- The 1985 KX125 was an incredibly fast bike, and a bike that so many up and coming Team Green support riders were winning on. Ride with Brady Brandwood as he finds one of these amazing old bikes and restores it to a beautiful near new form, and shows the details and tips of the entire restoration.

Came for Leon the Lobster, stayed for everything else. Great channel! This is a beaut!
I second that 👌🏻

I'm blown away by Leon. Helped with discovering this great channel. I have a 86 kx125 in need of a resto aswell. The Moonshine story is amazing if you have not watched it yet.

My first ever mx bike was an 85 KX125. I bought it around 1994 and restored it with frame paint new plastics and top end kit. Good memories!
Awesome! They are such cool bikes. ✌️✌️✌️
Wow, you do great work! This brought back a lot of memories. I had an '85 KX 125 back in the late 80s and it was always my favorite MX bike.
Awesome 1speedster! Thanks for checking out the video. Cool you had an 85 too. They were such great bikes. ✌️✌️✌️
My best mate taught me the fundamentals on an old 78-80 little RM50....such fun. My dad then bought me my very own first bike when I was around 11 or 12yrs old. It was an air cooled late 80s KX80 which blew my mind. It was so quick for an 80cc little ripper! The power band on that thing was so much fun! My dad wasn't a small guy and it used to pull him up the road with the front wheel lifting with no issues at all. My love of bikes came from a very early age watching my father ride and fettle around with his bikes. All my friends in the village had bikes and we lived right next to an old coal mine so naturally we had amazing tracks that we had ridden in over the years.
I've ridden bikes my whole life and have the injuries and scars to prove it😲🙃
I stopped riding off road a few years ago now as my back, hips and knees can't take it. I still have a few roadbikes but again with my body the way it is I keep them for nostalgia more than anything. I probably ride 2 or 3 times at the most all season. Its damn near impossible to get bikes out of your blood if you've beeb brought up with them!
The bikes your restoring are the bikes I grew up with. There wad nothing like the rush of a 2stroke, especially when you have them a good hammering!
I've owned quite a few beautiful modern 4strokes, they are gorgeous to ride but they don't have that "I'm going to kill u any second" feeling to them. Their almost too easy to ride!
I came to your channel via some Leon the lobster dude that got a second chance in life, I then found out your a 2smoke guy. That deserves a sub I feel. Loved the story about the moonshine too mate. I would love to hear more old stories like that. It might have been a harder life but damn it sounded like they had some fun.
Keep well
From Wales U.K🏴
WOW - this just took me back to being 15 yrs old and my dad buying me this exact bike BRAND NEW! It was THE bike to have! GREAT CHANNEL
Takes me back to my teens. Although I had a CR125 always loved that kawi green classic look. I can still smell that 2 stroke mix burning....loved that mix.
I was rapted watching this. Was my first bike back on Guam a lifetime ago. I was finally cleared to get a bike by my parents in June of 84. There was not a single 125 on the island and had to wait till the 85s came in. 4 months went off the clock. I must have called the Kawasaki dealership 50 times. I could hardly believe it when they said it was here. Best day of my 15 yo life was picking it up. When you started it up, I closed my eyes and a rush of memories flooded over me. Thank you.
I love the story of leon, and I love riding two strokes. This channel is awesome
The 84 & 85 KX 125 were such great bikes. Good Job!
I raced one of these back in 1985👍. Really liked that bike. My first Kawasaki; my father had just started a Kawasaki franchise in Warrenton Oregon so we were going Green👍. I really enjoyed those years, 1985-1988, racing KX’s. I think that ‘85 bike was my favorite. Such a great motor, good ergonomics, the bike was physically small and compact. Me and a very fast local racer, Bret Stevens, traveled all over the northwest that year. Great times.
Super nice job on the restoration!
Very cool story. Thank you for sharing. ✌️✌️✌️ Yeah I’m really impressed with the motor and the spy, and I think the 85 model is just a really good looking bike.
I learned to ride on a KX 50 and couldn't believe how fast it was in comparison to a 50cc moped for example. These bikes are legendary so it's great to see them being preserved.
Edit. Sorry to hear about the break in, hopefully the people responsible get warts on their privates or something 😂, keep up the great work.
I ❤️ you. You are like an enigma. Your speech cadence, your random interests, your attention to detail, the fact that you have long hair, your random slang you use sometimes. I hope I cross paths with you one day 🤘
great job lining up those graphics and the whole job for that matter. I bet Leon would like it to.
Fantastic work Brady! My father and I spent a lot of time chasing down parts bikes and bits and pieces for old 80s MX projects back when I was a kid, and watching you take the same level of diligence and care that in your restoration efforts that he taught me was so heart warming. Thanks for the great video
Big Leon fan! Also I had a kx90 when I was a kid around the same year this was extremely nostalgic for me great channel man keep it up
Came for Leon but this video was very satisfying to watch. Great job 👏 👍
Awesome. The sound sure brings backs even great memories
Nice video. I bought a new 1986 KX125 in February 1986.
I love restoring old motorcycles also. I don't have the time and space to restore cars but wanted projects I could do with my boys. They all have to help me restore their 1st dirtbike like I did when I was a kid with my uncle. I find that they take care of it better when they put their sweat into bringing one back to life. Building a kx60 for my 7 year old, a 2000 yz80 for my 10 year old and a 2005 yz125 for the 16 year old.
That is very cool! I haven’t seen a KX60 in a long time. ✌️✌️✌️
Love the dirt bikes from the 70s and 80s.
This was beautifully done. I always wanted to do this, but I’m glad I at least got to see someone else do it, and do it perfectly. Excellent video.
Thank you for bringing me back to my childhood!
Nice. Bikes from my childhood. I still mx on 2 strokes. My current passion is restoring 2 stroke street bikes. Never sold in the states. Nsr tzr rgv 250 they make my dirt bikes look easy.
Brady, i am totally amazed at your many talents...knew you raced bikes back when, ,,and worked on them, but this restoration project is beyond good....that sucker looks brand new..and yeah I can smell it. Just plain awesome!!
Rocchio I am looking forward to seeing a bike you choose to restore. I hope it’s an old Wombat! Whatever it ends up being, it will be very rewarding! ✌️✌️✌️
It came out great👍👏👊I had one & luvd racing it back then, so much fun. Thnx for stirring up some great memories👍
I raced one from '85 to '88, pulled a ton of holeshots, was a very fast 125 at the time, really liked that bike.
The last race bike I owned was a 1980 KX125. Best machine I ever raced or owned. This one is a few years more advanced of course- so fun to see you restore this beauty!
Brady your videos are really good easy listening/watching very informative ,you just can’t beat old 2 stroke MX bikes!
Oh does this ever take me back to my childhood!!! Awsome job!!!
😮 that's a nice resto job! Wish I still had my 85' CR500!
Awesome Hank! Thank you for checking it out. ✌️✌️✌️
Owned one of those back then. Great bike.
Just found this channel......fantastic job you have done with this kx125,looks better than new,gas tank come up great too, all the best from sunny england👍
Awesome Rick! Thank you for checking it out. ✌️✌️✌️
This was so awesome to see Brady! That 85 Kawi was my favorite bike I ever rode! I got rookie of the year on that bad boy in 85 and it gave me some of my best results and memories, thank you for sharing this build/video! Came for Leon and found great old memories!!!
This was one of my favorite bikes in my youth. I had a KDX 80 and upgraded to this as I grew. Such a fun bike.
Meticulous and knowledgable work top to bottom, loved every minute 😁 definitely want to check out the other builds now!
Loving it❤🔥💯👌 Great Build nice Job. And Congratulations to that nice Bike , you earn it after all that so much 💯🙏🍀🍀🍀 Stay Safe💯‼️
This video brings back fond memories. Ty
Awesome dark, thank you for watching! ✌️✌️✌️
I didn't realize you did this type of video too! Sold.
Awesome! Thank you for checking out some of the other vids. ✌️✌️✌️
BEAUTIFUL!! Great work and video!!
Great mechanic!
Sick build, great content. Thanks!
It’s one of the most beautiful bikes I have ever seen. As the teenager I am I ride a CRF100F. It’s pretty but nothing can sound better than a genuine 1980s two strokes! Came after the first day you posted Leon the lobster and watched everything else! Live well!
Awesome Seth! Thank you for watching. ✌️✌️✌️
Beautiful bike, your hard works shows,it takes alot to get one to look this good 👍👌
nice video and a very beautiFUEL bike. i like the 1980 to 1999 the most because of the classic looks
Bought this bike when I was 16. Had a summer job at a steel factory. That bike was wild 5th gear wheelies np. I had alot of fun on that bike handled really nice and still prefer this style and sitting position over newer.
The lobster story got me hooked. Classic dirt bikes got me to subscribe. So and I just finished a 1990 Xr200r. I just like the old stuff
1985 was the greatest year of all time..
Amazing work!
A work of art 👌🏻👍🏻😎
What an awesome restoration. Congrats and keep up the great content!
Many thanks, and thank you for watching! ✌️✌️✌️
@@Bradybrandwood I hope you're paying interest to Leon for borrowing his money to buy motorcyles!😆 you better get him a nice treat.
Such a satisfying video. Great job!
You are a very patient man. I wish I was that patient. I am currently rebuilding a very poorly kept and abused 1995 yz250. By no means "vintage" to most, but an integral generation of "change" in motocross in terms of looks and style. Keep up the great work, gives me some more patience on my own projects.
wow this is the bike my brother use to race when I was 8 years old incredible , that noise remember me so much, the uni track rear , he use metzeller tires thank you this video is amazing !
Yes my friend nostalgia is such a powerful thing! Thank you for watching, and thank you for sharing your memories with us! ✌️✌️✌️
Earned yourself a new sub! I restored a 98 cr250 last year and had blown out the side case because I installed the gearbox wrong. Fortunately good friends and community helped fast track the repair and I ended up making an awesome enduro bike! Love your builds and i'm sorry to hear about your experience with thieves. They suck!
Great looking bike! I am doing a 78 Cr125 now. Like you have in the past. Great videos!
Awwwwww very cool Frank P! ✌️✌️✌️
Great work, sutch a clean bike!
Beautyfull restoration! loooved that bike!. A few things: small KIPS aluminum cover was black and the letters were brushed aluminum. Airbox cover, the round holes were covered from behind, with thin, black, open cell air foam and, it was attached with 3, one piece phillips screws (the large head ones Kawasaki loved so much. Your fuel tank cap is cracked, don't let it spill on your nice decals!. You should always grease the "o" rings on the pipe, they will last longer, install easyer. Nice job!!!!!!
Pretty cool project, nicely done.
Many thanks Stephen, thanks for checking it out. ✌️✌️✌️
Hi mate I'm from the Philippines. great video btw, i have a kmx 125 1995 model that i am currently working on, your video helped me found out that the kmx's engine is the same as the 1985 kx 125 :)
Sounds amazing, looks amazing and I hope you had an amazing time riding it
I had one back in 1980 when Brad Lackey was riding for Kawasaki. That thing was fun! Miss the smell of premix fuel. Also had a chance to ride a KZ 550 triple 2 stroke. Without a doubt, the quickest bike when it hit the powerband. Took all my leg strength to hold on to the bike. Loved the sound of a triple.
Heck yeah. And to think you’re the Leon lobster guy!!! What tha heck man. You are too cool.
Great video! Came to watch a grocery store lobster and what do you know, there's also motorbikes! YAY! 😀
I'm getting ready to start the same year KX 125 . Thanks this will help me out.
I’m getting ready to restore a 2003 cr125 in the winter and I’m really excited to do it with my dad he has taught me everything I know and I’m just a teen I love him so much
Btw the cr125 is in boxes and was trashed with a blown up motor and all sorts of other stuff that has to be replaced my dad and I are going to make it like new love your restore vids
That’s definitely going to be a fun project. ✌️✌️✌️
awesome video!! came from leon the lobster lol, beautiful bike! i’m 18 and my dad has a 87 kx250 that i grew up with him riding and completely rebuilding around 7 or 8 years old from molested to modified and clean, everything about this generation of kawi bikes amazes me. easily one of my favorite bikes and all the memories of him riding and always thinking i could beat him lol it’s been years since he’s rode and wishes to do a full restoration in the future. best 35 minutes i’ve had in awhile!
12/10!!! Great job!!
very nice Braap!!! was hoping u would start it up at the end and knew u would thanks for that Brady! love all the vids from the old koi ones the these restorations! lots in common cool bro!
Yes Eddie awesome! Definitely have to hear these old bikes revvvvvvv! Thank you for watching! ✌️✌️✌️
2 strokes were the best!! I miss my '95 Honda CR125r 2 stroke..
I’m currently rebuilding a 87 KX125 and this is similar to what I want to do very nice videos with engine rebuild and restoration
Awesome! I know you will enjoy it. I had an 87 back in the day and wish I still had it. ✌️✌️✌️
Leon dragged me in and I then ended up watching bike restorations. I don't even ride motorcycles!!!
😅 Thank you for checking out the other videos! ✌️✌️✌️🦞
Love your channel sir,
And that is abeautiful build.
Awesome! Thank you for watching. ✌️✌️✌️
GreaT Bike the 85 kx125, well done on a Good Restore!
I really appreciated this video. Thanks Brady. And, BTW, I'm in LA and going to A3 this weekend. Go ET3! - Paul
Very nicely put together mate. (Both the bike and video)
Many thanks, and thank you for watching. ✌️✌️✌️
In 3rd place when the chain broke, sorry to hear that. Sounds like you were doing well in that race. Amazing restoration job here on this Kawasaki.
Great job it’s beautiful
Awesome man.
Very nice brother!!! I have a 1985 kx80 I'm slowly trying to restore. It reminds me of mine. I have the motor fully torn apart right now. Yours looks awesome.
Very cool Justin! I’d love to see it when you’re done. 👊👊👊
I bought one of these back in '85, Suzuki RM' s were really popular back then, that KX would smoke them all
I have driven dirt bikes all my life, but never learned how to do my own repairs, i wish i had someone that would have taught me that stuff, it seems like it would be a great hobby. Sorry about the break in, that sucks man.
Great build!
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out. ✌️✌️✌️
@@Bradybrandwood Waiting 4 more🔥😁
what?!...no green handle grips? lol...thanks for taking me back to a more care free time in my life!
Leon brought me here and, dammit, I want to ride again now which, I haven't, for at least 40 years. Will my body take the abuse ? Lot of things changed since the 70's and 80's, motor bike wise. Very informative. Thanks for sharing.
You do good work!!! Looks show room
Awesome! Thanks for checking out the video. I still love the style of this bike after all these years.
very nice!
Thanks for sharing the tip on the vintage KYB forks, I've got a pair on my 85 rm 250 , didn't know how to get the seals changed.
Hey thank you for watching. The socket nut size I used for separating the forks is actually a 27 mm. Yours may be a different size though, so you might have to try a few. ✌️✌️✌️
@@Bradybrandwood Thank you! Beautiful job on the KX!
Top video
Nice bike
Amazing clip Brady, Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you Vic Construction! Absolutely! ✌️✌️✌️
Man, I just packed up one of these, 1996. It's hilarious to ride on trails. But needs more power wrung out of it.
I remember seeing Rodney Barr race his KX's during this time in NC & SC he was a really great rider.
Nice! I used to have a 85' CR80, and my buddy had that same KX125. I always used to give him crap, cause I liked Honda haha, but his bike was hella fast!
I had one of these brand new! I loved that bike! I'm pretty sure they called it the "Jeff Ward Replica", but maybe that was the 1984 version.
Sorry to hear about you getting robbed. Such a bad feeling. Liked the video. I’ll subscribe! Keep em coming!
Hey Forrest, many thanks for watching. ✌️✌️✌️
Lol I also caught the video for Leon the lobster 🦞. But after seeing the MX bikes I subscribed. I've been racing Motocross for years love the older MX bikes...
sounds good nice and tight!!
great video .. i restored a 1998 a few years ago
Nice ! I’m currently working on an 86 kx125 - rebuild and refresh
Ahhhhhhhhh the first year of the rear disc brake, very cool!
@@Bradybrandwood ya I’m excited, check out the videos my friend 👍
Ik heb de zelfde motor gereden in me jeugd top motor! En super netjes gedaan 👍🏻
Damn nice!
I’ve had so many Mx bikes over the years even the mighty Honda Cr-500 at one time I was last racing a CRF-450 but due to shoulder injury had to give up the track 🍻
But anyways good job. Love restoring old bikes. Done a 89 Honda cr 500r an ended up with over 5grand in it with complete rebuild on the engine an powder coated the frame an put new bearing in the wheels an suspension as well as the neck, linkage, an swing arm an shock bushings. Then new plastics an factory decals. Loved it qn regret selling it but had financial issues that forced the sale. On the hunt for another one but I want a 2001 model instead of 89.
