    I did this same thing with my Fountain Tarot! I adoooore it trimmed sans silver guilding and borders and re-edged in a complimentary matte peach! Its quickly become my soul deck - amazing how much of a connection you can create with deck modding!

    I also don't like this cheap gilding. It wears the cards down so much quicker and hurts the hands. Maybe I can do this with my Mystic Mondays Tarot deck, because I love the minimalistic coloring on it, but that gilding is the worst ever! It arrived chipped, and after just two shuffles, several of the faces were scraped up. 🥺
    I've had my eyes on this deck for so long. Each image really triggers my intuition, and it's all so magical! 😍😍😍
    -- Oo! Ostara!! I want that deck, too! Before I was aware of this community, I was very active in the art community, and I followed several of those artists. Seeing them put together a tarot deck was the most surreal cross over of worlds, and I love it! A few of the cards I'm not big on, but overall, it's such a unique beauty. You've done an amazing job on those edges ♡♡♡

    • @DawnMichelleTarot
      @DawnMichelleTarot  Před 3 lety +1

      Totally give it a try, it makes such a difference for me. I find that if I leave that cheap gilding on a deck I won't end up working with it all. Plus, modding a deck makes it really feel like my deck. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

      @@DawnMichelleTarot I just dipped into my budget and bought the tools you recommend 😅 I'm a little scared of creating imperfections, but I have nothing to lose because, as you've mentioned for yourself, I've really stopped touching those with gilding. Not sure if I'll edge because I don't want to get colors all over my hands, but I don't mind the understated cardboard sideview. Thank you for giving me the courage 💞

    You do such a beautiful job trimming, I love the end results. That said I don't mind gilding it doesn't bother me at all and occassionally I think it is a real feature (hello matte gold and holographic black).

    • @DawnMichelleTarot
      @DawnMichelleTarot  Před 3 lety

      Oh I agree, sometimes it really does finish up a deck beautifully. I have several indie decks that I've left the gilding on because it's high quality and just works well with the deck. Just seem to be the mass market gilding I don't like most of the time hehe. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

    It turned out beautifully! And love the Ostara deck. Someday I’ll try this when I get around to buying all the tools and inks. I really admire people who do crafty artsy things, but all the stuff to acquire feels like a rabbit hole I’ll not sure I’m ready for. Tarot itself has been bad enough or that. ;)

    • @DawnMichelleTarot
      @DawnMichelleTarot  Před 3 lety

      Hehe that is very true. I have actually found that I actually don't buy mod supplies unless I have a specific project in mind so my stash has grown pretty organically over the years. Now journaling supplies and tarot decks... That's where I dive deep into the rabbit hole. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

    It depends on the quality of the gilding, some gilding really annoys me and I've been wishing it wasn't there, this is a brilliant idea. Also I love what you did with the chalk inks and the effect you created.

    big cards, gilding, and glossiness are things I don’t like either. I wanted to cry when I got the deck. How does any deck creator not find those things annoying? I will never understand. 3 annoyances in 1 deck sheeeeeesh 😂😭

    • @DawnMichelleTarot
      @DawnMichelleTarot  Před 2 lety

      I totally agree, however I think in the case of the mass produced stuff the deck creator/artist probably doesn't have much say. I'm guess they just go with what's cheapest at the time of production. Such a shame though, I wish it would have looked like the oracle. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

    I told myself I wasn't going to mod my TOMM but now I'm REALLY thinking about it because the finished effect is so pretty, and you're right - you didn't lose really any noticeable part of the artwork and i love the softer feel of non-metallic cards... erghhhhhh now I have to find out if my dog has fully recovered from her (hopefully temporary) fear of the sound of my paper cutter.... :-|

    I got such a bad cut from mine! I actually put band aids on before using certain deck because of how bad they get. Little painful fu**ers! I haven’t finished the video yet but I am just thinking of how nice the size will be also! They are slippery & I would have more control if it were smaller…I had picked them from the ground so many times the first couple uses…
    I got a big ass paper cutter (my husband lol) it came and I never used it because it was crooked! Like the guard at top of it that can’t be moved. It’s a scary one anyways…I’m glad to see the smaller one works well enough to just cut through cards. That’s all I need!

    • @DawnMichelleTarot

  • @TheTruthinStory

    Love this, I trimmed the gilding off my Spirit Cards in a similar way and I really liked it more than trying to sand it off. I haven’t tried the chalk ink pads before, I need to try that out! I am also not a fan of bright gilding and the cheaper variations in particular!

    • @DawnMichelleTarot
      @DawnMichelleTarot  Před 3 lety

      I wish they'd just leave the cards naked so we could choose what color we want on them. 🙂 The chalk ink covers beautifully but it does have a bit of a texture or "chalky" feel to it. But I find if I just run a light coat on any other stamp over it, it takes it away. It might eventually wear off too, but I can never seem to wait long enough to find out! I just bought a handful of tombows to try on my decks next after watching your Priestess deck walkthrough and mod at the end. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

    Honestly, I have only a handful of decks in which the gilding adds to the ascetics of the cards. Mostly it's just there....flaking, ruffing up my hands and not adding any pleasure to the use of the deck. I really wonder if mass market companies have people who follow you tube and IG for comments about their decks. I think we've all made it clear how we feel about the icky, cheap gilding, especially gold which I'm so tired of. I've never trimmed a deck to specifically remove gilding, but I think it's a great idea! Love the new edges on Ostara!

    • @DawnMichelleTarot
      @DawnMichelleTarot  Před 3 lety
