This song goes very deep. First, "schwarzer Mann" literally translated means black man, but the "schwarze Mann" is also the german version of the boogey man. When you listen to the song without the video, it seems to be simply about fear, maybe about the unknown in peticular. The video then gives it its depth as it shows typical german neighboursin their garden being happy and talking to each other.
But then over night, they go on the internet and get brainwashed (more or less literally) and the next day they don't trust each other anymore. And not just that, they build walls, surveil the others with cameras and even buy guns as protection against the others. In the mean time, Till, clearly mad, is taken to a podium and spreads his crazy believes. This is also reminsiscent of politicans giving speeches. The red cables take his message (or evil energy) to the others, you can even see the cables when they're looking at their computers. In their literal black and white they were manipulated by a maniac who sparked fear in them which makes them attack the others. But then, in the end, Till destroys the TV, the access to News, media, etc. and their views and the world around them literally becomes more colorful and diverse.
Finally, the band is eating Dickmanns in the end which were originally called Negerkuss (N**gerkiss), but got a new name a few years ago because of obvious reasons. Similarly, the kids game "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" (Who's afraid of the black man (boogey man)) was critisied for its name, but i think it hasn't been changed yet. So they also draw attention to the racism part of the topic. Not only because of the term "schwarzer Mann", but also because racism is a common consequence of the fear that media and the internet spread. The song is not a critic of the internet as a whole though, it just draws attention on how easy it is to get influenced and radicalised on the internet and also by the media in general. It also touches on the fact that some politicians use this to gain power.

Well said @MetroidJaeger it is the same in the Netherlands. This is not a racial but religious thing where dark and black are connected with the 'unspoken fear' and 'the Evil's' attributes. Sinterklaas (NL for Saint Nicolas) and Zwarte Piet (Black Peter) or the German Schwarzer Peter are remnants. And In Czechia in December Saint Nicholas is accompanied by a white Angel and black Devil (all played out by children) 'judging' children' behaviour and rewarding or punishing them.
Those are all remains of that time when religion added fear to the daily life.

Nah, it's a summary of the last two years, where practically 90% of the people have been radicalized against the 10% who won't fall for the spell, the government no longer needs direct surveillance when your neighbor would call the authorities on you for drinking a beer on your backyard...

This Song is not about Anger, its about Fear.
"Who's Afraid of the Boogeyman" is a game for Children in Germany. One is the Boogeyman and stands on one side, the Others are normal People. The Boogeyman asks, "Who is afraid of the Boogyman?" The other Children shout back "No one" and the Boogeyman asks "What if he comes?" - Children: "Then we run!". Then the Boogeyman runs towards the children and tries to catch one. Whoever is caught is also a Boogeyman and so on.
In Germany they don't say boogeyman, they say "Schwarzer Mann" which means "Black Man".
That means the lyrics of Rammstein are ambiguous.
Basically, the lyrics mean "Who is afraid of the stranger, of the foreigner?" The black people sit behind the barbed wire because the other people are afraid of them.
The song is about people letting television and the internet scare them. They build walls, arm themselves and distrust their neighbors.
At the end of the video, the band eats "foam kisses". In Germany these used to be called "NegerkĂŒsse" which means "Negro Kisses".

One note - you should turn on auto-translated English subtitles, these explain the lyrics quite well - and believe me, in Rammstein lyrics are very, very important!

I feel like it is the combination of how deep, almost rumbling his voice is with his incredible clear and expressive diction (is that the word I am looking for?). Let me give my thoughts on this:
    1. The song is about how certain "leaders" and media want to scare people to control them. In the video, this is visualised by the red wires, computer screens and TV. Also, the entertainig industry is helping (commercials, online shopping), represented by the cheerleaders.
    2. You can say that the world the people in this video are living in, is just black and white, no grey. It can be understood as a reference to the simple minded people who are for example voting for politicians who are telling them exactly this black/white view (WE are good, THEY are bad). Also, the band is dressed up as the stereotype of this kind of conservative people. Did you noticed that the world in the video changed to color when Till destroyed the TV?
    3. "Der schwarze Mann" (The black man) is a german synonym for a creepy, ghost-like evil. As in the first verse of the song, children are often told "to obey, or else the black man will get you". It can be translated to boogey man in english, but like often, there is another meaning in this context. As said, the video is about leaders who are seedeing fear of anything foreign in peoples minds. So, the phrase "black man" can also be interpreted literally, namely refugees. In my opinion, it is a reference to the migration crisis in 2015 in Germany,. Or just remember the plans for a wall on the Mexican border...
    Greetings from Germany!

It was great seeing the emotional journey you went on there, Beth. Fascination, horror, disgust, intrigue, awe, excitement... I don't think there's quite any band like Rammstein when it comes to the music and the visual package.

Finally a new Rammstein reaction! You should really react to more of their songs, also songs of Till Lindemann's side projects. I very highly recommend you to react to Till Lindemann's duett with Zaz called "Le Jardin Des Larmes".

I also read that in fearing something so much that you inadvertently become the thing you feared . Which does seem to fit with being fed fear, putting up walls and next thing you know your fighting with the neighbors and everyone . The fearful and paranoid masses become exactly that

The song is named Fear, and as I see it, it demonstrates how fear can turn happy suburban German men with white picket fences, lawns to mow, and BBQs into the sort of men who build walls, install cameras and barbed wire, and buy guns.. who then lose everything they used to value.

Angst literally means fear. Fear often manifests itself as anger. This often leads to people lashing out at that which they fear. Leaders, media, and disinformation often exploit the fears of people by pointing to a "boogeyman" that may or may not be fabricated for the masses to direct said fear in order to control them. That's the meaning I was able to glean from this song/video.
Beth, your channel is nothing like those dark places on the internet. You bring pure light and love in the form of music education. Keep up the good work!

Would love to see a reaction to the groups on The Stadium Tour. Co-headliners Def Leppard, and Motley Crue, along with Poison, and Joan Jett. Hell of a lot of history between them all. A lot of mixed phone footage out there at the moment but hopefully at some point (it’s a long tour) there will be some good recordings of all of them to compare.

Rammstein - Angst (English Translation) Lyrics
    [Intro]
    (You)
    (You)
    (You)
    (You)
    (You)
    (You)
    [Verse 1]
    When the children are ill-mannered
    The father already has threatened
"The Black Man, he'll get you
If you don't follow my commandment"
    [Pre-Chorus]
And we believe that to this day
So scared are the country and its people
    Something bad will happen
The evil comes, won't leave anymore
    [Chorus]
And the fear grows into the night
    Door and gates are guarded
The back's wet, the hands clammy
EvДryone is afraid of the Black Man
    [Post-Chorus]
    (You)
    [Verse 2]
In the dark, hĐ” sneaks up
If you're not good, he'll touch you
    Trust no stranger then
So much nightmare, so much craze
    [Pre-Chorus]
And so we believe to this day
    The pack is heavily armed
    Oh, they can't stop it
    Scream fire in the alleys
    [Chorus]
And the fear grows into the night
Not a wink of sleep at all
The back's wet, the hands clammy
Everyone is afraid of the Black Man
    [Post-Chorus]
    (You)
    (You)
    (You)
    [Bridge]
Who is afraid of the Black Man?
Who is afraid of the Black Man?
Who is afraid of the Black Man?
    Who is afraid?
    [Chorus]
And the fear grows into the night
Not a wink of sleep at all
The back's wet, the hands clammy
    Everyone is afraid
    [Outro]
    (You)
    (You) Black Man
    (You)
    (You) Black Man

It's been so long since German Expressionism was in vogue that it seems new and fresh here. I like this "Angst" video, but if you really want your mind blown watch the classic silent movie "Metropolis," which has the most awesome Art Deco sets. I also like the Expressionist film "The Red Shoes," which has sound and color, and features beautiful ballet superimposed on all kinds of weird.

It's about spreading fear to divide people. People isolating from each others. Etc. That's why so many people have mental problems and depression. We are socializing animals. We should be in the group. Do everything not to be alone.
