Plaza Mayor (Madrid)/ פּלאַזאַ מײַיאָר שפּאַניע

While visiting Madrid I decided to make a film of the Plaza Mayor ייִדיש אונטן . Although the square is a beautiful tourist attraction today and continues to serve as the setting for royal and national celebrations, it has a more dark history as the seat of the inquisition where crypto-Jews, conversos, and other non-Catholics or people believed to not be Catholic or otherwise heretical were tried in a process known as "auto de fe" and burned alive at the stake. I reflect on the contrast between the plaza's history and it's current more festive existence.
