That soft filter really adds a lot to the shot, love how it went from, "Thatʻs cool," to "Holy Moly thatʻs awesome!" With just the filter.
I love the way you show how things are gradually developing in the setup.
Jake is a great teacher. Started following you on CZcams. I'm starting out in photography, and feel I can take beautiful glamour shots with equipment that is within my means.
Brilliant application of lighting and gels. The addition of the Lee Soft Filter puts the image over the top! Congrats on an excellent training video!
Excellent demonstration, a wealth of knowledge I've just received from this shoot. Thank you!!!

Jake, you are one of the best lighting educators out there - love how you clearly explain the purpose of each step as you build your setup.
Thanks Mark, very kind words indeed :) Glad you liked the video.
i agree with you Markwang77. i have attended many workshops and watched loads of videos. Jake is only the second instructor i can truly say i trust. No ego's
Thank you Tony, very kind and certainly very much appreciated :)
...and you'll need to fly across the pond and teach a workshop in the US! at least come out to WPPI next year in Vegas - would love to meet you in person :)
markwang77 yeah I definitely need to make it to at least one of the US shows for sure :)
Everyone below that enjoyed his style of teachin should invest in his courses. It's worth it.
thanks Hicks
wow this was an awesome video tutorial. How do we purchase the gels and filter pack ?
Thanks u so much sir
Amazing skills and talent i really enjoy the video with Jake, wish for more and bigger in duration to come.In Greece is not that easy to find the full range of Lee products.I had to buy all my glass ND and grads from e-shop of a store in England and still the final price was better than here, not that big problem because you know what you get and what to do whit this filter, that's not my point. My point is that with gels i wish to take a more closer look because of so many tones and numbers so to decide depend on your wallet. I guess Filter Packs is a wise choice!
My best regards
I really liked this vid. Thank you so much, bud.
So on this setup you would do a front facing softbox then have the color lights on the sides?
Thanks for the tutorial. What is the mount used for the second light at the bottom? Can you provide link please?
Love the setup and I learned a lot. Love the video and what background music is this?
Nice vid subbed
What lens are you using? looks like a wide angle one that goes all the way up to 2.8 or so?
Nice shots mate.
I wish you could tell us the flash power used on your strobes or flash
do you have those definitive color gel packs amazon us link??

Are there not any US distributors for these filter packs? I hate to pay almost as much for shipping as the cost of the filters.
Super sir
Wow
What lens are you using for this photo shoot? Lovely shots!
I like the light at 7:41
Great tutorial. And beautiful model!
Are the images retouched??...looks to good to be sooc...
Anyone know what beauty dish this is? aka size/product?
Can someone tell me exactly which filter I can buy to get these effects? The links under video are not helping. I have a 100mm (4") square filter holder.
What is the attachment to fix the fill light on the stand?
May I ask, what lens where you using for the first two minutes.
what kind of constant light lamps did you use for the gel
Nice work; who is the gorgeous model he worked with?
Michael Jackson
what is the attachment you used to affix the fill light to the stand?
whats the best lens for this ?
I'm trying to buy a Lee soft filter, but I'm NOT finding it anywhere online! The link that is below the video directs me to colored gels only. Please HELP!

@@Widlomaa thank you very much, i couldn´t find the filter but now, i´m going to buy it :D !
Can you share the link to buy soft filters?
Shutter speed does affect the background exposure, so you are not going to get the same look at 1/60 sec and 1/400 sec as you mentioned in the video!
Where can you get those filters?
Beautiful model. I like her.
Jumped here from the phoblographer... While this info is all dead accurate and going to put a lot of folks on the right path, this jumps right out of the realm of "home lighting" really early on for the majority of hobby shooters.
It seems lee filters do not produce the soft ones anymore. Am I right?
I have searched the Internet and couldn't find them. If you do, please share the info.
Beginner question: are these pictures in the video edited at all?
Which camera is he using??
Can I ask where can I get these soft filter?
Amazing video I wish you would’ve showed the sooc instead of the edits
How do you edit these pictures
I concur with Grandmaster
Sbayo9 She looks amazing! :) I was looking to see if she had an instagram or twitter account they don't mention it anywhere... :( not good.
Follow the photographer, not the live mannequin you perv. lol
Are these images retouched for the video @JakeHicks?
I have the same question
what light do you use? name and model pls
I think he uses bowens. But the make and model shouldn't matter
Gabriella Grigo
We buy expensive cameras to get sharp images, then we put a filter on them to blur the image)
Model’s IG?
Oh I thought this actually had to do with home photography, like sitting on a couch & reading etc.
Can you please share your EXIF details and gadget details?
Everything nice i bet the model didnt come cheap.
great video but that's a lot of expensive gear - hardly lighting at home for most
godox expensive? ahah check professional gear then it really does get expensive
Lovely and very informative video, too much nostril from the model for my liking though...
model looks like that selling sunset girl...but shorter
use a lightmeter
Explain please?
the model is Creepy
Shorten the video. It’s too much talking, you could talk while doing what your talking about.
