I was so desperate to get the quintessential Mandalorian Helmet prop replica into my collection that I ordered both the eFX AND the Anovos versions, then compared the two. In this video, I give my thoughts in regards to the pros and cons of each helmet, and, hopefully, give enough info that other collectors can make a similar decision for themselves without resorting to such drastic measures.
Very nice video Terry. There are a few things I want to point out though. The EFX has no give because the visor is screwed in with small screws all along the edges. The EFX helmets are also prone to cracking, all four helmets I’ve had here have shown some level of cracking, usually around that visor area. The Anovos has its’ visor hot glued in.. well, one of them. I don’t know why it has two visors.
Paint wise, Anovos would be closer on a technical aspect, because they use the same 3 stage paint process used on the real helmets. That is 2K gloss, aluminum metalizer, (the real helmets were painted with Alumaluster) and final 2K gloss seal. EFX developed their own process, base coating with silver and then spraying a black candy on top. The final look is indeed very similar but it’s worth pointing out. You’ll also notice the “highlights” on the ear and the cheek matting is very soft on the EFX. The real helmets were taped off like the Anovos so they have a sharper finish. Just another small difference.

I think it's got two visors so that when you breath you only fog up the inside one, so it still looks good to anyone looking at you. Just a guess, though!

Thank you for doing this video....I am currently making my own helmet that I 3d printed for my cosplay, and this video just gave me the reference material I need to paint and finish my helmet. I think i am going to go with the EFX model....seems more realistic in its weathering and what not.....
The EFX with an actually casting from the original mold has lineage to the original can’t beat that
The anovos was a exact measurement digital scan so yea it can be beaten
scanning the original is an equivalent of making a mold from the original if you ask me lol

Very informative video! Subscribed. I also might add that neither EFX/Anovos used the same paint used on the real prop. Which is a pricey paint called alumaluster. I currently own an Anovos that's being repainted with the same paint and methods legacy has used. Keep up the quality content!

I'm shocked that at that price point they failed to to use alumiluster. That seems like a huge oversight for something that is designed to a licensed replica of the original product. Even though a gallon of luster is $1400, it would be an added bonus to have that authentic paint job

The EFX retailed for 750 and now sell for 1,200 and up the anovus you can get off eBay for 550 if you look around.

Yep! I don't intend to pick that one up, myself. But if the Boba Fett helmet is any indication, then the differences will only be important to more discenrning collectors. For people who just want a cool Fett helmet on the shelf, I'm sure Hasbro's will be awesome.

Nice comparison video👍🏻. Did your Anovos have any manufacturing flaws, fingerprints, unfinished, uneven weathering etc? I know a few people who had similar issues with their helmets is why I ask.
Dalton Yes! Take a close look at the turnaround clip with the Anovos. You can see in the right side that there are a few small dots, like bubble had developer in the gloss. It was frustrating, but I let it slide. Anovos isn’t known for stellar customer service. I decided not to put myself through that process with them again.

Great comparison/review video! However, 2 things I had hoped you would talk about; the visor. (EG: Quality, visibility and tint, etc) and pricing/availability (though pricing is something that could easily be looked up) I have friends that collect the Anovos helmets but consistently complain about their availability and how they sometimes wait well over a year if not more for them to come in. Wondering what your experience was with this helmet.

Anovos is great when they deliver. But they seem to be having some issues.
I ended up getting an Anovos. I really like the weathering on it. I also display it in an Ikea Detolf on a foam head so the EFX stand would be useless.
Excellent choice. While the edges aren't as sharp as they are in the show, but overall look of the helmet is closer to the season one lid.

I slightly prefer the Anovos. The paintjob looks a lot more accurate when compared to the screen used helmet that was on display at D23. My large head probably won't fit comfortably in the smaller sized EFX
You might be surprised. I've got a pretty big melon as well, and also thought that it would never fit in the EFX. But I surprised myself by actually getting it on with relative ease.
The Efx would be for me. No interest in wearing it except once to look in the mirror. I then would much rather have a nice display base to go with it. Moreover, Anovos just has a “cheaper” feel to me probably due to the nature of wearability and comfort. Thanks for the comparison.
Yeah, I’ve moved beyond my wearing phase. Just that trip to Trader Joe’s, and that was it. I have the same philosophy with lightsaber hills. If I can get them without the blades,I do.

Holy crap this is such a good video. Can I ask when did you order your anovos mandalorian helmet? I ordered mine in april and I have no idea when mine will be coming. lol
I had to go back into my e-mail to find out. But I ordered it on December 30 of last year. I've had it for a few months now. You can see it in an episode of Javajawajaw on the Jedha Patrol CZcams channel dated February 3. So it took about a month to arrive.

Which did you prefer had the more accurate visor piece? And which one did you end up keeping? Love the channel!
I actually wound up keeping both. Still undecided as to which is the most accurate. I keep seeing scenes from the show, one of which I'll think, "Ah, yeah. That's Anovos." And then, an episode later, I'll see EFX.
You never compared the prices of the Helmets.

I wonder how these compare to the AFX Jsin or Bobamaker helmets.
The EFX one looked better. The Anovos had those dimples, was too shiny for my taste, and the detail loss was noticeable, specially in the front part where the mohawk part ends on the visor.
Two years later and what are your thoughts?
Anovos did actually deliver? All I ever see is "interest list" and release dates being pushed year after year. Including many angry customers saying they've waited for delivery of their purchases for several years and started suing. I've purchased a Battlestar Galactica officer uniform many years back and it was of amazing quality (like a high-priced custom-tailored suit), but while some of their newer stuff looks very intriguing, these news kept me from ordering more so far.
Did you purchase the EFX Collectables Mandelorian helmet from their website? I want to order the Melted Darth Vader helmet from their site, but I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews of them never shipping their products, and terrible customer service.
I did purchase it from their site directly. I've ordered two helmets this way (this one and Vader), and they've shipped without incident.
But I'd be lying if I said that I've never had an issue with the customer service department at Anovos. I once canceled an order for an AT-AT Driver helmet, and while they actually did cancel my order, it took months of constant phone calls and e-mails before they would refund my money.

I ordered the Mandalorian Season 2 helmet from EFX. On the website it looks to be more shiney, maybe looking like a newer beskar helmet.

Cool. The helmet changes appearance from episode to episode, and sometimes from scene to scene in the same episode. Ultimately, its your call which look fits your room.
Anovos is is not a good company. Takes forever to get anything form them. Still waiting for my stuff. Patrol trooper so far to 2yr. Beware......
Yep, this. Still waiting since Star wars celebration 2016 for my First Order trooper premier armour set. Requested a refund December 2019 and only now have they acknowledged that request but tell me as they have no staff in their accounts department due to Covid that they don't know when refunds will be given out.
Hundreds of Ghostbuster fans are still waiting for proton packs.

You could try the pads on the forehead, right above the forehead to get it off your face. Of course that's if you haven't already.

I think it's been established that the screen-used props are also made of fiberglass, or a similar plastic. The base coat of paint is this outstanding stuff called Alumaluster, which is VERY expensive. As far as I'm aware, none of the helmets on screen are made of metal.
I tried to order a tie pilot helmet from Anovos several years ago. After a year and a half, I had to jump through hoops to get a refund and there was still no timeline on when it would be out. I won’t buy from them again. So there is really only one choice for me.
I had the same experience with my AT-AT Driver helmet. So, yeah. I get it. Proceed with caution, and be ready to fight.
Weird I've ordered from anovos 6 times and they always arrive within 2-3 weeks for me

Which one is good for investment purposes? EFX or Anovos?
It's hard to say, really. Right now, the eFX is demanding the higher price. But Anovos has had a good rate of return on other helmets, like their Darth Vader, in the long run. It's anyone's guess.
You made a video on prop helmets from ‘The Mandalorian’, that featured two helmets. One of which is a wearable prop helmet...

When you show pics of the two helmets they are reversed from when you are showing them in the video, a little confusing but I adapted. Maybe your next review of items have them on the same side from still pics and the video review.

Hey, Chris. The eFX is actually more expensive these days, if you can find it. Sideshow has it listed at $725 right now, as opposed to $650 for the Anovos helmet (which is sold out at Anovos, and relegated to an interest list).
If you're referencing the $399 price tag on the eFX site, that's actually the balance due for customers who pre-ordered it and paid the deposit. As far as I can tell, the helmet is unavailable for new customers at the eFX website. It's possible that the remainder of the 750 piece edition is all being distributed by Sideshow.
If anyone has any more information on this, please feel free to share.
As of 9/19/20, the Efx version is now "Wishlist" status on Sideshow. Judging from current developments in the secondary market, it might become tough to find one of these Efx helmets for under $1K now. Especially with Season 2 on the horizon. Good luck on your search/decision!

Terry Smith Yes, fully paid because at the time it was listed as NOW SHIPPING. I’ve since chased it up and they are blaming delays on COVID-19. But I seem to be discovering that this is the normal level of service from Anovos. Definitely never buying from them ever again. I should of just waited and bought one off eBay as there seems to be loads for sell there.

A frist generation casting of a screen used anything is the closet you can ever get that’s a fact I collect original movie props I know . Anovus for 700 no stand no coa it’s pathetic they do this with every helmet they make pretty sad for a couple more bucks they cheap out .

These are better than my hand made fiberglass helmets, but mine are very well made and originals.
As a friend of mine always says, "Collect what you like." If yours give you joy, then pursue them.

eFX looks more accurate since it has sharper edges directly over the visor and also beskar doesn't rust.
I totally agree. But if you watch the show closely, you'll see some rust-like qualities in some of the shots. It varies from episode to episode.

Terry Smith I agree.. I have the ANOVOS mando helmet as well and the card that comes with it mentions it being fiberglass I assumed it was all fiberglass,excluding the visor obliviously lol
