Did I Ruin my 300zx?

- Although it may sound backwards, I have decided to convert my 300zx z32 project car to have macpherson struts in the front. I made a jig from a 240sx S14 to get the dimensions correct, then welded the shock tower caps in place with minor modification.

Great Video Great work Great Channel. Love you never change Mike 🙏❤️
The day Mike doesnt have to swap around batteries, ill know hes made it big.
😅🤞
not gonna lie I will unsub when he gets a new battery hahahaha
Anti gravity batteries SPONSOR THIS DUDE
I love the absolute confidence you have into your work. That alone is contagious.
yeah whenever i’m feeling lazy i like to watch some of mike
He does very quality videos makes me be more crafty
I wish I had the knowledge he did
the first fitment reveal with the excessive camber made me laugh out loud, the front fitment is so comical
also you've definitely upper your game in the cinematography department, funny cause i just brought it up too (also nice to see that song make a return)
Best content maker in the car world on CZcams. Real world, and honest work. Keep it up Mike.
I appreciate Smoke making additional mounting brackets for you and not saying, "all you had to do was follow the damn train CJ!"
you always amaze me of the things you do dude. Like, making your own suspension setup? (kinda) thats crazy😂
im HYPED of how this is gonna look!
bro actually made the hardest welding edit ever lol
great work ! but if you want to see if the balljoint taper seat right , put paint on it , torque it and check where it seat ! might help if taper not the same knuckle will get loose :) keep up here since day 1
Great tip!
The king of the jigs is back!!! 🙌🏻
you just taught me how to align a tie rod. Guess who screwed up her alignment when replacing a bent tie rod for the first time 🤣🤣🤣
bro got THOSE music taste (thx for putting cool music and not regular ncs overused songs lmao)
Love the old school skate vibe filming
It’s crazy how often one of your videos will align with whatever I’m doing in the garage. Also since you can weld you should extend the lower control arms yourself and get like -7 or more of camber upfront. Not only would help at angle but that car would look so aggressive.
Next time you have an issue like that with tie rods being to short get some GKtech rack spacers - they’ll give you more travel through the rack which in turn gives you more steering lock and spaces your tie rods apart about 40mm 👍🏻
Ur the goat mike, never seen someone so passionate ab lil projects like this. I wonder if someone has done that conversion before
It has been done
You could try moving where the top hats sit to the factory z location or somewhere inbetween, might fix the camber issue
This. He should have used the strut bar from the start to locate where the top hats should sit.
I think if he did that he’s going to have a problem on the lower suspension arm alignmrnt.
If I mounted the s chassis top hat in the z chassis location, it would not perform as an s chassis suspension should
The jig showed the exact location the top hat needed to be
Maybe he should use s13/s14 front subframe and not z32.
@@MeiSdeep Then the track would be too narrow
The patience to go 4 trips to get parts is what makes Mike my hero. 😂💪🏽
Best car content on CZcams period.
Additionally, did you measure your new top hat bolt locations relative to the Z32 shock tower holes? It'd be easy to triangulate the new holes vs the Z32 ones to ensure symmetry side to side. Also an angle finder would ensure the plates are oriented similarly. It wouldn't be the end of the world if you had to redrill the new top hat plates as long as the new plates are in mirroring alignment.
Or maybe do one side then make a jig between the new top hat bolts and the z32 ones, then you could make a mirroring jig for the other side. A strut tower bar would be a good jig basis.
Also could use a donor s14 shock tower for the top hat mounts. Lots of guys adding miata suspension to old cars do similar grafts.
Great project man, can't wait until it's KA24DE-T
Great work again mate. Shout out to your mum for helping when you need it!
i love staying RIGHT till the end to see the sneak peak, i knew something was off cos of the diff outro music. That easter egg of “no sneak peak” was so good, you always keep me on my feet mike
Mike is my comfort youtuber
I’m really to excited to see if it drifts like a s chassis now. This thing is sick!!!
Pro tip , when you pop a spring off a shock like that , but the back of the impact up against a wall , the shock flies further but you don't risk destroying your wrist
That's honestly the best tip I've heard yet! Definitely will try that next time!
love it! I would be so scared that my welding wouldn't be good enough for things like this hahaha. Need to build of that skill and confidence to do this!!!
My S13 and my 1200 Datsun needs some mods which I need to weld.... So this is awesome to see!
Those transition are fire not gonna lie😆
Oval out the upper hole on the coilover mount so you can get even more negative camber from the knuckles! Free option for now!
Mike holy hell!! the cinematography on this video is so different and awesome! another great video
340zx looking beautiful as always can't wait to see where it goes
already can't wait till you put in new coil overs!
Those 33 wheels on the z look amazing this whole idea is genius z body but underneath it’s basically an S chassis todays also my birthday wasn’t expecting you to drop z content but I love it
Happy bday g 🔥
@@PrizzaMike thanks Mike I appreciate it and keep up the great work 🫡 loving all the content too not just the z stuff
Loved to hear the song “ghost in the vid” niceeee
Shout out to PrizzaMom
Impressive conversion!
Some company should sponsor a welding cart for that trusty welder of yours!
I was so pissed off cuz of my dad and seeing that you posted was like a reset button it was like all my pain went away I really wish there was more people like you man I really hope to meet you one day
Try not to forget about z31’s your front set up rn looks almost identical to my z31. So if you’re not happy with what you got now you might look at z31 parts
sick to see it coming along can’t wait to see the z finished
those cinematic shots were killer!! also your music taste is immaculate :) the Z has come a long way, cant wait for the car to be sitting and riding correct
this is so awesome! love the creativity on this build!
In my S13 i have Maxima inner rods , they where to long so i just Shopped the tip with a Grinder and they fitted nicely with a lot of threads, never had a problem
It’s crazy how much you can do to a street legal car in the states.
Meanwhile where I am from there’s a guy that can’t drive is car because he bought aftermarket OEM spec struts because they’re blue.
The US truly is the right place for car enthusiasts.
Having seen some imported American cars up on a hoist, most of them are modified in pretty scary ways
@@tortron I don’t doubt it, but for people that know what they’re doing, being able to do almost anything without being worried about failing inspection or being caught by the police is pretty cool.
This is always so fun to watch. Keep up the good work!
You need s14 lowers, they’re 1 inch longer. Or weld up some extended lowers and gk tech super long tie rods
Mike... Your taste in music is just 🔥
Love the grind man, keep it up!
hell yeah dude im excited to see how this comes out once its all said and done!
Another nice mod, looking forward for more upgrade. And looking forward for your brothers 300zx build.
Definitely one of my favorite car guys. Thanks for always putting out quality videos for us all to watch
PLEASE check the compatibility of the lower balljoint to knuckle. there is certainly a difference from 13 to 14/15. the way you just smashed them together with an impact does not inspire confidence, especially the way the cotterpin hole is WAY far from what would have been a castle nut if you used one. I May be wrong but i believe the easiest fix for this situation is to just use an s14 lower control arm with the correct ball joint.
Next level montage video edit in this one my dude. Nice! 🤙🔥
Congrats man!! Amazing🎉🎉
When removing springs from shocks without compressors I sit on the floor with the top hat against the soles of my feet, put the impact socket between my feet into the top hat and brace my legs so when the nut does itself, it fires the shock away from me leaving the top hat and spring at my feet. Much safer.
What a good video man. I love your ideas and how you just do it. Much love man..Keep up with the great time.
i cant explain how much your vids mean to me rn had a recent family death of my cousin uncle and aunt and your helping me get through it
MIKE IS THE GOAT 🐐
THE CINEMATIC UPGRADE!!
I would invest in a metric tap and die set. This would have saved you the time it took runnung around as you could have added threads and removed the excess to get to where you needed.
edits keep getting better and better 👌👌
Bad ass work my dude you're killing it!
Bro is so hard working
Your videos give me motivation
You can get camber adjustment bolts that replace the top bolt of the knuckle that goes into the shock
I always wait for the sneek peek!👀
When you made the top hat mounts you could of made them to have slots for more camber.
That was impressive man you make that look easy
Well that was an adventure it seems. Still a bangin video man great transitions in editing.
You're insane mike, good work
Keep up the positive content!!
the 300 would look so crazy with a body kit and all painyed
Man I can’t wait for the next episode!!!!
If you created the jig when the car had the coilovers in a lower position than the height that the coilovers were installed at this could be the reason for excessive positive
camber ?
Hell yea. Ive been waiting this video
Great montage sequence.
Rain check always fits your videos perfect 🔥
them r33 wheels look sick on the z32
Love ur content keep it up❤
Rims look siiiiiiiick ❤
You need a cammed upper bolt for the strut that will give you enough adjustment
Once again another great video
Had to watch that welding edit over bro Rain Check and cars 🤟🏼
Dude the z looking good i like how you swapped the s13 stuff on there the car will be definitely a one of a kind an also i love that steering wheel know where i could get one for my ride
Good video just in time for breakfast! Dyno day is Saturday for me and my RSX type s is all torn apart🤣!! let’s get it done🫡
Keen for another video! Cheers mike and friends 🍻🤙🏾
(Hey mike, my notifications have been turned off twice by youtube ☹)
love your content
Hey bro, i know you might not see this but you're a massive inspiration for me. You gave me enough confidence to buy my own project car and work on it and I've been having the time of my life with my car thanks to your vids. thank you for making great content
.
Watching PrizzaMike, in my work breaks.
Only thing i wanna watch ;)
Would you be able to use the 300zx strut brace to cover up the hole left behind from the old suspension?
I think the only reason you have that camber problem is having two separate jigs and not being able to angle the coilovers properly because of that, the top mounts should probably be quite a bit more inboard. Could've made a single jig so every single mounting point had stayed in the same position in relation to all others, in my opinion.
That wouldn't have worked because the entire steering rack/track width is wider than the s14
@@nzuncovered1845 steering rack being wider is solved by using shorter inner tie rods though, right?
The excessive camber is definitely because the shock mounts were not inboard enough. Should have used the strut brace to set the distance between shock mounts.
@@nzuncovered1845 I think the only issue with my solution would be the control arm pivot points on the subframe, distance between left and right being different between the Zand the S subframes, in which case measuring the difference between them and find it, say, Z subframe is wider by 5 inches, then measure the distance between top mounts of the S chassis and add those 5 inches to it, you'd end up with coilovers being at the proper angle again, identical geometry to the S chassis just 5 inches wider car, basically.
@@datbass855 If he used the S13 strut bar to set the distance then the struts would be on too much of an angle, the Z32 track width is quite a bit wider than S13
@@Miseryqt Yeah that sounds like a good way to do it
Z31 inners are longer and also what we use on the z32 when installing rack spacers
You are amazing with your build God bless your thinking very smart guy and so amazing you are a legend on your build WOW THAT'S WAS UP
Good to see this ol beaut still getting the love she deserves. I just hope your planning on havin a turbski otherwise your not drifting any higher than first 🤟🏻
You can pry and hammer those dust shields off of the s-chassis knuckles. Might save you a cut-off wheel or two in the future lol.
Awesome content! Looking forward for what is to come with the 240ZX!
Hope you see this, the z32 uses a metal cone on the lower ball joint so it can still move free after installation
Mike is definitely doing some stuff I didn’t even know was possible 😂😂
Sucks it has positive camber, but it will likely be best to wait until new coils 🤷♂️
Most definitely, I'm too excited! The car is going to have a great track width once completed!
PizzaMike, i love watching all of your CZcams videos. Keep up the good work, making awesome CZcams content. I love the 240sx
I can tell you are very patient😂😂😂
Dam good video story telling
Man Prizzamike's my fav youtuber, might even biy some merch of his if i get cash,
oh and if mike's reading this, Keep up the good work!
