  • The end of winter is coming so I am under pressure to get the remainder of my tree's cut from the root before sap rises. The weather is unpredictable so I have to walk in miles and I have chainsaw breakages so just another season in this harsh landscape of northern Europe.
    I am felling a mixture of Pine, Fir and Birch on 4 different properties and I must be finished before the end of the week.

    Thank you Simon for another enthralling video! I learned something…..the tree sap causes the snow to melt round the trunk as the temperature of the trunk increases! Fascinating to say the very least. Now it’s looking forward to the snow melt so you can take in the machinery to remove the logs.
    It brings so much joy to watch Kasper having fun….just pushing the ice sheet in the early part of the video with his front paws like he’s going to toboggan was priceless. What a joy he is. Wishing you and the family a fantastic weekend and a wonderful week ahead. ❤️🇦🇺🇸🇪

      Thank you Anne, I am so pleased Kasper brings you joy. He is so funny and happy. He just loves to be out with me more so now it is not cold for him at all. Our best wishes to you.

    Hi Simon and thank you for another interresting video, showing your daily struggle and work. When it comes to the wolves, Scandinavian wolves are not dangerous to humans at all. They are quite small, and not so many in a herd. They can be a danger to dogs of course, but not humans. Bears can be dangerous, especially a mother with a cub, otherwise they almost never attack people. Lynx which we also have in our forest can be dangerous to small dogs, but not to humans. So' the most dangerous animal we have in Scnadinavian forest is the moose. They can be agressive and attack both people and dogs. Anyway, take care and I look forward to your next video. Greetings from Norway. Asle

      Thank you and agree with you mostly, we seem to have had many bear attacks locally the last 5 years. I know the Moose attacks and kills more people than the bear. I have had several very close encounters with both and as yet neither have been very aggressive so better to be aware and we all live together without any killing. Always on edge in the spring when everything is hungry. Take care Asle.

    Howdy Simon- do you ever get a break to rest? A person who isn’t afraid to work will always have something to do and will stay busy. Young people could learn a lesson in this. Hope all is well. God bless

      Hello Paul, plenty of time to rest when I am dead. But until then I am not working such long days, I am finding the 14-16 hours days have left me and been replaced with a steady 8-10. Soon be time for fishing and I can enjoy the river. All is well thank you. Take care my friend.

    Hello ole boy! Your bundled up and I'm debating whether to get more done in the yard or hit the woods in search of morel mushrooms.
    We enjoyed a nice big meal of them last week that we found in the front yard! I see folks selling them for $60 a pound currently.
    Hope all are well and remember to stoke the fire. I'll finish watching tonight. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate ya!!

    Hi Simon and family.when I say family Casper is for sure included❤.is the land around were you are mostly private or forestry owned or government owned just wondering ❤😊

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Scott, it is a mixture or all of them although not much state owned land. Large forestry will buy anything they can get their hands on. The main thing is the replanting is greater than the harvesting so long may that continue.

    Would you agree with me anything to do with felling timber is enjoyable but hard work
    Are you aloud to carry anything for self defence against bears 🐻
    Really enjoyed the video keep up the good work cheers 👍🌲🌲

      I agree entirely, I enjoy every aspect of it but it does wear hard on me body. You can have mace or bear spray or firearms. Bear attacks are not uncommon in these parts given the number of humans which is very low. I personally have had only one bad experiences with bear here and had a few close encounters but this time of year is very risky. I have had more encounters with moose and again only one bad experience. Thanks Terry enjoy your weekend.

    Evenin' Simon.. I have a question.. when you are calling trees Fir.. do you mean Spruce? I didn't know Fir grew in our area.. it is a species of tree not to fond of the harsh cold we have every winter. I know it has been planted in the most southerly parts of Norway where the climate is warmer. Hope you guys are doing good, and that you'll have a great weekend😄

    • @arctic-rebel
      @arctic-rebel  Před 3 měsíci

      You are correct it is spruce to be exact, I apologize for any confusion.
      We are all great thanks and you also have a great weekend.

      @@arctic-rebel No apology called for, I was just curious if it really was Fir growing in your area, we have some weird species growing here which shouldn't be here at all, so nothing is impossible🙂 Our neighbor planted what he thought was a funny looking birch, but it turned out to be a type of Acacia. It's growing.. somewhat slow, but still. Nature's funny that way😃
