    Dell has a big sale on the 9720 i7 with the 3050 graphics right now, very tempting. Not the newest model but such a savings it is very tempting. But a question. I've seen multiple reviews suggesting the 3060 not the 3050 graphics option, especially with the 4k UHD+ display. But the big discount, with either screen, only come with the 3050. Do you have any input you care to share about the 3050 vs 3060 graphics card, if that should be a concern for my use cases mention in my earlier post below? And the savings is $300 more if I stick to the FHD+ display option, do you have any thoughts on that choice, the FHD+ vs UHD+ displays? My old 2016 Dell 17" Inspiron has a QHD display which is okay, it's all I'm used to, but it's not a 4k or 3k Oled, and the FHD+ I understand is a step down from even the QHD, so I'm concerned about the FHD+. That said a 15" XPS on display at Bestbuy with an FHD+ screen looks really good, better than my current older 17" QHD, but I'm concerned that quality pic on the 15" won't carry up to the 17". So I'd really welcome your thoughts on all the above, the 3050 vs 3060 graphics card question foremost, but both issues if you care to. Thanks. (I have considered saving another $200 by dropping down to the i5 with integrated instead of dedicated graphics, but I'm not sure that would be enough for the long hours I am online streaming and chroming and such, so may not be worth the savings. But then if it is, maybe it would get even better battery life, I just don't know. So I have been planning on the i7, unless there's good reason otherwise)

      Hi Nate, have you checked our written review about the XPS 17 with the RT 3050? That should answer most of your questions.
      Overall the 4K is simply stunning and is one of the best IPS Panels you can get.
      I would personally not got for the FullHD version, since it would be too low-res for me and even if you are not into photo editing or something alike, the increased resolution will give you much more clarity.

    • @Nate-zy5ce
      @Nate-zy5ce Před rokem

      @@NotebookcheckReviews I just went and read that written review. Excellent. Very thorough. Thanks for pointing it out. I really don't know what I'm going to do here. Seems there are a lot of trade offs with this beautiful laptop that just hasn't been updated in various ways with the times. I'm beginning to think that if I do go the xps 17" route, I should only get the now older 9720 i7 even if just the 3050 and not the 3060 and save all that money, since the 9730 will cost roughly twice as much. A couple questions:
      If you look at my personal use cases from my prior post about 2 weeks ago that you were also kind enough to respond to, are my use cases primarily single instead of multi core, and primarily cpu instead of gpu intensive, or other? Also, do you think the new gen 13 i7 H chip and the new 4070 graphics together of the new xps 9730 might noticeably improve some of the 9720 deficiencies? Oh, and is the new gen 13 H chip a lot better than the new gen 13 P chip?
      It will cost me twice as much to go that 9730 route, and though I'm willing to spend the money, I'd rather only do it if it is worth it, and the lack of upgrades in certain areas like 6 wifi instead of 6e, it makes me think it will be the impact of the newer chip and graphics card that have to make the difference. And I don't know if they will improve things or not, especially after considering that some things dropped off from the 9710 to the 9720. I could always spend much less now via the 9720 instead of the 9730 and give Dell a couple years to see what upgrades they do in the near future before considering spending a lot more money on a future model. Or I could save money another way and do a Samsung Galaxy Book3 pro or pro 360 or ultra at 16" to get some newer things in it, albeit with a gen 13 P instead of H chip in the Pro and Pro 360 versions, and with no anti-glare or anti-reflective coatings on those Oled displays like the Dell xps's have. Tempting, but I just love the 17", especially in a roughly 15" form factor. Round and round. Feel free to add more here in you have some further thoughts. Either way, thanks for all you've shared already.

    Great video! Is the XPS 17 much better than the 15 inch model for everyday professional work (graphic design)? Is it too heavy? Can I connect it directly to a 2K or 4K monitor because I want to use the laptop instead of desktop?

    • @NotebookcheckReviews
      @NotebookcheckReviews  Před 2 lety +2

      It would be great for that. It is heavy but when you are on the go I find it much nicer to work on 17" so I would not mind the extra weight. You can easily connect external monitors. I would probably get a thunderbolt dock to make it easy.

    Is the UHD a glossy screen? Is the FHD a matte? For photo editing, how do the UHD and FHD compare for reflections?

    • @NotebookcheckReviews
      @NotebookcheckReviews  Před rokem

      The UHD is indeed glossy, and you are correct about the matt FHD screen.
      You can work with both quite easily if you are careful with your surroundings. The glossy one might give you more "direct" mirrored reflections, but the matt screen will give you a diffused glare that might make it even harder to judge your images.
      So I would still go for the UHD screen because of its superb color rendition and accuracy and avoid setting it up with lights behind you.
