The Ti 84 had actually quite a beefy processor. It's just that it's clocked extremely slowly so that the power draw will be minimum.

I actually have an 84 plus silver edition that I keep in my regular calculator rotation. I had an 85 in middle school (was in the gifted programme). In high school, I switched to HP and RPN calculators, including the 32Sii (before it was discontinued) and the 48G. In college, I mainly used RPN calculators, and briefly tried to get into Casios, which I recognised as having lots of technical advantages, but was unable to motivate myself past the learning curve (it's easier in high school when you have only one maths course at a time and lots of free time to be creative with how you do your homework). When I started studying to be a maths teacher, I got an 84 because the students were using TI and I decided that I should be on board with them.
I was never successful as a math teacher (classroom management issues) but I did tutor for about a decade and used the 84 for that. I still keep it among the other calculators at my desk and grab it depending on the type of calculation that I want to perform.

It would be cool if you got an TI nspire calculator, and overlooked it. You can cool it using a thermoelectric cooler, and add a heatsink. At the bottom if the calculator, there are multiple pins for battery add-ons, and you could modify one to use it to power the thermoelectric cooler, and add a way to power the calculator at the same time so the battery doesn't die from overclocking. Overclocking can be done using programs that can be installed.

Unfortunately the bottleneck on TI calculators is not the processor but the slow LCD screen driver, as it needs a delay of ~60 clock cycles between each byte (8 pixels) written. The OS's display system calls make this even slower by relying on the separate 140Hz clock interrupt to write to the screen safely. Worse still, TI-Basic (which the Doom port is written in) doesnt support screen buffering, so every block of text and line is displayed with a separate display call. You can overclock the Z80 cpu all you want but it will never hold a candle to a Doom port written in assembly using low-level output instead of system calls.
Would be interesting to try and speed up the clock interrupt though as that would also make the cursor blink faster.

Also since I had a site which had all 1/0 permutations explained what they do (to what frequency or to what voltage specific configuration leads) and I didn't want to use massive pistol shaped (and sized) soldering tool I soldered tiny cables instead and on other side I had switches. Since transistor was 0 and no transistor was 1 I could just flip the switch to change that.
Turns out 400MHz PowerPC could reach even 933MHz. Unfortunately along with baking itself to death after 10 minutes of playing Quake, because cooling wasn't prepared for this.

That multimeter is designed more for electrical work rather than electronics. It has neither milli nor microamp ranges. It works great for wiring a building and is even advertised as an electrician's multimeter. You should use a model that is a little more high-end for electronics applications. Fluke specs the 117 DCI measurement at +/- 1% of reading plus 3 counts. This means that your 0.013 DC Amps reading is, in fact, likely anywhere between 0.010 and 0.016 Amps DC.
