- One of the most important features to any project car is its ride quality. Today we take a deeper look at Tim's (@lawnchairacer ) Honda Civic Si. His track car previously had BC Coils and springs installed. He decided to step it up a notch and install a set of Stance suspension. We need to wait for the springs to settle for a few days to make any additional adjustments. We find ourselves street drifting later that night. Nikko's 180sx S13 had an issue with his SR20 T28 wastegate, after a speedy repair and a few laps, we were greeted by the police..

Those front coilovers are inverted, the smaller rod is inside the black shock body. Really strong 👌🏼
Edit: Also a lot of droop is not a bad thing, that’s what keeps your tires on the ground around hard corners. Lifting a tire looks cool but isn’t necessarily great for handling.

seeing all of the rust aggravates me, i couldnt live in a place that salts their roads or whatever the heck is going on down there lol. i feel so bad for car enthusiasts in that area. i left a car in the over grown grass for multiple years before ever building it and its rust free !!

The "thickness" of the front "strut rods" isn't actually the strut rod. That's an inverted shock design so what you're seeing is the shock body itself. If you could look inside the collar at the bottom you'd see the shock rod.

Bc coilovers are great. Probably youre rocking the BR series thats why its soft. If you have the DS and up series thats stiffer
Stance coils are inverted shocks so that is one of the reason why rod is so much thicker compared to BCs

I find it weird my Mustang on BCs performs about as good as the Stance ones in the "jounce test" and in corners they feel great, granted my Mustang had 4 blown shocks when I bought it so anything would be more planted than the stock struts that were on it, I'm running their recommended string rates, 8k front 4k rear, I guess it's one of those things where I'll have to ride along in a car with a better set of coilovers to really see the difference between those and BCs, I've heard a lot of negative things about BCs since getting them so I look forward to trying better coils when I get a Miata

you may wanna re-enforce those strut towers now or at least get a rear strut brace, i know bmws will blow out the towers when converted to 1 piece coilovers, not saying hondas will but you never know
I was thinking about that too. Strut braces seem like a good investment for better handling and preventing the car from tearing itself apart

I don't know that the rear spring rates from bc are comparable with the stance when changing the location of the spring itself. Moving the spring outward would increase the mechanical leverage and require a higher spring rate to maintain the same characteristics.

You guys must have good roads. I put 9k front 5k rear FEAL coilovers on an AE86 and went back to stock suspension because of how rough it was to driven.

The old coils adjustment collars were missing an mounting point. The adjustment collars mount to the control arm. They aren’t supposed to just move around freely when unloaded

Ahhh stance coils are premo. My choice for my z31 300zx, and even when I decided to convert my front suspension to s13 240sx. The company was super awesome on getting me the brackets I needed to keep my z31 setup.

Greasing hardware is a good idea. I like to use copper anti seize instead though my buddy that worked at a custom trailer shop swears by it. It must be good. I've had great results with it myself
Just installed some Tein Flex Z on my brothers Lexus Is200t. Similar divorced rear setup as the Honda and jounces just like it. Maybe time to show him this vid

Alot of people hate that body style civic. But ive always kinda liked it. I wouldnt mind having that gen someday..but i will say my favorite body style is the second gen eagle talon. I just love the way the tail lights are on them. And the body shape is just beautiful. That being said i worked on my talon more than i drove it lol 😆 😅. But still.

his civics suspension is like my parents
My genesis coupe rear suspension is set up like that and the rear is definitely floaty
The problem with changing to that rear suspension is that the shock mounts are real weak and ive seen a few break off from a bump .
This makes me want new coilovers because mine have similar problems

Something was not set up correctly on those BCs , with a custom spring rate , they never cause a problem IMO

But the paint and body were so shot when I bought it.
That collar on the top of the spring in the back, I ground the fuck out of mine and twisted the locker ring back on I gained about a half inch more low out of my g35 🤣 i really need the "true coil" conversion kit from bc

If you’re grip driving you want more droop so that your wheel is always has contact surface with no droop when you go over a bump the wheel stays sucked up therefore loosing traction with the road. I know going from stance to touge completely two different style suspension setups. It’s a even balance of droop too much is not good but neither is too little
