Seriously? No way 😆
well if women sail as good as they drive no wonder
Was Poseidon worshipped in Scandinavian countries?
@@Har1ByWorldconsidering only 1 person steered, there's plenty of other roles they could have put women in if it was just "their ability to aim the vehicle."
Yeah, ship is she and girl can get jelous.
On practical side rise of seafaring happen on peak of plague, pox, cholera and STDs epidemic and port whores were for sure on of the riskiest demography to catch some of that. So captains looked for any possible mean to divert ship crew from going here. Also places on ship were much limited so have place for food and whatever needed for a person and keep em just for entertainment is not great either. On top of that if somebody of the crew catch something he could be isolated. Shared "bedwarmer" would skew possibilities.
Work with sails was tough and power in any hands counts. Either on peak of seafaring rush there were a lot of stuff to do on shore with luggaging, foraging at wild islands etc. That's why women being more physically fragile and usually less adapted to harsh environments, so found no place in crews at times. Today it's more or less tradition, women are still rare on ships, most jobs still need some physical power, mostly luggage handling (not cargo, its handled by machines, but utilities on ship as parts, meds, food etc) for sailor jobs, mechanics jobs still need strong hands but it depends somewhat. Command jobs definitely can be carried by women. Even at pirate rise times there were rare cases but still famous female pirate captains. But here where traditions screw things up somewhat. Only cases I heard about women being in ships command crew was fish processing ship floating in the middle of fish catching area taking fish loads to process from fish catching boats in exchange of fuel and cargo to keep them operating non-stop. Like a fleet of 12 relatively small Fisher boats and relatively big cargo fish processing behemoth. She was second officer here for all good reasons bcs the most important part of the crew here was fish processing deck workers obviously and out of 350 people here 290 were women. So fish processing deck crew management was her job.
Well it was in a country with relatively traditionalist society not something as crazy as muslims but fairly traditionalist one.
Amount of slur poor woman took daily was ungodly. Maybe for a reason. In comparison to grim permeated with fish stench food processor, dolled up beaty in uniform was definitely an eye catcher, especially for tired but glad due to good catch fishermen.

I’m not Danish and I absolutely love the way they represent you in this.
I thought they were northen irish
I thought this would involve mermaids luring sailors to their deaths. And then eating them. Which is mythically accurate. There wasn’t a nice version of mermaids until Disney came along.
Truth, mermaids were basically cautionary tales to sailors of 'too good to be true', beautiful naked women at sea ... who want to kill you and eat you.
Even the original 'The Little Mermaid' didn't hide the fact most mermaids were soulless creatures who turned to seafoam when they died.
Not all cultures believed mermaids were man eaters. Some thought of them as good omens and others more of a neutral entity. The modern man eating mermaid is probably people mixing up sirens (man eating bird women with voices that lure sailors) and mermaids.
you never heard of Hans Christian Andersen?
Since when did sailors think fishes were mermaids
I thought mermaids only existed well "existed" because when sailors first saw manatees they mistook the manatees for mermaids
@@roluevasreisa5730 If they thought manatees where mermaids, then idea of a mermaid had to already exist.

A popular theory on the origin of Mermaids actually comes from sailors having "relations" with manatees. I was expecting something totally different based on the title but was pleasantly surprised.
And what does have anything to do with mermaids?
An actual mermaid is a demon that eats people by luring them, definitely not some princess in the ocean.
