Lynskey PRO GR Titanium Gravel Bike - Long Term Review
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 02. 2018
- The Lynskey PRO GR is possibly the world's first 6/4 titanium gravel bike. JOM took collection of the bike from the Lynskey factory in late June of 2017. Since then, the Lynskey PRO GR has been raced at events such as the 2017 Red Clay Ramble. In between, it has racked up a ton of training miles aboard multiple wheelsets in 700c and 650b, and with multiple tyre combinations. The review also features a good amount of drone footage.
For those wondering, the PRO GR weighs between 18.8lbs - 19.8lbs (8.5kg - 8.9kg) with pedals, dependent upon wheels, tyres, and other components. In the future, the PRO GR may be the centre of another project... so, watch this space... and please subscribe to the channel!

Dangnably comprehensive review. It was your multi-ep interview with Mark Lynskey that bought me to your channel. So, keep on yipping. Yip! Yip!
Thanks dude, appreciate it! I try hard to stand out from the crowd of fluff reviews that proliferate the internet these days.
Nice review. I appreciate that your reviews are over such a long period of time and a variety of rims/tires/terrain/situations.
Thank you Eduardo. The video footage and photography were from a five to six month period of riding the bike.
Love the new style Lynseky rear dropouts ....Best of all is the return of an English threaded bottom bracket ....
Yes on both counts!
Thank you Jom for dropping this delightful video on the Pro Gr. I've been waiting for a detailed review and you delivered as promised! I'll be riding my own in a few weeks! Keep up the amazing quality in your work.
Thank you EH! You are going to love the PRO GR.
Thanks to your reviews of this bike, both here and on instagram, I recently purchased an XL 2019 frameset direct from Lynskey. I loaded it up with Shimano Ultegra groupset, 3T carbon bars and stem, Pro Stealth saddle and my ultralight American Classic Wide Lightning 29 wheels (Hope hubs & ti spokes) with 40mm Schwalbe G-One tires. Last weekend I put it to good use in the Dirty 130 festival in Wagga Wagga. It was amazing, out performing my expectations. Thanks again for the recommendation.
Nice! That's one ride I would like to make one day, but I was fortunate to ride much of the loop early in 2018, in the sweltering heat. Good times!
How tall are you? I'm about 6'2 1/2" and not sure if I'd be best on their L or XL?
6’3” with long legs. My BB to top of saddle measurement is 88cm. Hope this helps.
Best possible line. That is not even in my vocabulary. If there is a shitty line, l'll pick it. This bike is so sexy, Lynskey knows bikes. Great review mate.
Haha nice... thanks Jeff, appreciate it.
Great review, and awesome looking bike...great job
Cool drone footage
Thank you. My aim is for the drone footage to enhance the review.
Hope you are healing well. Sending more healthy healing vibes..
Thanks, I really appreciate that. On the positive, I've found time to catch up on a lot of website content!
This is one of my favorite bikes, visually at least. I’d love to ride something high end like this some time.
Hey Charlie, I hope you get the opportunity to do so. But, don't forget that the bike is just part of the experience.
On the fence between this and the regular now GR 270. The real question is: is the 6/4 worth the difference if you dont race? Is there a weight difference?i know it’s supposed to be stiffer but have you really noticed a qualitative difference that would be worth the premium? Great video as always
Sweet rig. One thing. How do you get stiffness and comfort at the same time? I mean the two terms seem polar opposites. I'm looking for a ti bike for the compliance.
Is the chain stay at non drive side is asymmetric compare to the drive side?
Thank you for this review. I know this review is 6 years old, but nevertheless i think this bike might be exactly what im looking for. Do you still own/ride this bike?
Hello there, a friend has this bike nowadays, but I have another one from the same period of time, polished. It has a matching polished seatpost and stem both from Lynskey. One day, I really should build the bike.
Crackin video again mate. Wish I could find a lynskey in Ireland to take a look at them. Might have to see if they'll feature in any uk bike shows.
Thanks Colin. The only consolation to your statement is Lynskey are now offering free world wide shipping, but I totally understanding seeing / demo'ing before you buy.
Gravel Cyclist its on the cards 👍😊☘
Did you get one in the end ?
Have you ridden a Moots gravel bike and if so how about a comparison
I reviewed the Moots Routt 45 recently, you can see it here on the channel. Sorry, I generally don't do comparisons... I review, and leave the viewers to compare for themselves... thanks!
Another great review. Any idea what the bare frame weight is?
Wonder if they're ever going to make a internal cable routing.
Do you think this is just as compliant, or more compliant, than a comparable carbon frame? Also, hows that seatpost?
Would you consider the enve fork given the opportunity or stick with Lynskey fork?
Anything made by ENVE is solid, I'd ridden several bikes with ENVE forks.
I'm very interested in this bike. How would you say it compares with the Orbea Terra?
Thanks for all your content
I was considering a Pro GR as a primary road bike with some single track and off road capabilities. Not for racing… just for fun and exercise primarily and maybe a group ride. I am 6’3” 240 lbs, was wondering if you thought a GR300 might be a better match. The sales person at lynskey suggested the Pro’s stiffness for my size. Thoughts?
Hello there! Unfamiliar with the latest GR300, but the PRO GR was stiffer than the early model GR250 I reviewed a long time ago. As you are probably aware, larger size frames can get flexy in places. Thinking the PRO GR may work for you, and as a bonus, unless they changed it, 6/4 Ti 😄👌
@@GravelCyclist thanks for the feedback. i pulled the trigger and just got my Pro GR with AXS Force 2x; OMG it is awesome. still 6/4 Ti, but they changed the tubing to a Diamond cross section (no longer triangular). i cant comment on the difference between the 2. however, my frame is so rock solid, comfortable and smooth, not harsh in any way... i love it.
Looks like a great bike, Have you tried to attach any bikepacking bags with the triangular tubing I reckon the top tube tank bag might be unstable.
Hi Andrej, afraid I have not tried attaching any bags. I would agree with your comment about a top tube bag being potentially unstable.... unless the bag had a pliable base, but that may affect its storage capacity. Thanks for chiming in!
Looks a good well thought out design Jom. How much does it weigh in the setup shown?
Dave, roughly about 19.3lbs, decently lightweight but uber tough. I may use the PRO GR as the basis for a project bike later, depends on how much cash I want to plunk down for the build. I forgot to mention it in the video, I've arranged to keep the review bike for myself. VERY happy with it.
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship. Love these bikes. Unfortunately I still wouldn't buy one due to the hideous cable routing. This needs to be cleaned up before I ever spend that kind of money....
For my road bike R300 They would do a custom through the frame routing just have to pay extra. But I believe this is standard for the pro gravel bike frames. break out the wallet brother your time has come.
For my new R300 road bike they quoted me to do a custom through the frame mod, which would hide the hydraulic lines . But I believe the GR300 come with this feature either standard or an option, and it looks great. Time to break out the wallet brother, your time is here.
Can it do loaded touring?
JOM, What'd you do for a cadence sensor? There is not enough room for a Stages L or the Garmin cadence. There is not enough gap between the crank arm and the chainstay. I was hoping to avoid the wonky looking once that mount on the chainstay.
I don't use a cadence sensor or power meter, so I cannot answer your question accurately. Sorry about that!
MJ Meenan, that is interesting, I had no idea...What about a power2max, quarq etc...? I would normally suggest a pioneer but it'll have the battery case on left crank arm just like a stages.
@@jona.136 I am reviewing the Rotor single-sided power meter soon.
@@jona.136 I changed out the BB and put the Quarq on this week. First test ride soon.
Hi Jom, curious to your thoughts on the American Classic Wide Lightning 650b wheels? I have these wheels in both 650b & 700 and have been very happy with them. They are the widest wheelset I have found for this type of riding; 29mm internal, 32mm external. This combined with either Compass or Panaracer tires have been great!
The AC Wide Lightning 650b's are my #1 goto wheel for 650b!
Gravel Cyclist thanks Jom, and what are your thoughts in general regarding 650b vs. 700c
Joseph, I've yet to race on 650b, but they are my fave wheel size for mixed duty riding. By that, I mean... gravel with some singletrack thrown in. I love the nimbler feeling of the smaller wheel size in tight situations. My only complaint is most 650b gravel tyre choices are still too weighty. Thus far, my favorite 650b tyre remains the WTB Resolute 42, due to its lighter than the norm weight and mud shedding capabilities. With that said, I would like a faster rolling option but sans the weight... and then I'd race it. I need to check out some of the offerings by Compass (rebadged Panaracers) as I know they are very light.
Do you know what finish this is in the titanium ? They seem to have a few
Looks very compact , is it a small ?
This was the brushed finish, I believe it was the second PRO GR frame ever made. The size small which it is, has a very small main triangle... but the bike fits me like a glove, in fact, I rode it for about 145kms yesterday.
Gravel Cyclist fair play - thinking of the new diverge comp carbon or this
What height are you and saddle height At 5-8 it’s saying medium for the Lynskey for myself
How is your review of the 2020 version coming?
I don't that bike in for review at the moment, but that may change...
So the MSRP is? ( or is this ‘if you have to ask, you can’t afford it?)
You will have to take a look at the website for pricing - it is all there, sorry. My review bike isn't really a stock spec build. Lynskey ran an insane sale on the PRO GR's a couple of days ago... definitely keep an eye on their specials.
Pro GR starts at about 6500$ for a complete I think
I ordered on on 1/21 for under $3,000 complete 105 hydraulic disks.
davidobijr Where did you order it from?(jealous) I just checked their website and starting price was shown for $6700 now.
Nice one! I couldn't believe the deal they had on the 105 builds recently. Insane.
How tall are you? Is that a small frame?
Which finish is this bike ?
The brushed finish. I do have a polished GR I am waiting to build, but that all depends on the review groupset arriving. Check it out here - czcams.com/video/IzPfd_i40Vg/video.html
@@GravelCyclist oh, is there a reason why you choose the Brushed vs the industrial mill ? I am debating mill vs brushed.
It was a review bike, I didn't have a say in the finish at that time.
@@GravelCyclist if you had to choose. Which would you select? Brushed or mill?
@@jona.136 I ordered individual mill. It was hard to decide without seeing one in person, but I went with 'most popular' one
Can you do the Lynskey Sportive next
I have about three more bikes in the review queue... so, not likely to happen anytime soon. Sorry.
@@GravelCyclist Yes I would be interested in a review of the Sportive Disc. Got one sat in the shed that I'm trying to decide if I should build or move on!
@@dpcwwsm I am doubtful that is going to happen, the review bikes in the queue has grown significantly since the original comment! Sorry about that.
How tall you are and what size is your bike ?
Hello Jacky, I mention the size of the bike I used in the video, but to answer your question. I am about 5'11", and I ride the size small, which is almost a 54cm top tube. I prefer to ride the smallest frame I can get away with, so my fitting method isn't recommended for everyone. I have a lot of exposed seatpost as you can see, but the bike fits me perfectly.
Thanks a lot !! .... I am 5’10” if I choosing the Size M would that be too big?
And I have another question: gravel bike riding feeling is that close to road bike ?
Jackie, you need to talk to your bicycle shop about sizing. I do not feel comfortable offering fitting advice. Thank you.
Thanks for the great review video... however, the music volume could be set just a smidge lower as it drowns out your voice at times.
So the question is:Lynskey or Litespeed?
I haven't ridden the latest iteration of Litespeed's Gravel bike, so I cannot honestly answer your question. But, the PRO GR is definitely a more capable rig than the older T5G.
Gravel Cyclist Thanks! Will y'all be riding the mid Georgia epic?
Two of my guys are definitely attending the 125 miler. As for me, I'm 50 / 50 on showing, albeit in the capacity of filming from a car / locations on the course. At the moment I recovering from a recent double hernia operation.
Gravel Cyclist ah man,get well soon!
Well, I would go litespeed, if you look at the history of the 2 companies I feel that Lynskey lost a lot of innovation and talent when they quit making bikes for years, they didn't really do it for the love of it because they were happy to sell the Litespeed company off for a quick dollar. Then when they saw litespeed doing well they wanted to get back in the game. I can't comment much on the Gravel bikes although the new litespeed gravel bike looks very impressive and the Litespeed Gravel (was t5g) is still all the gravel bike you would ever need, but I can safely say Litespeed Road bikes are way more advanced then anything Lynskey make and the Lynskey have a very bargain basement attitude to there sales strategy that worrys me. I could say more but i think that's enough.
