So there’s this ancient Sith text which basically gives advice on how to have a Sith apprentice. It says you cannot have two apprentices, and also that you pretty much shouldn’t be emotionally attached to your apprentice, because you’ll probably have to replace them at some point. Palpatine also used Vader from the very start, so he’s more of a tool to him.
