    Native German Speaker here
In the lyrics there is no indecision at all because in the lyrics is no "Yes and No" but only "No"
the verse is literally word by word:
You have me asked. (= German word order = broken down into You (Du), You have (Du hast), You have me (Du hast mich), You have me asked (Du hast mich gefragt) = basically "You have asked me"
And I said nothing. (meaning "I didn´t reply to your question")
the chorus is the church wedding vow which is asked by the priest to both of the couple seperately during the wedding ceremony directly before he declares the couple to be married - and - he answered the 2 questions of 1."eternal loyalty for the partner" 2 "eternal love for the partner" both with a clear "No" even twice 2 times (that´s very decisive and not indecisive..just saying)= basically he is blowing the wedding in front of the altar in the very last second.
So basically the song implies that the girl dragged him in front of the altar without having his consent and so he left her right there in front of the altar.
BUT there is an - auditive - word play in place in the first sentence by tricking the mind´s first thought in the way that sentence is performed...because as long as the in single words repeated broken down first sentence "You have asked me" isn´t finished with the last word "gefragt/asked" the sentence hasn´t the right context because it sounds as like as saying "You, You hate, You hate me" because "Du hast mich/You have me" and "Du hasst mich/You hate me" sounds exactly the same. (It´s kinda as like for instance saying in English "My, My deer, My deer has " but you very likely will mishear "My dear has" because it will be "your first thought" and only the last word will then reveal if it´s actually "dear" or actually "deer" by then finishing the sentence with the closing word "antlers" = that´s kinda how that worked with "Du hast")
But in the aftermath of the song the misheard "You hate me" - although it wasn´t said - gets context because of the following chorus because the chorus implies that he left her at the wedding ceremony which is for her very likely a huge embarrassment..and for doing that to her she might hate him now.
The open question is : Was he just mean...or... was he to such an extent under her thumb that only in the face of the altar he got finally his shit together and parted which he should have done way long ago.

I'm a fan since '97. The song that got me was "Engel"- Angel. It was such a unique sound. And they surprise and fascinate me to this day. Btw same lineup from the beginning.
What fascinates me are the lyrics (most, not all song). A lot of them have double meaning. Which is a result where all bandmembers grew up, in the GDR. Most lyrics are written in a poetry style and a some are quite heavy subjects, taboos in western societies. They took a lot of heat for that. Society doesn't want to be bothered with taboos. Curious to see, what you think about songs like "Wiener Blut"- Viennese blood (Josef Fritzl), 'Ich tu dir weh"- I hurt you or "Mein Teil- my part"(Armin Meiwes).
As well as lighter songs like "Seemann- Seaman" or "Frühling in Paris- spring in Paris", "Zeit-time".

So close, but it's not about "do I want to get married." It's about the the tense dynamics in an already existing relationship. Not a moment of indecision, but a cold fire. You see, du hast mich = you have me. Du hasst mich = you hate me. Pronunciation almost identical. You have me / you hate me. At the same time. And then you asked me and I said nothing. Do you want to be faithful, etc.
Having been in this exact relationship more than once, it rings very true. And you develop a kind of perverse male joy in pushing that button which is so paradoxical and so pointless. Oh, you have me. And you hate me. So what are you going to do about it? Oh, how do I feel about it? Rammstein is known for their suggestive lyrics. Yes it’s a song about wedding and vows, but the feel of the song suggests it’s not a positive song. It’s embodied in the wordplay of ‘you hate me’ which becomes ‘you asked me and I didn’t answer’. The lyrics don’t say much, but combined with the harsh industrial sound, the meaning of Rammstein songs has to be felt imo.

I saw Rammstein back in 1998 when they were touring America. I believe for the first time for this album.
It was an eclectic mishmash of artists but I went there specifically for Rammstein who if memory serves me correctly, played their set right before the headliners Korn.
That one song does not do them Justice in person. They are pyromaniacs or at least they were at the time from wearing a fire retardant trench coat while singing a ballad to actually pulling out a flamethrower and waving it out over the crowd and all the other pyrotechnics that you see in this video.
In 98 I was 22 and it was surreal seeing a band do this kind of stuff. I still remember the heat coming off of the stage curling my lashes LOL. And seeing the size of this crowd in Paris dwarfing the size of my stadium in my hometown probably by 10 or 20 times. The size was incredible but the audience was no less engaged
There have always been a couple songs on each album that have raised an eyebrow or created some sort of controversy or dialogue.
I love your channel. Love how you break down the songs with an authenticity, professionalism and empathy. Although this is a Rammstein video, I cannot wait to see you continue to go down the rabbit hole of Ren 🤘🥰 keep up the great work!

The funny thing is Du Hasst, live is probably their most tame live performance, aside from maybe Engel.
    Ooh and for a reccomendation
    Engel, Rammstein, live version
A quick side note, Till Lindeman, is probably one of the most interesting frontmen out there. He is not just the lead vocalist, but also the bands lead pyrotechnician. Beyond that, he is an artist, pure and simple, if you should choose to watch Engel, pay close attention to his persona on stage, even if you shut off the music and just watched the video of his performance i think you might fully understand what he ks trying to convey, it is a bit haunting, and it doesnt end when the song ends, even the way that he exits the stage fewls like he is still very much in character.

I saw these guys back in 2001-2002 in Hartford Connecticut. They were the opening act, second act System of a down when toxicity dropped, headliner was Slipknot. What an amazing show.
Also Rammstein's pyrotechnics were incredible, they had gasmasks with dildos attached to them that shot out a 20-30 foot flame of fire over the general admission crowd. Man what a show

When you get the chance, check out the piano version of "mein herz brennt"(spell check that) by Rammstein. Extremely powerful song, made even harder with the delicate undertones of the piano compared to the og version. Fun fact: The singer, Lindemann is a licensed pyrotechnician.

@HeartSupport There is a play on words that is clearly overlooked her, but you have to be quite fluent in German to hear it. "Du hast mich" can be heard both as "...you have me..." and "...you hate me..." and it is only when you hear the last part of the sentence you clearly hear the content "... you asked me... and I said nothing"

The original German wedding vows in a church is a question and answer ritual. In German "Willst du bis der Tod euch scheide, treue sein für alle Tage?".
Translated into English "Will you be faithful until Death do you part?" I hope I remembered the archaic or traditional English form correctly.
However, the Singer Till during the live version switches it up by exchanging two words that sound very similar. "Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide treue sein für alle Tage?"
In German using a minuscule s instead of a capital S switches "scheide" from "to part" or "to split" to "Scheide" which is literally a sheath or split. However it is the German medical term for a female 'split', a vagina. So here he is asking "Will you be faithful until the death of the vagina?" which certainly has significantly different connotations than the original.
There's a further double entendre. The original ritual poses the question to the spouse "Willst du sie lieben und ehren in guten wie in schlechten Tagen?". Translated this question is "Will you love and honor her in good days as well as in bad?" Again, my apologies for misremembering the exact English phrase.
However, Till asks "Willst du sie lieben auch in schlechten Tagen?" However, the usually fastidiously OCD Till when it comes to pronunciation here slurs it a bit, just enough to potentially mishear it as "an" instead "in". In which case the meaning in German changes from good or bad days to "bad days of her period". Because to "have your days" refers to having your period. What "bad days of a period" means should be self-explanatory for women.
Mind you, the ethereal female voice in the backgrounds always answers "yes" while the male chorus is always a very emphatic "NO!".
This dichotomy of different answers plus the German grammatical sentence structure makes this song's lyrics much more multi-dimensional than in English.
While the English translation isn't inherently wrong, it simply can't transport the multiple meanings both implied as well as intentionally changed of the German lyrics.

This is the right version to watch :)
As to my story, I'm willing to share. I am stuck, mostly by circumstance it seems, though. Back at the end of 2015, I was deeply suicidal, and nearly succeeded. I was engaged to a woman, and things were going badly on my side. That's an extremely long-story, but she lived 13k kilometers away, and we met when I was on vacation. Anyways. There was intervention on my attempt to put an end to myself by a friend who saw something I posted on FB. My memory of the events are fragmentary though. As is the next three and half to four years, little more maybe. It was around the start of 2020 when I was getting my memory back. There was anterograde amnesia that resulted from sleep medication I was taking, plus some retrograde amnesia from the depression. The combination kept me largely unable to function without some kind of supervision, for years. I wasn't approved by my psychiatrist to return to work until a year later though, after I'd completed a group-therapy course for anxiety. So at the beginning of 2021, I started trying to get a part-time job. I'm still looking, just over three years later.
Now, there is another consideration which has complicated my job-hunt, and kept me stuck. I'm my father's primary care-giver now. That started just after I got my memory back and became more functional, my sister got me to move back to my childhood home, that I couldn't get out of fast enough when I was old enough to, to look after our father. He's now 82 (I'm 56), and he has mobility problems, a pacemaker, and he's going blind with macular degeneration. A possible future for me, since it is something that runs in families.
My mental-health diagnosis only got more complicated as time went on, and my doctors saw more of me. So, at this time, I am diagnosed as being on the bi-polar spectrum, have PTSD, major depressive disorder (melancholic depression), persistent depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, claustrophobia and most recently, a little bit of agoraphobia. The only psychiatric medication I take is divalproex, which controls the bi-polar and keeps my mood pretty flat. I don't take medication for the anxiety, I prefer to know when I'm close to a panic-attack, and remove myself from the situation. I want to control it, not the other way around.
Now, I am still kind of nihilistic, and passive in my ideation, but I do still try and make some progress every day. I've never been terribly social, and now I'm more isolated than ever. But I'm often more comfortable being on my own. I do still consider finding some kind of job really important to my recovery though, and have been pursuing whatever I can find that I feel I can do. I keep telling myself that it's only a matter of time, but that is getting harder to say the longer it goes on. I do have hope that I can get into a program soon, with a 10-week placement, that at least might lead to something more permanent. Fingers crossed...

I've just stumbled upon your channel and it speaks to me, *_beyond_* the fact that I suffer from "Major Depression". This is a great twist on "Music Reaction" content, and I appreciate it! ♥️
As such, I have a big request...
To listen to *Nine Inch Nails* - _Something I Can Never Have_
Doesn't have to be a music video, can just be the Lyric video for the original...
BUT THEN, in the same session/video, follow it up by watching the video for version from the limited edition "Still" album. _(so it would be a double-header, sort of)_
That one is a semi-unplugged live recording from his (then) home studio... just him and his guitarist, but very personal, powerful, and emotional... at least in my opinion. 😊
NIN is another deep well to pull from, though, as the 90s and early-00s are his substance abuse years, which are full of painful yet beautifully written works. His magnum opus being _The Fragile_ album, which is a much more "ear friendly" album compared to works prior to that. _(he's a good friend of Maynard from Tool/APC/Puscifer, as they're very like minded)_
Anyways, thanks for what you're doing! ✌️♥️🤘
