Most metal sounds violent and dark to the untrained ear, but you've gotten the message they were trying to convey. It's not just about the anger inside, it's about the bigger picture. Metal is incredibly cathartic. The songs covering painful or taboo topics have saved lives, by letting the audience know they're not alone.

So many people don't understand why this kind of music just makes me smile and feel happy. A couple of days ago i showed "Bonebreaker" by Slaughter To Prevail to one of my very best friends and she was just scared and could not stand the aggression while i smiled the whole time.
This music is healing for me!

When I was stationed in Charleston, my guys always knew what kind of mood I was in by what was blaring out of my truck when I pulled up to the gate. If it was country, I wasn't happy. If it was metal, they knew I was in a great mood. Funny how that works

Corey (the lead singer) actually has a recorded therapy session. He's had a rough go of it and the music makes a lot sense hearing his story. He was basically dumped at one point during a party because he overdosed and the other people thought he was dead, the drop into the dumpster woke him up and allowed him to get help. I don't always agree with the bands choices but I respect the hell out of them

@heartsupport please do this, Linkin park and slipknot saved life, slipknot on a more hands on way, as I've been lucky enough to have known the guys in slipknot from back before they left Iowa. I haven't been able to reconnect with them in years, but I know that as long as they and I live, we have the improbable possibility to get together and catch up. But digressions aside I know that I need to find out your thoughts on Linkin Park and Chester, because I think it would benefit myself and others who use the music as a lifeline.

Metal music is actually very delightful and beneficial to listen to...both the instrumental portion and the lyrics. There are numerous metal bands that have very powerful lyrics and it can be a major stress reliever with whatever issue/s you're coping with. I've always listened to metal music since I was a teenager and IMO it is the most therapeutic way to clear your thoughts. It has tremendously helped me daily get through the hard times of a divorce.

From Micro: Thank you for sharing how this video and the analysis resonated with you. It's powerful how sometimes pieces of content like this can be the catharsis of emotions we've been holding within. It's like holding a mirror to our soul, and it feels good to give ourselves permission to let things out when it's needed. I hope that the tears brought relief to your heart. It sounds like you've been carrying a good amount of pain and overwhelm on your shoulders, and that it would be welcome to just have a space and times to *feel* and be just as you are, just as you need.
You're right, sometimes we have no ally but ourselves, which can feel like a curse and so very isolating. I know for me personally that a lot of hard seasons I've been through were also marked by a deep sense of loneliness. I wasn't necessarily alone on the paper, but the leap to take in order to reach out and say "I'm not okay" was terrifying. Not to mention all the fears of being misunderstood, and having to make someone see things the way you do, so they could hear you out properly, without judging. It's just hard to reach out sometimes, which is one reason more to be proud of yourself for sharing a bit of your voice here and how you've been feeling lately.
Rest assured that you are definitely not alone, no matter what struggle you've been facing. It's hard to learn to have a kind outlook on ourselves, even more challenging to maintain it over time. Many of us are on that path towards self-acceptance and self-love, but it surely takes a lot of time, patience, grace and unexpected detours to get there. It may feel like we're all on our individual roads, but through it all there are emotions and experiences that we collectively share. There's something reassuring in this thought and in knowing that we wouldn't be judged for feeling the way we do, no matter what.
I hope with all my heart that your wife and you will know seasons of joy, peace and relief very soon. If you would like to share more about what's been going on in your life, what resonates the most with you in this song, feel absolutely free to talk about it here. You're not alone, friend. I see you, and I'll be rooting for you. Hold fast.
      -Micro

First, I was drawn to you, I could feel you starting to get into it. I could see you feeling every cord, every hit, every lyric, which is unique in its authenticity. I loved that I could feel your real emotions through this video because most reaction videos are faked for likes & subscribes.
Second, I heard your words. Slipknot, since the first time I ever heard/seen them was in concert. I was hooked. They spoke to my soul that was in desperate need of "something," but although I heard the lyrics, understood and used them with my interpretation. I have never once had them broken down with such positivity & understanding. I'm in my late 40s and I've been listening to heavy metal for around 30 years of my life. Very few people understand the meaning behind the music and dismiss it as yelling, hate, devil worship, etc. The thing is there is a small genre of metal that is that but it's truly not what most people listen to. Most people are looking for the release of their anger in a positve force for good in us all and truely that is what most heavy metal is about. Slipknot, Korn, Godsmack, Linkin Park, Pantera, Ozzy, Black Label Soc, Metallica, Disturbed , etc I've seen them all live so many times I lost count. I honestly believe the music is what got me through a lot of the tough times in my life aside from talking to a trusted person who would listen. The thing is I've never actually heard someone analyze the lyrics until I stumbled on these videos! Love it please dont stop!

I played in metal and hardcore bands in the late 90's into the 2000's and can confirm that the unleashing of these feelings in music helped us as well as the audience. Nearly every show ended up with smiles and hugs after blowing off a bit of steam. They'd have a few drinks and talk about their lives and problems but at the end of the show I'd see happy, tired folks heading home to enjoy their weekend and tackle the week ahead like it was all worth it. You can't buy that kind of feeling; it made me try harder and harder.
Things seem less crazy and scary when you know you're not alone and there's someone out there who feels just like you.

Every time I meet another parent mourning their precious soul, I like to think there are angels loving our little ones and they are all able to join together and play and that they watch out for us.

      From taylor: @aaronkubat1243 My friend,
My heart aches for you. I imagine the grief feels overwhelming. This message is covered in loss, from your marriage, to your job and most painfully your sweet son. It's like you're laying down and every instance of grief is like a brick being added to your chest, it feels crushing, suffocating, and impossible to get out from underneath.
There are few things I know about grief and one of them is that reaching out for support is one of the best things you can do. You did that here, and I hope you will keep doing it as you're on your healing journey. You deserve to have support, whether it's a conversation or it's a friend sitting with you while you watch a movie. Inviting people into your pain will help you start to take the bricks off one by one.
I imagine that losing your son, especially after so much other loss, feels unbelievably crushing. There are some losses a parent should never have to experience, and my heart aches for all of the pain and complicated emotions you must be experiencing as you process this loss.
My hope is that you know you don't have to do this alone, and that you continue to reach out like you did here. Sending love

I remember reading an article explaining how music, especially metal, is incredibly therapeutic when it comes to mental health. It’s like the release valve when the pressure builds up. Watching the likes of classically trained musicians react to the likes of Slipknot you get a sense that the musical complexity as well as lyrical themes is way more complex than the stereotype. I know when I need to get stuff done and barring air guitar or air drum fills, it gets done in style!

I've watched two of your videos... Slipknot has been a life long LOVE of mine. They are the soundtrack to my life. This life, like everyone else's, has been full of highs and lows. As a 35+ man, my life is NOWHERE where I'd hope it would be, with surmounting issues that just beat you down. People tell me I'm hard on myself, repeatedly. Every time my response is, "If only you heard what I say to myself in my head..". I don't know how to stop, I don't know sometimes how to stop hating myself. I know steps that I can take, but every mistake along the way is like a knife stab to the guy, it's demoralizing and sends you into a downward spiral.
This is more than I'm sure ANYONE cares to hear, however I've considered seeking therapy lately, and every sentence that came out of your mouth while watching this resonated SOOOO hard with me you put me in tears throughout this whole video. I've heard this song 10,000 times and never once listened to it like you just showed me how to. I need to find a way to beat this horrible, demeaning and insulting voice in my head and strangely you may have just given me an anthem. A reminder when I listen to it, not as a jam I love but something motivating.
I truly feel like I just got a fantastic 10 minute session with a therapist, who said what I needed to hear form someone who has an true understanding how my mind might work, not just me and my suspicions and Dr. Google research. Thanks for your comments on this. You've got a new subscriber! :)

      From ThriceTheThird: Hello!
I'm 36 and did not find my path in life until I was around 33. After much painstaking work, and therapy. I am glad that you have found something that resonates with how you feel through HeartSupport's content. It is not more than ANYONE at HS cares to hear. We love to hear what you are going through, because we know that letting it out is a powerful form of relief. Therapy is healthy when you are ready for it. I think that a big thing about the hiccups you discussed. The making mistakes along the way, and them being like knife stabs. I think that every small bit of progress is good progress. 1% improvements Daily compound into much larger improvement over a year. I read a book that greatly helped me with my ability to see the weight of small improvements over long periods of time. Called The Atomic Habits, By James Clear. I would highly recommend the audio book, as the author reads it himself. Get all of his tone and passion. The thing I have found that most helps me when I have hiccups in my growth, is to remember all the compounding interest of the growth that I have already achieved in myself. If you ever need to share more, to let the demeaning voice in your head have space to live in, so that it doesn't fester inside you. Please feel free to do so. <3 I hope you find relief to what you are experiencing.

      @HeartSupport  Před 4 měsíci +1

From Micro: Thank you for sharing your experience here. I don’t know for others, but I truly appreciate when someone opens up about their mental health journey, especially when it comes down to the things we don’t see or know unless we talk about it. This inner dialogue you’ve been having, this repeated hate for yourself and somehow self-sabotage, is something I deeply relate to. Even though I’m not happy for you to experience any of this, I’m thankful you’ve decided to share it. There is something comforting in knowing that we are not alone in our struggles. Even if it doesn’t provide any solution, it’s an important reminder of our own humanity. And when we’re used to be unkind with ourselves, it puts perspective over the fact that *we* are not the problem… We just learned to see ourselves a certain way. You are not broken, it’s the discourse within that isn’t serving you.
Thankfully though, what is learned can be unlearned, even if in a lot of cases it has to be a slow process that tests our patience. As you said so well, it feels like it takes a tremendous effort to take two steps forward, and it’s hard to celebrate them as actual progress. On the contrary, the first error or failure along the way holds the potential to make us move backwards immediately. There are times when this dynamic feels completely hopeless. Although there may be a good part of *perception* there that needs to be reshaped too, as in the end the way we feel is valid but remains an interpretation too. Learning to replace facts where they are, cherishing the present and actual victories may be a fundamental asset to learn again, even if it’s now as grown adults.
We don’t know each other, but I’m personally proud of you for considering therapy as a future step. I’m 30 and only accepted to try it out a couple of years ago, after spending most of my life utterly depressed and eaten by anxiety. Truth be told, this step was fucking scary, and it took several attempts to find the right therapist for me… but it was all so worth it. Just the possibility of finally having a space where you can share all of this inner world, all that makes you feel alone and somehow broken, without any judgment in return, is absolutely priceless.
May the steps forward be fulfilling and leads you a path towards healing. You understand yourself well, you know what doesn’t serve you, now may be the time to start being actively supported in practicing the change of narrative that needs to happen within. You are not doomed to be your very own enemy. Taking care of yourself, seeking help and attending your needs will be active steps towards learning to be a supportive friend to yourself. And that’s the most significant rebellion you can manifest against the self-deprecative voice inside! It did its time, and it may still be present out of habit. But there is an entire world out there available for you, in which you won’t have to diminish yourself over and over. You got this, friend.

You gained a fan in me with this reaction. One, not only were you intensly in to the music (it is an intense song!). But two, you immediately got the message! Unless you did several takes, LOL. But I would guess that is not the case. I do have a war in my head. Old me (from 25+ years ago) vs. new me (since discovering the love of my life 16+ years ago). We can thank current society and a couple isolated icidents for causing old me to stirr recently. But, I have been working hard to "beat him back to slumber". This song helps me cope daily!

I've read somewhere about how the relief and great feeling metalheads got when listening to metal music is similiar to what classical music listener experienced and I think it's so neat! I am also a fan of classical music and have always thought these two genres actually have more in common than we thought.

I've been a metal head most my life. This is the first reaction I have seen you do. You are very in tune with this song. Great breakdown. Not trying to start a debate but there is prejudice that exists about people that listen to "metal music". You have shown that this song is just another way to articulate a personal story that is not outside the social norm. I'm not trying to be personal, but you do not appear to be a person that listens to "metal music." By me saying that, I believe that we all, including myself, prejudge people before we understand the message or the person. We all don't take it to extremes, however. Bravo! I feel you gave a grate reaction to this, and I hope many more in the future. Your target audience is spot on in my opinion. You know what I'm saying without saying it. Great work!
