- We first watched JAY FAI on the Netflix Series called "Street Food." As soon as we saw her serving up the huge CRAB OMELET on the streets of BANGKOK, we knew we had to go! One of the reasons why Jay Fai is expensive it is because she uses very high quality seafood!!!!
Really really good to know and it makes total sense because that crab omelette was out of this world!
The portions are big too. Ther'es a lot of crab meat in that omelette

I went there 4 years ago and it was way more chilled and full of locals. Now its packed with tourists taking photos and a lineup to get in. Netflix has ruined this place lol.

Awww James! Thanks so much! Well worth it! Actually we didn’t have to wait at her restaurant for 5 hours so we were able to leave and adventure for a little. Our name was on a waiting list that we wrote down at 8am that day!
I remember her from Mark Wein's video in 2017. She didn't have this much people in her restaurant.
Netflix just made a show and she's in it. I think that's why she's so famous now. That and probably because of mark also
She isn't much popular at that time due to how expensive her restaurant is, but people start curious about her legendary dish and visit her store until she got her michellin star.
it start from "the absurbly expensive crab omelette ever!" trend in Thai social media that end up boost her popularity
Around 2017 some people still mock her expensive crab omelette and said it isn't that hard dish to do but they soon realize how wrong they're... as those who actually experience the dish give a very positive response.

Her food is fantastic. But one correction, she is not the only street food Michelin star in the world, only Thailand. There are two 1 star street food places in Singapore.

Foreigners and tourist love that place. But a lot of actual Thais that have eaten there say it's just ok...overpriced for it. Not talking about the youtubers trying to promote the place. So for tourists, yeah it's worth it. But for Thai locals and for a Thai person like myself who travels there yearly...nope not worth it. There's another place just as good, with large portions for a fraction of the price. No Michelin star needed.

I’m Thai and never been there. one thing you need to know is JAY FAI never increase the price because of her fame. Back at about 10 years ago before social media, there was a news on the Thai TV that report about Jay Fai restaurant because of overpriced. She said she use only premium things to cook.

I ate there when she was not famous. I went randomly with my sister snd her friends. It was really expensive for Thai standard but the seafood quality and quantity was amazing. I remembered having gravy rice noodle with big prawn for 250฿ and that was nearly 10 years ago. I’m sure this price today will get me half a portion lol. Honestly, the highlight of this place is the quality of seafood but the taste is pretty much average, nothing special to me. I’m sure your food at Mahidol would taste as good or better and probably 5 times cheaper lol.
Definitely 5 times cheaper 🤣 but we've never had anything like her crab roll before! We would go back for it, we loved it! Mahidol definitely has incredible food though.

Yes but she has a Michelin Star!! A gordan Ramsay burger costs $150 so I think $30 is fine with that kind of status!
