I am falling in love with lighting. It's an art in itself.
I really love the live video feedback instead of only photos! very helpful! great explaining as well
I like that method of showing the examples. Its so much easier to see. Glad you liked it.
Thank you JP! Great idea to explain light with live video instead of only shots. It makes it easy to understand!
Thanks I'm glad you like that approach. I think it works well. Have a great day!
OK, that opening was really cool. I'm hooked, now I have to watch the rest.
Thank you for being so practical about images, JP.
Thank you for watching, CJ!
Thanks for this video. I think it answers why I have not been quite satisfied with using gels. I was not factoring in the emotion aspect. I will now!
What a great video, thank you!
Great video as always. I loved the points of color and light relating to mood. Thank you JP!
Thanks, Matt!
thank you Mr. Morgan. you are a true genius and a great teacher.
Glad you enjoyed it!
JP, I’ve watched a lot of CZcams videos, to many really on light… they are all great teachers… I just always seem to find your videos more educational to my needs! My learning style … thank you good Sir.
Wow, thank you! So glad you are finding them helpful!
For me just watching these videos is the best prize I can get as I learn new techniques and more. Great teacher, mentor, and photographer. Keep it up.
Thanks, Felix! Compliments like yours make my day:)
Outstanding ! A gift in training... in 12 1/2 mins. Thank you...

You are welcome! Glad you liked it!
Great advice Jay P.! A wealth of possibilities.
Thanks so much for watching.
Another well scripted, properly presented tutorial that makes the point clearly and succinctly. Very attractive model with loads of personality, although she has difficulty looking evil (which is not a bad thing...) Point is, the model works well with the photographer to convey the point of the tutorial, matching her expression to narrative, effectively demonstrating each point. Thanks . JT
Yes, she did a great job and she was great to work with!
This video deserves more views!! Amazing demonstration.
Thanks Josh! Please share it on social media so that others can learn as well :)

Damn Grandpa! It's 12.36 minutes and it feels like you've just transfered something into my bank account. Thanks!
you are the best!
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Great video, love the explanation and the demonstration of lighting placement. I think my subjects are to close to the background making more difficult to control each individual light.
How far away is your subject from the background in this video?
she is beautiful
Yes she is! We were lucky to work with her!
OK, and her name is...Sharon Tate's doppelganger? :)))
@@ankapetkova8082 no ! Esmé Bianco!!!!!
Thanks.. World class education

Thank you very much for these videos, they are really helpful and easy to understand. Will just practice more and more to master this. Also, the lady is really beautiful, even when doing evil expressions hahaha.
So glad you found it helpful. Thanks for your comment!
Absolutely love this kind of content, anything that can educate on the cinematic language is critical viewing.
Good to hear. Thanks for your feedback!
Sir Cab u upload a complete tutorial that how to decide foot candle bu using metre n on the basis of aperture n iso n then how to set white balance On all kinds of light n when to use gel.. Apart from that how to match window sunlight to the indoor one n bring the foot candle of sunlight equal to ni indoor light set up plz
Great overview, though it doesn't solve the question I've been seeking an answer to... Could you do a video specifically on gels and why they still matter in this day and age where you can use layer blending modes in GIMP or Photoshop (or whatever digital retouching tool) to change the colors? I have a hard time grasping why I couldn't just shoot everything with uniform lighting/temperatures and then change the colors of certain areas in post. Very few (if any) people touch upon this subject.
Hey Jeff! I actually just posted a lesson on gels that you should check out! bit.ly/2tnWqCA
SUPER ..
Thank you. Glad yo liked it!
U r excellent
Thank you so much 😀. Hope you learned some good stuff!
Nadia is beautiful and very funny! Great stuff JP!
Thank you and thanks for your commetn!
What's that large soft box you bring in at 6:36? Looks great for a nice soft key light.
That's a Dynalite Rime Lite Softbox. Here's a link- bhpho.to/2safcBM. In the future you can find all the links to the products we use in our lesson at theslantedlens.com/

And credits to the talent.
She was great.
i still love those tennis balls!
Still using them. We need them to protect the floor.
She reminds me very much of SHARON TATE, wow!
Grandpa's studio has more tennis balls than a tennis court.
like the very end of the video :)
Thanks for viewing the video. Good luck with your shoots!
What soft box did you use with the aputure 120d

I don't know if someone noticed or not 1:14 tennis balls under the light pods interesting I have so many spare balls I can apply that planning in doing my own proper studio soon
Yeah, they work out great. You might be interested in this video: czcams.com/video/mGnclWWy03Q/video.html
How these videos (together with separation with light) have only so few views?
3:40
JP Morgan is the best! Thank you
Any tips for shooting a big bald head besides baby powder to cut the glare?
Flag the light with a net to let less light onto the bright area.
@@TheSlantedLens Great! I just watched the video on flags and nets and I didn't see the explanation of the silky flag, how it changes the light. Diffusion maybe?
Okay, so now am actually cringing coz am shooting my first feature film and I didn't put much effort into knowing a whole lot about lighting and now am realizing just how much more I'd have done to make the DP work easier. Thanks JP. It's a good cringe btw. Thanks for helping.
Thanks for the feedback! Hope your film project turns out great!
What exactly is the 1:4 ratio?
I see, thank you very much
We have a video on Ratios that explain it in detail. czcams.com/video/QTah36HPTPs/video.html
Your model is having way too much fun. ;)
This could easily be expanded to a one hour tut to deal with much of the stuff you hint at, or to simply expand on what you are saying. Bring her back and all the watchers will crash the servers. ;)
Thanks for the suggestion, Herman! We'll see what we can do:)
You have got to use her more. Looking gorgeous in front of the camera is easy. Having fun is another matter, and it is contagious.
Moon light..
lol im here 2022
Hope you learned some good stuff!
I just think that you lost 4 minutes talking instead of going straight to the point!
nice to see an older model not 20-30 year old girls like usual
We ended up with some really nice portraits of her.
pause @0:03 😐
Very beautiful girl.
there is no right or wrong, only lights and shadows
You are so right.
no matter what angle of light u use, she always comes out beautiful. So, no, it does not illustrate scary lighting so well, sry, lol.
Maybe not with her face.
That background music is way too hyped up
way tooo much blah, blah, blah.
she is so cute =))
Hope you learned some good stuff. Thanks for watching!
