- Have you just forked out ~500 bucks on the latest GoPro, only to find that your footage looks nothing like your favourite CZcamsr’s and all you can hear is wind noise? Not to worry, I’ve been using GoPros for over ten years! And in this video I’ll show you how best to set yours up for action POV footage such as motocross, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding, car racing, motovlogging and so on... This tutorial applies loosely to all GoPro models; from the original HERO, right up to the HERO10 Black… but you’ll only be able to follow it word for word with HERO7s and higher. All you’re going to need before we start is a mic sock, some double-sided tape, scissors and a knife! Some patience wouldn’t go amiss either…

Dude, you’re a saint. I did everything with the settings and wind reduction and the difference is insane, the 2 videos on my channel are before I found this video and after, it’s like the first was filmed with a cabbage in comparison.
Thanks for the video🤙🏻
I am sooo thrilled to come across your video! I have made the changes, and ready to moustache my mikes, and look forward to better quality videos! Thank you, my biking friend!
Dude! This is like one of the best and most informative videos I’ve ever watched! Thanks so much for your work here.
Awesome video man! Tried these go pro settings on my ride yesterday and wow the footage came out so good. Thanks for sharing your settings.
Can't thank you enough for this video that as a newbie Gopro user I found super helpful, and I have watched a lot of others, none as clear and easy to follow and down to earth. Good on yer bloke, Cheers!
hey ash love the videos. this video was so helpful... cant wait for a next ktm killer vid!
great video- didn't think I needed to go through my settings particularly, but had to stay for the full video. Quality tips chief
Solid! Thanks dude. Using these setting for my vids now. Kudos!
Ash, thanks so much for the tutorial on camera settings. I have been filming forever and I change some stuff but I am excited to try your settings. Have a great day!
Hope they work good for you mate!
i just randomly cilcked this vid and got the most comprehensive gopro how-to i could find. thanks bro
Nice job!!! The only thing I would add is maybe a cheat sheet with all the settings to refer back too instead of watch the video over and over and pausing at each setting.
omg this vid is a blessing.. never on earth I could imagine to do something like this to my go pro.. thank you
Thanks for the thorough discussion!
been needing a video like this and my favourtie dirtbike youtube happened to do it, ty ty
These are great tips. Thanks brother! 🤟
Hi Ash, you have been my go to GoPro settings guru for my hero 8. Brilliant settings for the point, ride and shoot guy that doesn’t edit.
Just updated to the 11 black and was wondering if you have an update video coming as the 11 has new features and settings that need explained only by you !
Love your work 👌 sweet as bro 😎
For adding foam to the mic you could use the Gopro mount adhesive if you don't have double sided tape.
mate love this - thanks a bunch - very helpful
Nice guide helps me allot i gonne try your setup this weekend i am beginner with the gopro 😊
Wicked video! Thanks man! 😊
this was perfect, thanks for the tips for my gopro
Hey man I was upset at first that you where stalling on the yz250 videos but I’m extremely grateful you shared this. You dumbed it down just enough for me and I needed this badly
Glad I could help mate. No one is stalling on the yz build btw shipping, building, filming and editing all add up, nothing's ever as simple as it looks
@@ashsowman yeah I understand man I have bikes I’m building myself. I just can’t wait to see the final product. I hope your adding a Rekluse or flywheel weight.
Thanks for your idea with the Shoei 👍. Was really wondering how i could mount it .
Excellent + video.
So many awesome tips thx
That was a really great video!!
I’ve used that huge GoPro mount that the GoPro is mounted on then it’s new in the box, cut it down to size, stuck some padding on the back so it doesn’t scratch my lid ad grips better, and then put 4 slit holes in it so I can zip tie it to the mouth bit on my helmet. Works a treat. I tried one of those Dango designs gripper things but as soon as it get knarly or your blasting whoops it just moves as the spring isnt strong enough. Generally use the media mod on my GoPro but that is a pain often as you have to take it off to change the batteries, but you can use it with a powerbank and run it all day. The media mod does give good audio, but ads bulk. As you aren’t allowed GoPros mounted to your person in the UK when racing most of the time I’ve started using my GoPro 360 more, mounted to my bars, and the audio on that is pretty good, the wind noise is bearable, a pig to edit tho when shooting in 360 mode. Thanks for the tips 👍
Very nice. The people at GoPro might could learn a lot from this vid.
Brilliant Video!!
This is only exactly the info. I required. Many thanks from USA.
Very nice - appreciate your great efforts. - RR - New England USA. - oh, and subbed. - Thx again.
Good idea.
Thanks a lot !
awesome video i especially was impressed that you crafty and did something on your own instead of blindly and immediately throwing money at 'problem' huge thumbs up for that 👍🏻👍🏻
it was one year ago so maybe sharpen filter changed/updated, but i was skeptical that it would worsen image quality in higher setting, did quick checks myself and sure enough image is objectively better on higher shaprness level, dont see need to set it to anything other than high. Its very good filter btw, its not typical simple effect, it doesnt create any artifact, and i had to do quite a zoom on images to see it working, so its rather subtle even on hight, personally i wouldnt mind even one or two steps higher sharpess setting to play with.
as for iso artifacts in low lighting theres no good answer imo - its choice between seeing close to nothing(lower max iso) or seeing something with ugly noise(higher max iso) - thats my conclusion after some testing in bad lighting condition.
overall super solid video 👍🏻👍🏻
also im not so hot about setting higher bitrate. again, did some a/b testing and from what i can see theres improvement in those higher res (2.7k+) but its about 5% better image quality for DOUBLE file size sooooo...
imo its better to set it to standard and use high bitrate only if aiming for absolute max image quality/ doing cinematic shots, if you can afford double weight. For shots on bike etc i dont see it being worth so much more data
regarding the chin mount, with my Fox V1 they have a Y shaped ridge in the chin vent.
I found an old gopro tripod mount which are just round with I believe a brass M4 thread in the bottom/back.
I got an old plastic bottle of gun oil which was virtually the same diameter as the mount and cut both ends off making a cylinder , cut 3 small notches in it so it sat over the Y shaped ridge flush against the wire mesh. and then drilled an M4 hole dead centre of the Y.
I filled the tube with a product called MILLIPUT which is a 2 part putty that when mixed sets like a solid plastic, and pushed it on to the helmet over the Y to mould the shape, then let it set.
cut it to the desired length, drilled a hole through the centre, screw a bit of m4 rod in to the mount, slid my moulded piece over the rod and used epoxy to glue the mount to my moulded piece.
then just secured the mount to the helmet by poking the rod through the small hole I drilled and fixing in place with a washer and nut.
the mount couldn't spin or twist as it was moulded over the Y shaped ridge and the mount was barely even visible
greaat wind fix I am going to try that Thanks for your tip
Well done Mate.
Super helpful!
Bit late to the party but you have made it so easy for me to get a go pro 8 and get great footage and audio as a complete amateur. Have a 1992 zxr which revs to like 19k so will make for great road footage up to raglan
thanks man... have the gopro 8 ... helped
Thanks for sharing! I've just started YouTubing and I'm a road cyclist with a GoPro so this is super useful! ❤
Very beautiful video!!! 👍👍 Greetings,,,
God information here. Seriously.
Thankyou
Thank you! 👍
u can use a little straight bar about half a inch long that will allow the camera to be moved out and then can tilt it back more that is what i did with my oneal series 10 helmet
Awesome video, thanks for the tips! I know this video is from a while back now, but I was curious what other cameras you use besides the GoPro? I just started a CZcams channel a couple months ago with me riding/working on my motorcycle. I’m looking for some other options to go along with my GoPro Hero 10. If you have any suggestions I would be into hearing what you got to say.
I subscribed to your channel too, I think I could learn a few things from ya. Looks like you guys have a lot of fun out there! ✌️
yea same
Thanks. 🙏🏾🙌🏾
hi; did you disable wind reduction from the gopro. I didn't and the the sound was muffeled when there was a lot of wind and then came back when talking.Very inconstante.
Hi mate, great easy to watch clip. I did the wind sound hack with mic sock & works well. Though yesterday went riding in the bush while raining 🌧. Not good unfortunately, the wind mic sock hold the water therefore blocks allot of sound. Tip- remove sound sock if raining.
Yeah for sure, the video does mention this btw
@@ashsowman sorry,I must of missed that 👍
Precious. Tnx.
Great vid Ash, just bought a Go Pro 9 and now just trying to learn how to make vids eith good audio. ( bought nedia mod and Rode wireless go mic)
My main stress and overwhelm with these cameras is dealing with that GoPro quick app.
I have no idea how to edit properly which is overwhelming in itself for a newb, just want to be able to film short clips and stitch together to make decent transitions.
Lools like i need the tge Gopro connect key for Android and mac.
Thanks for the vid mate you explain it all well. Can you make a vid about transeffing content to Android and Iphone and editing inntge Quick app please. Just a suggestion.
Great deal detail and very helpful video subscribed with a minute of watching. Can you please make a videos on how you edit now and how you started to get the start up and finish level to look for thanks
H2CarbonRider.
The 10 is sick , ill give some of the settings a go next time we go for a ride !
Hey mate, does the 10 have 4k 60 superview?
@@ReaLzEdits yep , my last 2 videos are that , stright from the camera
Hey man, loved the video. The trick for the wind noise was great. For the mount of the G.P.. Have you looked into trying out a product called Chin Mount. Have one on my helmet. Works great. They make mounts specifically for the helmet you have. So go check them out and see if they have one for you.
Later....
Thank you for sharing. Even if I don't look like a pro on the sumo, maybe my footage will lol.
Mint vid mate! Would be keen to know what post software you run if you don't mind sharing?
Thanks mate, I use VEGAS Pro and then After Effects whenever I need to do an effect that vegas either can't do or doesn't do very well
for mounts, suss out "chinmounts" if you've got a "popular" helmet. They've got a massive collection of 3d printed mounts specific to each different helmet model
Awesome 👍
I had a hero 5 that was that Dogs had a great wind noise cut on it out the box and great footage till I lost it. Then every other go pro RUBISH ! Thanks for your vid genius especially the mic foam. But how come the experts GOPRO don’t have this out the box given the huge cost. Ape Man camera just as good if not better and a fraction of the cost. Anyway I’ll be using all your tips 👍👍
thanks
I’ve copied your settings what editing software do you use before uploading it to CZcams ? I wonder if that’s some of my issues as it looks good on my MacBook before I upload it
CZcams does compress videos a lot. They'll never look as good on here as they do on your computer
I have an issue not really with wind but more so when I record my videos and when I talk even if I talk really loud all you can really hear is my dirt bike- is there any other way I could fix something like that
You'll have to get an aftermarket mic, look up motovlogger setup videos those guys will know what's best
DJI osmo action helmet chin mount! there you go 😉
So your shooting in 4:3 or 16:9?
Wheres the ktm killer vid ive been waiting for??
Liked and subscribed. Love the 'Subscribe Pls' on the bike LOL.
I just glued mine on lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 so true. When you expect that you have captured a good video and later you found out that the video sounds like you are riding through a storm with all those wind noise.
Do dead cats absorb water as well?
Thanks for the video but, everybody has a slightly different opinion on what GoPro settings are best. Makes it difficult to figure out what to shoot.
😵💫
For wind noise, I just use a wrist/sweat band and wrap it around the camera.
We need some more sikes adventures with the boys
Have you tried chin mounts?
Mantap👍
👍👍👍
I used fabric tape, it's a lot thinner and stickier than anything else you can find in store.
I wish i saw it before my 4,400 kms trip
I have a crf 150rb
Skip to 11:15 for the actual tutorial.
Tired the video settings at the beginning of the video. Sadly I do not like the results. A normal 20 mins of recording resulted in 5 3.9GB files, normally it would result in 2.5-3.5 GB file. Also it was very dark. I am sure its helpful for others based on their needs, but sadly i have to revert back to factory and do some more trials.
What's that song (@ 25sec) ?
czcams.com/video/Cathww6cTz8/video.html
i kinda of regret mine only because all the software seems awful the editor they provide crashes on PC features just DONT WORK on android GPS gages NEVER work in videos its just a nightmare. DJI has less features but none of the features GO pro has over DJI work soooo
bro I tried glue for the foam but it didnt attach well, did double sided tape work well?
Glue won't work, the foam will just soak it up and you'll risk it getting into the mic holes and ruining your GoPro forever. Double sided tape is the only way
🤩🇺🇸👍🎥
You can buy mounts for like 3 dollars and they are way better
I don’t know what “camera sittings” are. Nor do I know why “sit ups” would be important with cameras. Better abdominal muscles produce better video?
Got a shorter version of this vid like 3 min or less I don’t have half hour to waste
Bro where’s the yamaha
11 minutes and 18 seconds in to get to the Titled Content...WTF?
Hahahaah thanks broo
Hey don't want to see 50 ad in a video skip to the end. Then press replay button middle of screen
GoPro has more than one microphone at front. It's not good tutorial.
SO 7 min in your video and you still talking about Image, view, etc, settings...
Does not work 👎🏼
I do have a degree in cameras. I find your comment offensive!
