  • This throw back video is from several years ago when we didn't even have a dedicated youtube channel. I finally decided to upload to this channel. It is one of our earliest videos where we replace a toilet fill valve. www.handyguys.com/

I am usually the person who figures out the fixing in the family if we can. All I had to do was search "toilet inside squirting water up" and this was the first video that came up. It's just what I need! I had no idea what part to replace even. Now I do! Thanks

This video was a lifesaver. A couple weeks ago we had to get the main sewer line cleaned out(we live in a duplex and the other side was using those "flushable" wipes for their toddler. After they moved out and the water was shut off, they stopped moving where the two sides main lines meet up.) We just found the toilet leaking again and thought "oh boy, here we go again" until I realized it wasn't leaking from the base, but instead from the tank! Hello easy replacement that we've done before.

Would have been quicker if I remembered to use my wet vac instead of towels to get the excess water out of tank. I used the fluid master 400a fill valve. Thanks guys for the video.

UGH! Replaced with the sleep disrupter at 03:02 ! That's the one I'm getting rid of for the old fashioned large ball float! That plastic Fluidmaster fill valve has an amazing potential for very loud, high pitched noise that is beyond belief! I cleaned and maintained it and still amazing noise, perfect in the beginning but later get ready to RUN when the sound becomes unbearable even to people in the next room! As long as there's a choice I'll never go back to that Fluidmaster fill valve and keep using the large float ball.

Just moved into my house a couple months ago and found some water behind the toilet. We found the problem you show here. I didn't look closely at it and thought, "I'll just get a new water supply hose". I put the hose and flushed the toilet. It went sort of like 0:25.
It really looks like this valve is designed this way! I removed that red tab and it seems that less water comes out THAT side of the valve, but much water still comes out the other side. What's going on here!?
I mean, whatever...why repair what you can replace, emma rite!?

what is going on if you get to 2:44 and it starts SPRAYING OBSCENE AMOUNTS OF WATER AT U-
I live in a complex with poor maintenance and no real help. And I am unable to locate the main water line if I even have access to it as it probably goes to the whole building. Trying to install a bidet. I have completely turned the knob clockwise as well.
I made it to 2:44 on my own prior to watching this video- via the bidet installation instructions. When it started dripping i thought the water wasnt all the way off. The instructions dont explain that it can leak slightly still. (And i didnt soak up remaining water in the tank with a towel), so i tried turning it counterclockwise top see if clockwise wasnt all the way off. and then it came completely loose and began spraying. After freaking out, I was able to get the water off. My girlfriend flipped a switch on the breaker but I doubt that was what cut the water off. I think in my panic I cut the knob clockwise again and thats what cut it off. It is still clockwise, my breaker is still off, and the tank is actually completely empty. Can i trust that the water is actually off now to finish installing the bidet? And how do i get the toilet tank to fill again once I'm done? will cutting the valve counter clockwise really return the water without causing it to spray???

P 2l you may need to shut the water off at the main vale located at the water meter. This should turn off all the water to your house. Run the cold water in the sinks and/ or bathtub to make sure all the water is out of the lines to empty the system BEFORE removing any open water lines or valves. Suggestion... replace the hose to your toilet while the water is shut off. Better to be proactive, not reactive
