Plumber came out yesterday as toilet overflow was pouring down the outside wall. All he did was turn the wheel at the end of the float arm to tighten it. And was gone in under 2 minutes. This is now plumber number 4 and each time there is an issue. Now the flush on the toilet is less. But it’s not pouring outside anymore. He didn’t replace anything and didn’t take it apart. Not happy. Waited in all day. For that. No doubt someone else will have to come out. I’m learning the hard way.
The quick escape artist, adjust the water level lower so the overflow stops but then your flush is not flushing the amount of water it was before.
This video just saved me the stress I've been battling with for over 2hrs
No problem Steve.
nearly 8 years since this vid was made, and let me just say that it helped me to fix my issue... thanks a lot!
Plumbing is timeless.
I find your videos very enjoyable and informative. You give clear and easy-to-follow instruction, which as a novice I require. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
Top man ! Had to replace the bottom entry inlet last year and noticed not too long after it was leaking water back into the back of the bowl. Put it off u till my workmate told me he'd had a massive water bill due to a similar problem. Just taken ballcock apart and the high pressure seating dropped out, didn't know which way it qas supposed to go back in. Quick search brought up this video and now its back in the correct position. I'd originally installed it in the wrong way round. Thanks fella. No nonsense video 👍🏻
Thanks.
Just what I needed - many thanks!
There's no job more satisfying than repairing my ballcock
Makes me feel like a man!
Thanks, think your video just helped me fix my own.
thanks a lot sir....your video helps me to repair the ball valve.
Thanks for this, it helped me out.
Thanks Al, it appears the ballcock wasn't shutting off properly, problem solved, thanks so much
Very helpful, I couldn't work out how to re-assemble the valve, this helped me to do that.
Glad it helped
This is the second one for the basement bat. czcams.com/users/postUgkxOuLt8IL_GxhhaK8DBuKEL-zV0UJVpWZn , works great
Thank you.
Thanks Very helpful I feel confident in attempting a repair. Very well explained.
You are welcome!
Excellent video, just saved money & one less cistern filler thrown in the bin/landfill 👍🏻
No problem 😊
Hi Al, great videos, thank you. I followed your recommendations and changed the diaphragm washer which worked a treat to improve the water flow. Now, water trickles by the nut (the first one closer to the main water pipe). As there does not seem to be a washer in the nut, I wondered if you had any idea what could be causing it. Many thanks again for all your super helpful videos!
There should be a washer there or it will leak.
@@dereton33 many thanks Al, much appreciated
Hi Al, thanks so much for your great videos, I have replaced a lot of washers on taps since learning from you. My toilet was pouring water into the pan, so I did as per this video and replaced the washer, it worked just until the first flush then it was back to pouring again. I then decided to buy a new ballcock and replace the whole thing, and all was fine again until the first flush? And it is still pouring into the pan at quite a rate. What am I doing wrong? Would really appreciate some help, thanks Jan.
Janice Holland Hi Jan, if your new ballcock is shutting off OK when the cistern is full to the water line, then it has to be a problem with the syphon. I have a number of video`s on this problem where water keeps running into the pan. czcams.com/video/qyuykxDa6_/video.html czcams.com/video/cHf0sb07bnM/video.html czcams.com/video/syRVlc8eeTY/video.html
Janice Holland Hi Jan, if the valve is shutting off at the water line in the cistern OK then it is most probably the syphon. I have a number of video`s on how to change those. czcams.com/video/qyuykxDa6_w/video.html czcams.com/video/syRVlc8eeTY/video.html czcams.com/video/cHf0sb07bnM/video.html
Could do with some light on the componens
Just what I wanted to see, thanks.
You're welcome
I have a faulty washer on this type as it fills slowly on at least 2 of them, what size/type of washer am i looking out for in the shop? I have replaced it with the least used one so it fills great now. Need to get replacement/spares now, many thanks in advance!
No problem.
Hi, I’ve replaced a few valves like this over the years and I notice a lot people asking about the valve washer and which way round the washer goes. The washers being replaced are usually distorted so for some it’s difficult to understand. Can you do an instruction on how to choose the correct way to fit the washers in the valve. Thanks for your very informative plumbing tips. Graham.
Great point!
Excellent. Thank you.
No problem.
Good advice well explained 👌
Glad it was helpful!
Hi I've replaced my previous filling valve with a delchem b801a but it still drips slightly from the spout, I've replaced the diaphragm seal as thought the new one was faulty with a brand new one but still drips, any help much needed
Probably just need to adjust the screw so it shuts off all the way.
Hi, my toilet makes a noise like a foghorn when I flush it (has done for the past 18 mths). Would changing the washer fix this and if I don't fix it can this lead to further problems? Thanks.
E Sinclair Yes changing the ballcock washer will cure it. A brand new silent fill valve will also cure it.
I have exactly that type of ballcock and arm in my toilet, but the water level in the cistern is too low. I must be dense but I can't figure out how to adjust to float to increase the water level. Any hints how to do this?
Unscrew the plastic bolt on the arm this will allow the arm to lift and more water to enter the cistern.
HI
I would like to take it and see all the parts - as the piston doesn't go back properly, blocking water coming in. But is it possible to do it without turning off mains? I can't find that screw - that is in other toilet in the house that stops water from filling up the tank.
You will have to turn off the mains to do it.
@@dereton33 ok thanks a bunch! Perhaps i can ask you - what to do to try to get that piston going smoothly - as it doesn't go back to let the water flow. What could be the cause? Cheers
Thank you very much
You are welcome
hi=need your help please -i have the same ballcock ,its six mths old , when its filling up water comes out of both ends of the nozzle , changed the diaphragm -still the same so had to lower the water pressure any idea what is the problem ??? thanks malcolm
Not worth fixing best just to replace the valve.
I’ve been watching your videos for a number of months now, very helpful and informative
OK, some of the detailed camera shots are in poor light and out of shot, but you’re an experienced qualified plumber not a cameraman
I got the gist of it
I can replace the washer kit and leave the pipe work in situ
It’ll be a lot easier (and cheaper & quicker) than replacing the whole bottom entry valve
I’ll give it a try and let you know how I survive
Thanks
No problem. PS MY CAMERA WORK IS MUCH IMPROVED NOW.
cheers , very helpful
This type of side entry valve is just £3.59 from Screwfix and gives a nice fast fill .
About 3 minutes !!
3 mins to fill a toilet cistern? That's a long long time.
What way does the diaphragm washer go into the valve?
The raised part against the plastic seat.
@@dereton33 Thank you
Toilet not filling up just leaking water from valve what is problem
Valve is blocked up. Or no water pressure to valve.
Nice video, needs a bit more light on the subject and valve dropping off the screen, Keith
The days when I had to shoot the video and do the job myself.
Could you show us how to do it in the cistern please. I'm a bit confused.
When I get my next toilet job.
@@dereton33 thanks , you can come and do mine! 😀
I've done this today and water keeps pouring out of the back of the valve. I dismantled and rebuilt but tightened it with a pliers and still the water pours out!!... Anyone have any suggestions?
New valve.
I took mine apart and cleaned it up and it works fine ... but I seem to have an opaque plastic cone left over. In the video there was only one, but I seemed to have 2 different and I have no idea how the second could have ever fitted in!!!
The second one if for choice. I think one should have a bigger hole than the other. The bigger holed one is if the pressure is low due to being filled from the attic tank.
Couldn't see most of that as most of the important shots were out of frame. As a complete replacement is only £3.50 from Screwfix, can't see the point of searching out the right washers etc.
Kevan Brighting 10 p for a washer or £3.50. Simple.
£1.35p for the washer nowadays and replacing the washer is what will solve the problem.
the plastic spout won;t stop dripping on mine until lift the arm to a higher position than the overflow, any ideas how to fix?
Adjust the screw on the end of the arm to lower the water level.
dereton33 thank you!
Good advice for novices but video quality is totally bewildering for most. If only you had spotlight on the parts being shown/manipulated.
Maybe you want to redo with amy new modifictations
Will see what I can do.
Low light
????
Keep what you are talking about within camera shot you silly billy!
+McDeadcat Thanks for your kind and thoughtful comments.
LOL, thanks for your help!
Bloody awful presentation.
Thanks for your very kind comments barry. Funny though.....I don`t seem able to find any videos from you any where?
Look, you seem like a nice guy, but it is difficult to see what you're doing.
