    The person that was concerned about a potentially bad timing belt did the right thing.

      Agreed. I do not mind the ones where the owner pulled a boneheaded stunt. I do not understand why this was included. The minute my car does something I do not understand, I call my mechanic.

      Amen to that. A lot of times, when the tensioner or the guides start going bad, the engine will be making noises for some time before it jumps teeth and you get unplanned piston-valve interface.

      That’s a good feeling when you take your car to a shop thinking you might be shelling out some money and find out it was just something rather simple.

    I... suppose we should all be glad (grateful) it reads "normalize hitting the curb" and NOT "normalize hitting other cars"...

    I usually take one of the smallest drill bit I have and make a hole as low as possible in the signal/headlight housing. If it's easy enough, I will remove the light and drill from the bottom. I've been doing this on cars since the early 80's.

    That customer @ 2:30 needs to keep a serious eye on their tires - they're really dry rotted!

  • @dagamer667
    @dagamer667 Před 9 měsíci +3

    That bad pulley that sounded like the timing chain was still a good call by the customer. A wuick and dirty way to isolate those kind of noises is to remove the belt and star the engine for thirty seconds or so with electrical accessories off. If the noise goes away, its something outside. If its still there, you know for sure for sure its the motor. Tok bad that taking off the belt is a much more involved job on some cars than others.

    2:30 I had that kind of problem with my old Fiesta... had to hit the brakes to stop the engine. Even two inspectors missed that because they turned the engine off with foot on the brake. Turned out there was some shady wiring where the alternator fed back to the ignition with key off. Apparently the brake lights loaded the alt enough to bog it down at idle speed.

    1:54 when I was working a car mechanic a friend of the boss brought a number of used cars that were parked in a hall for years; a partner bought them and "forgot" about the vehicles for too long, and eventually they parted ways, and the guy ended up with a hall he had to clean of cars that wouldn't run.
    one was an Audi A6 wagon with the 2.6 V-6, forgot the exact year. the fuel in the tank deteriorated and turned the fuel pump sealing into a sticky goo. unfortunately they all filled gas in and tried to start the cars, needless to say it didn't work in any way. the Audi never ran right, and a 924 that had but a mouthful of goop left in the tank wouldn't even run at all. without the experience with these issues and no documentation at hand we parked them all somewhere...
    later I got canned, so I don't know what happened with the cars (and at least one motorbike).
    2:02 with a customer that honest you can only be helpful. they deserve a discount just for being honest. :)

    0:41 Well DUH! If you use a pogo stick as a shock absorber, it will be bouncy. 😄
    BTW, Hyundai/Kia cars appear to be less than good. I say this after seeing countless videos of the strangest Hyundai/Kia problems and after seeing numerous H/K vehicles on flat bed tow trucks around my area.

    So with the Hyundai that wouldn't turn off. My dad had the same issue but with a PT cruiser. That car ended up needing the whole wiring harness replaced to fix the issue. Wonder if it's a similar issue with that Hyundai.
