    I’m pretty sure he says “a Cossack like this” referring to the two cops in the courtroom. Cossacks, as you know, were responsible for Russian pogroms against Jewish peasants.

    I found a source for the Shaecter book that says it is "hardcover". I read a little siddur Hebrew. Is this a rational choice? Or the "Eynem" series?

      The In Eynem books are horrible. Demeaning in several ways. They seem to be trying to emulate the manic silliness of game based apps, like duolingo. The presentation of grammatical material is overly complicated and confusing. (Perhaps the older I get the more easily confused…could be.) There are more sober and disciplined books out there as maestro Leyzer has indicated on his magical radiator of learning. Gennady Estraikh is good and, as indicated in the title, intense. Sheva Zucker’s two volumes are good and take you a long way. The Weinreich textbook is very well organized and methodical.

    I believe that the actor playing Mr. Horowitz was Joe Barton, the same actor who was in "Taxi!" speaking Yiddish to an Irish policeman, very frustratedly, until Cagney comes to the rescue, speaking Yiddish. The clip is available on You Tube. Look for "Taxi! (1932) -- Cagney speaking Yiddish"
