  • Welcome back!
    Sorry about the audio. i don't know where the horrible 60hrz hum is coming from.
    The engine is back together and its on to the dark art of shimming the valves. I hope you enjoy. In this video I finish up installing the new shims and rechecking clearances.

    Great video. I am trying to decide if I want to tackle my 05 FJR1300s valves. I have a hop manual that says to turn the engine counterclockwise to check the last 3 cylinders. Is that a misprint? I would assume it would be similar to this engine and should only be turned clockwise?

    • @DeWoodysShop
      @DeWoodysShop  Před rokem

      Well the FJR engine is more related to the older genesis engine like the FZR1000R so i am not entirely sure. But generally you turn them the way the engine would normally rotate, or it can cause cam chain tensioner issues.

    Thanks for the video. So at 9.40 you always need to remove the sprocket of the intake cam chain?

    Hello my R1 2007 turns a few times till it starts. The sound is noisy at the beginning, 30 sec later it gets better, i dont know if its for the valve adjustment or the tensioner

    How did you align the intake cam? I saw a chisel and hammer. We’re you able to tap the cam to align the arrow and dot?

    • @DeWoodysShop
      @DeWoodysShop  Před 2 lety

      I was slightly taping the flat spots on the cam gear flange with that punch to move the cam slightly to align it with the bolt holes on the cam gear. Basically just bumping it back about 1 mm very gently. You should never try to turn a cam past a lobe like that.

    Complex process and I think this engine is also used in snowmobiles.

    • @DeWoodysShop
      @DeWoodysShop  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, i live in Texas so we never see any snowmobiles sadly, but i believe they are in the apex for sure and some other. Basically there is a version of this engine without the transmission in the older ones, then the new ones had a version of the 04-08 engines.

    Wen I was moving to cylinder 2 I just finished the 180 so I could take my measurements with the feeler gages. I accidentally moved the tool maybe an inch ir so counter clockwise. Am I okay do you think? Nothing moved and the 2nd piston is still TDC. Can I continue on like normal??

    • @DeWoodysShop
      @DeWoodysShop  Před rokem

      Sorry I'm not clear on what actually moved like the wrench on the crank?

  • @saltire546

    Why they never used hydraulic system!!!! Thanks for sharing though.

    • @DeWoodysShop
      @DeWoodysShop  Před 4 lety +2

      I don't think hydraulic lifters work well in very high speed engines with tight tolerances. They always have some squish so you loose timing accuracy. Same reason when you go full race in ls or something you go solid lifters also. The other thing is of course weight and room. There is only 2mm between the cam and the valves stem. The engine would need to be taller for hydro buckets. My buell is hydraulic though. But obviously vastly different engine designs.
