- This is the main reason I wear the outfits that say BLIND SURFER on them. True there are rules to surfing as there are to many things out there but some surfers take these rules WAY too seriously and get all kinds of agro and angry if the rules are broken. This is a story of what happened just about a hundred yards away from me this weekend.

Jesus. That’s attempted murder, hope the dude gets charged. People take stuff way too seriously sometimes.
Having spent most of my life living on the East Coast and not knowing anything about Surfing… I never would've guessed how crazy the people can get out there. I always thought surfers were these laid-back chill people. In reality though, things like this happen all the time. It's not
For real, we surfers on the East Coast are chill we seek each other out
@@BlindSurfermaybe the guy came to de-stress on the waves, but hasn't had the time to do so before his wave was "stolen"....

I hope that surfer is okay and that other guy went to jail
Just what I was thinking! Hope they pressed charges bc that’s just intolerable behavior; immature.
All jail does in the U.S. is make people angrier. If they really don't think what they did was wrong then they're going to feel unjust and that the world is out to get them. If they do have guilt, then they would already be trying to change themselves and would be more prepared for therapy and/or other resources that aren't available in a prison who's guards have no dignity for a man who's willing to change.
@@thattransgirl2192I’d rather see the psychos-paths away from society if they ain’t gonna better then selfs might aswell keep them away from people.
@@Whybother99 if they were going to better themselves then they don't need a prison. The concept of a punishment is to enforce a lesson and people's personalities tend to be fairly malleable while in close quarters/communication; what lessons could a psychopath possibly learn from a facility full of other psycho's?
How does it make sense to take someone who doesn't think what they did was wrong and hurt them? From their perspective it really is for nothing and society only wants to see them suffer. Do you really expect someone to change for the better while they're sulking?
@@thattransgirl2192 that’s why I said if they are not going to better themselves. We can’t have people who are willing to hurt people running around with no consequences.
If you wear a blindfold that would fix the issue of people not reading the shirt or wetsuit text
THIS is my favourite comment
Not practical probably-
But it'll TOTALLY LOOK SO BADASS
I cannot explain this at all it just will😂
Although this is a good idea, this only works for those who are completely blind, which is approximately only 15% of all visually impaired. Don't forget that not everyone is completely blind, and often have limited vision, or can detect lights and colors.
Nah fr@@NotWithThatAttitude, seeing some blindfolded dude just riding a wave would hit different. :')
Omg this might be the brightest in your face idea yet. Either they will think you are an ultimate at the task at hand or actually understand the situation 👌
Never don't go full Dare Devil
And the inevitable interaction will be
"What are you, blind"

better: makes a very slow and obvious look down to the “Blind Surfer” shirt he’s wearing and back to the aggressor, “Are you?”
(y’know, the sort of looking where you expect the other person to follow your eyes, not where you’re actually trying to see what you’re looking at)
yall gatekeeping water now? 💀
This has been a thing in surfing since it came to Western culture. A quick explanation is that if you're closest to where the wave is breaking, it's your wave. It helps prevent people dropping in front of others which is dangerous.
Having a system of etiquette can help avoid situations like this but some people take it way too far. It's not as bad as it used to be though.
@@jotarokujo3603sounds like a pretty sad excuse for a sport 🤣 the community doesnt want anyone else trying it.
@@jotarokujo3603so that gives clearnace to try and kill someone?
You guys aren't wrong at all. Toxic surf culture and overreacting keep a lot of people away from the sport, which is absolutely awful.
There is a purpose to this particular "rule," and it makes a lot of sense. The issue has always been the toxic culture and excessive reactions. I personally think it's gotten a lot better over the years. Surfers these days are way more likely to explain things to newcomers and realise that it's an intimidating sport to get into.
@bananaman4613 Nobody should ever go that far, I wish I could say that this is the first I've heard of things going that far.
I understand the frustration since dropping in on someone else really is quite dangerous, but it should be explained to newcomers rather than enforced with violence.
Like I said before, things aren't as wild as they used to be, but clearly, there are still pockets of idiots who think they need to be a tough guy in the water.
Aggression like that is beyond the pale. It may be a regular thing, but it needs to be treated as though it's not...like call the cops to make it less likely to happen again.
I'd hate to accidentally cut off that surfer on the road.
Fuck surfers
Don't worry, once on the open road the aggrivous surfus becomes very docile.
Get off my wave karen
@@joedontrun2229don't attempt murder, Kyle.
@strixx_1716 that's Kyler with an I hahaha
The worst part is that somebody who reacts like that over something as unimportant (in the grand scheme of life), probably isn't going to let a silly little thing like your blindness stop them treating you the same way if you were to inadvertently take "their" want 😞

It's cuz we teach women how to stay safe from people like yelling "fire" instead of the r word or help, or learning how to carry your keys in your hand, and we're not teaching men to not be c----. White block writing on black background is the most effective presentation .
Simple and not complicated. Odd fact i learnt from marketing course! Thats why a lot of places have black boards with plain white writing on!
Psychologically our brain processes it the easiest!❤
Thats why green is a popular choice of colour in packaging, its the most appealing colour!
it’s just a wave, it’s not that deep.

😂😂 good pun
Maybe it was a deeper than usual wave 😂. Some people are crazy and can hurt others for the stupidest reasons. People have been killed for cutting someone of in traffic (without causing an accident).

If the "Blind Surfer" shirts aren't doing the job, it may be time to switch to the neon orange reflective vests that road crews wear.
Damn. Ouch. Non proportional response. Good thing you run with an epic posse that wouldn’t let that happen. But if it did… you let me know… I’d be taking a trip to the beach. Show em what a donkey kicking looks like. Got you brother
a donkey kick sounds worse than a donkey punch. Or....well.....now I'm not sure. Both sound pretty rough. But yeah, we basically just try to steer clear of the crowds so there is no chance this will happen.

@@BlindSurferhallo
I think he means the yellow armband with three black dots that blind people can wear on the upper arm as an identification mark
Is there a standard universal label or branding that indicates a person is blind? I'm thinking about how wearing a bright orange hat while hunting helps identify hunters in the woods.
Just brainstorming here
Also, to me, the font on your blind surfer gear comes across as more "fun" than "hey I need you to look out for me." The placement of the text on many of your shirts is more at your belly, but maybe it should be closer to the neckline to make it easier to read when you're in the water.
Universal symbols like a bright yellow triangle yield or even a stop sign on your clothing might be better at communicating that we need to pay better attention when surfing around you.
And bright safety orange contrasts the best against a blue ocean.
Not trying to put a burden on you, genuinely trying to think of ways to help.
I appreciate your videos so much and have learned to be more mindful of people who are blind in My community.
No universal symbol except for the white cane that you obviously can't take on the water. It's a good idea. Something that you see and immediately register as "this person us blind" or even just "this person is disabled" is a great idea.
A common symbol is wearing large blacked out sunglasses, but again, hard to do while surfing.
Hi Pete,
I realy like like youre Videos, bunt everytime you talk about your blind surfer shirt or swimmsuit i think the same thing. Do you not have the "blind" symbol in the US? I am from germany and here blind people usually wear that symbol. It is three black dots arranged in a triangle pointing down on a yellow background.
I have seen it being worn as a sash or as a button. And a yellow sash realy stands out. So when i am driving a car, i can see it from hundrets of meters away and be aware of the blind person. Or even with the Button. If a blind person is near me in a crowdet area I can see the button und know to give that person more space when walking past them instead of expecting us both to take a halve step to the side.
The symbol is just more visible und clear with one view than having to read something.
But it whould only work if the people around you know the symbol.
that is not a "thing" here
@@BlindSurfermaybe we need to petition for it🧐🧐🧐

Not surprising . I lived in San Diego county for around 40 years and know that some surfers are quite territorial and get unpleasant if you hapoen upon their turf.

“You didn’t see me that was my wave!” Acculy no . Best answer. And that is so cool you can keep on enjoying the surf

The waves belong to sea, which is what I was taught when I learned to surf living in Hana, Maui, as a kid. But I learned quickly that the waves may belong to the sea, but people care not for the ocean and her waves, only what they perceive as theirs. Sad really, but maybe the sea will remind them it is not their wave one day.
Yes, I had wave issues, and yes, people fought, but we also respected the water, which gave us our waves. Maybe it was different when I learned who knows.
Some people are insane!
When he said, 'Hey! You took my wave!' he sounded a lot like the LEGO sfx guy, didn't he??

That’s the most creative way I’ve heard of attempt at murder and ngl I laughed. Very serious, but it was kind of funny since we all did this as kids and nearly chopped our own heads off 😅
Up here, I've seen surfers throwing punches at each other IN THE WATER for snaking a wave in Santa Cruz! That's why I bypass the jetks in that area and only surf in Half Moon Bay. Much longer waves, we all have almost a hippie vibe and always watch each other for safety (mainly from Mr. White). Waves are so long up here in HMB that there's no reason for a line up. #StaySafe #BlindSurfer ❤
