.
Here's a tip for you, from a pro videographer - LOOK DOWN THE LENS to make virtual eye contact with your viewer. It encourages psychological engagement.
Both of your camera angles have you looking 1) away from the camera (like you're not interested in me, but someone else) and 2) over the top of the lens (like your avoiding eye contact with me). This side-on camera idea that was popular some time ago is dated and never worked in terms of connecting a speaker to their audience.
This video is three years old - you can probably see this change in the majority of my more recent content as this was one of the first pieces to camera I uploaded
5:01
How do you capture pictures while riding?
I explain this at around 6 minutes in 😁
@@HenryCrew35 whoops, my bad😅
Front fender looks secure enough.
My GoPro is hero 3. I use chest strap because of the vibration.
Hero 3 doesn’t have hyper smooth so, I gotta be a little creative
Yeh if you body mount it you’ll have a human gimble but you may still get shutter roll etc.
How Do I Take A Portrait While Riding lol 🤔
You’d have to mount the camera facing back towards you on a wide field of view and use time lapse photo to take images hands free whilst riding
Super late here, but throw a sticker down on the bike and put the sticky mount over the top!
Oh that’s a cool idea - to stop the sticky mount damaging paint etc?
@@HenryCrew35 Yeah! The surface area of the sticker allows the lighter glue (of the sticker in comparison to the mount) to still stay firmly planted without any issues.
