i love this! i miss hearing yiddish; it was my parents first language, but they are gone and i never hear it anymore. I was also surprised at how much i understood.

Yiddish has its origins of course from middle High German (although written in Hebrew characters), but it also has plenty of "loanwords" from Hebrew, Russian and other "diaspora" countries, as you might expect.

From what I understand it depends on where in Germany they are from. Some dialects/accents are more like Yiddish and some are very different.
