Shout out to Ying. Her talented photography and good nature may be in the background but are ever present. Her speaking with Jay Fai was an example of why she and Mark are so well thought of around the world. And although she didn't have Micah with her today, you can see how much of a devoted and kind mother she is to him. It can't be easy taking a baby/toddler around the world. Carrying him through streets and alleyways. Most women would never think of doing anything like that. She is a huge part of the success of these CZcams channels.

We were there the 24/02/23. To eat at 12.30 you have to queue at 7:30. You order outside while standing some minutes before they let you enter inside. If you take big bottle of water they don't bring you glasses but just a straw( we were 2 people). If you want glasses you have to pay for glasses with ice (no top service if you consider that you pay one omelette almost 30$). The staff is not really nice and friendly. Most of the things are similar to other street food-restaurant in Bangkok and Thailand. For what concerns the food the omelette was good( 7/10 I would take it again for max 15$), the dry Tom-yum was nothing special (6/10, I wouldn't take it again), the sefood Padthai was inadequate (5/10) there are places in Bangkok where they do it much much better for much much less in terms of prices.
To conclude, if you were my friend I will suggest you to save your money for other unforgettable experiences:)

Especially when she takes the time to converse and laugh with her customers....NOW THAT'S PRICELESS!! The flavour in the soup was fabulous and the prawns perfectly cooked. It's almost impossible to describe how good the omlette is. Full of succlent crab and not at all oily. Jay Fai herself never stopped cooking from the moment I arrived until I left. I've no idea where she gets the stamina from.

In the west we dont question thing like Japanese sushi/wagyu beef or korean bbq/ hanwoo beef for a reason. Their currency is near equal value to ours in the sense that the average meal would cost 10,000 yen/won which is about $10. In countries like thailand or the philippines, you can get good food the price of $1 american. Foreigners and even locals get used to paying little for good food so when a restaurant bumps its price it's hated on. I cant really convey what im trying to say very well but i think you get the point.

Hey Mark, firstly, absolutely love your videos. I showed this video of Jay Fai to my partner, who by the way was drooling whilst watching lol. So we were heading off to Thailand first week in February with family. My partner asked (well actually, NAGGED) me to get a reservation there. Two weeks before week left Australia I made a reservation. Obviously our family did advise us that by Thai standards this place was pretty pricey. So on our second day in Bangkok we head over to Jay Fai. Luckily I booked 2 weeks ahead. First customers in the door....... OMG, on behalf of my partner and I thanks for putting this video up. This would have to have been the BEST crab omelette ever. We headed off to spend the rest of our time with family in our most favourite place in the world Chiangmai, where we pretty much spent our whole time with our nephew and his wife eating. I would love to show you some photos of sensational places we ate at. Thanks for the great work you do.

eksine For Thai people most delicious food doesn’t need to belong to 5 stars restaurant with aircon but the street food restaurant that run for 5-10 decades will be the most delicious 😋 🤤 I know Total price is expensive but don’t forget the price is for 2 persons, I don’t think you can finish those dishes alone. Those dishes are actually good for 2-4 persons. Thai people would order those dishes when you hangout with friends or family so you can order many different dishes. For 2 average persons you can order just that 1 dish of crab 🦀 omelette with 2 cups of rice and you will be full enough. Give it a try. (Quality and premium Thai food is always expensive ofc it’s for middle class above) Btw she uses the premium ingredients and seafood. The price is reasonable and you need to book 1-2 days ahead to eat her food in peak time and need to wait for a couple hours for cooking. (In this clip he come early I guess)

Mark's review is spot on, even down to his comments on traffic in Bangkok.
After waiting 6 hours for a table, I was excited to live out my Netflix dreams of eating at Jay Fai.
To make a long story, her food was indeed good, very good, but at the end of the day, over-rated once you factor in the outrageous price vs. where else you can eat in Bangkok.
Jay Fai was indeed impressive as she was cooking there all day in the heat non-stop and every dish came out looking like it was ready to be on the cover of a food magazine.
After looking at her menu, besides a handful of her signature dishes which she could justify her lofty prices, everything else was just really, really expensive stir fry at literally 5x the price.
Not hating....just telling the reality to potential Jay Fai fans.

I admit that it is a daunting task for Mark (being a one man production team) to generate his travel and food vlogs twice a week. I have been watching Mark (as I stated in my previous comment) for a couple of years now. Before he reached a million fans I found the pace and frequency of his videos to flow well and they held my interest as I was very entertained and educated by them. As of late (with the addition of his two other channels he recently added) the flow is being broken up and fragmented to my chagrin. What I mean is the old format of visiting one country and posting a number of sequential daily videos was easy on the eye and mind. As of late Mark has been jumping from one location to another, posting one video here and another there which I find disconcerting. I realize that this new program platform (CZcams) is in it infancy and with time the cream of the crop will figure out which style and formats work best. In all actuality it is no different from what goes on in the production offices of the major networks but without the committees. Just as I have grown tired of Parts Unknown because Anthony has slipped into an overly slick and overly produced program format. I would wish Mark would see his videos as postcards from a friend to a friend, kept on a human scale and targeted to a narrow but large audience of like minds. Cheap travels, good food finds and a wholesomeness that transcends the medium. I do not find the Food Ranger or the Dumpling guy to be on the same level as Mark. Mark is Mark because of his quirkiness and that certain charisma his possesses. I hope he evolves his channel with thoughtfulness and reflects on his success and how he got to where he is today.

When anyone, including other F/A's who thought I was crazy - they didn't want to be in the air on their days off - scoffed at me, I always told them "I travel to eat!" More than anything I LOVED to try foreign food - and I did. Around the world several times - as important to seeing the world was to eat the food! And yes, I've eaten all kinds of things most would stick up their nose at or just 'throw up' thinking about.
The last Thai restaurant I ate at in the US, I told them to make it "Thai style hot" & of course had to repeat it because they didn't believe me. A now old lady taking her 90 something mother out to eat! Well, after they brought the meal, my mother who was sitting facing the entry to the kitchen, told me it looked like the entire kitchen staff were peeking out to see if I was eating it. I'm sure there was total disbelief but the dishwasher saw the end result - almost didn't have to wash it cus I licked it clean! Ha! Ha!
Oh! to be young again! Keep it up - I love how happy you look eating something different! For those who want to try it - the trick is: Don't anticipate what it might taste like! Let it be a surprise for your taste buds.

Hoky Poky beautiful story! I absolutely agree with you about traveling to eat. I wish I could afford to go to all the places I want to.. maybe one day. If not I’ll try to do at least a few. Food rocks!
      Blessing to you.

Hi Mark, I'm going to assume it was $72.32 for two people. With the huge portions of crab and shrimp, it was worth it!

Not really. For a street food vendor in Thai, that's expensive. Mark is honestly blown away by the omelette, but not with the other dishes. I bet hes not going to come back again. For the omelette? maybe.. but for the soup and noodles? dont think so~

Forget about Thailand. How often do you spend $36 for one meal in your own country?? That's expensive!

      @drunkenek Před 6 lety +2

I’m in the US. $72.32 is really normal for two people to spend at a restaurant, but add all that crab and jumbo prawns the bill will easily be over $100. So she’s charging a reasonable price for the ingredients.

You can't be overrated if you have a Michelin star. As for the expensive part, that's different story, but overrated no.

Illyrus Emperor There are plenty of overrated Michelin restaurants. 50% of the time I find Michelin spots are tourist traps. I just got back from Hong Kong and ate at both Yat Lok and Tim Ho Won. Yat Lok I believe has a Michelin star 4 years in a row. The food was mediocre. We ordered the goose, which was good 7.5/10 for me, and the Cha sui pork. The pork tasted weird and was about to spoil. Tim ho wan was also okay. The BBQ pork buns it's known for are very good, but not so fantastic and life changing everyone says it is. The rest of the dim sum isn't any better then what I can get here in the Bay Area.
The stuff you see on CZcams when you travel is very misleading. We also went to Australian Dairy Co. the line was full of tourist and the service was worse then what I get at McDonald's. The best Michelin spot we ate at the whole time was Mamy waffles ($3 eggettes) Go figure. 😕

You can't say it expensive if you can't find it anywhere else.
