I used to have the same light! ( Just with 4 bulbs instead of one) it was so good, even though it was super cheap. One day it fell and the bulbs shattered all over my room haha. I kind of miss it.

Absolutely beautiful Julia.
Beautiful! Just shows that you don't need anything crazy to get good, well-lit photos. Speedlights can just complicate things, especially for newer photographers. Nothing beats a controlled environment and time. You can also tell you got more comfortable the more you did it. Just get weird with it and you'll flow into things you really like.
Thank you! Haha yeah being in front of the camera is hard, but I feel like you slowly get more comfortable as time goes on 😅
@@juliatrotti yeah, it's definitely awkward. At least I didn't have anyone filming me while I did it; I think that would just compound the nervousness haha
That Canon Camera Connect app is really great for doing self portraits. I did the same with the 2 second delay to make sure I got the cell phone out of view. LOL. Nice that you can be on both sides of the camera. I'm sure it helps with making the models more at ease when you can empathize with them. I sure learned a lot with this video. You have a nice smile by the way.

Yeah as much as I love natural light, I do feel like lighting is extra important for indoor portraits as there is so much more you can do with a photo than when you're just relying on a window. Would love to make some more videos like this I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊

I was hesitant to buy though because I was unsure if they would even be worth it, even at such a low price. I just hit the buy now button though and I will have them Sunday! I absolutely love how the pictures turned out! The video really inspired me to make some self portraits ( but then i remembered that my camera with WiFi broke and i won't be able to fix it until the end of the quarantine)
Thank you and you should!! Since I haven't been able to do any photoshoots or shoot any weddings in the past month, just being able to take some photos instantly puts me in a better mood :) And while wifi definitely makes your life easier taking self portraits, you can still take photos without it! I used to take self portraits on my first camera a Pentax K100D and the Canon 5Dmk2, I might try making a video about this - but you basically need to put your lens in MF, put an object where you're going to be standing/sitting, focus on that, remove object and jump into the frame. Takes some more time and a little more patience but it can be done!

Brilliant Julia! Please do some more lighting videos...loved how varied all of your backgrounds were in your home...my faves were the dark moody shots from the office (both sets). If we don't have a dark wall how else can this be done on a budget?
Thank you so much and I would love to make some more, this was really fun to shoot and film :) Yeah having a wall as dark as that in a home is usually pretty rare from my experience haha you could achieve the same results with a black paper or fabric roll, maybe if you have dark bedsheets you could use that too or you could dye or paint something - it doesn't need to be huge, just enough to fill the frame so maybe 1x1m. You could also try if you have a long hallway at night, you could stand and shoot from the beginning of the hallway and the background should be quite dark and you can burn in any patches that are still too bright in Photoshop.

Oh my gosh I LOVED them all but the brown drop was just so soft and beautiful! :) Thank you for this video, I shoot with strobes and never really knew the cheap continuous lighting would work good enough just for self portraits or videos! Gonna have to order some!! ;)
Thank you so much! Yeah a continuous light is nice and easy to use for self portraits, each photo can be a little inconsistent especially if you rely on natural lighting a lot like the first set of photos I took, but you can still get nice results either way :)
Unfortunately (it may be user error) the canon connect doesn’t seem to work with strobes :( so I definitely need some continuous lighting to use it for some self portraits!
