Cheapest Way To Make Soft Set Honey Plus Win A Free Honey Drill Bit!
This video gives you a simple, no nonsense approach to make soft set honey. Are you wondering how to make soft set honey or are you thinking, I need a simple method to make creamed honey?
If you want to know the easiest method to make soft set honey, then this is the video for you.
In this video I show a simple method to make soft set honey. If you are based in the US, you may be searching for an easy method to make creamed honey.
Soft set honey and creamed honey are the same thing. Its honey that is purposefully set into a smooth state by managing the formation of crystals within the honey. Depending on the glucose/fructose ratio, some honey sets faster than others. All honeys will form crystalline structures of different sizes and its by controlling and minimising the crystal sizes, that we can produce a smooth or soft set creamed honey.
The first part of the easy method to produce soft set honey requires heating the honey to reset the crystal structure. A flash heating above 55c will reset the structure. If you are using the dyce method, you can then add 10% seed honey to you mix and regularly blend to ensure the seed honey is dispersed throughout the liquid honey. The liquid honey will then naturally form around the small size crystal structure from the seed honey and soft set honey will be formed
If you are using OSR honey then you can manually create soft set honey by mechanically breaking down the crystal structure with a creaming machine or stainless steel drill bit. That’s the process I show you in the video.
Why is honey crystallised and does all honey crystallise or do you want to know how to restore soft set honey? I’ll have to do another video to answer those questions.

I’ve seen this done before but didn’t understand how it worked. Your explanation about crystal size makes sense now. Thanks
Thanks Laurence, I’ve had a lot of requests for soft set this year so I need to give this a try.
Absolutely love all your video tips. Thank you for taking the time to share your insights with us. As a new beekeeper you have been ever so helpful. I am slowly working through your back catalogue and enjoying every minute.
Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks for this video and the channel. Just put seven floors together using your under-floor entrance design. I've been running two hives on them this last year and will be converting all my hives to them over this season. Thanks for all the tips and advice.

Fab thanks Laurence, I’ll definitely be trying to make some soft set this season - my drill needs to be put to some good use for a change!
I’m just about to start my 2 year of beekeeping. Thanks for the great video. I learned something every time I watch your videos. I will have a go at softset later in the year. Thanks again. Richard.
Always come up with really practical advice. Thanks again Laurence.
Hi Laurence, grettings from Portugal! Thanks for sharing all the knowledge!
Thanks for showing the different options. I'm in my fourth year keeping and three years into my honey creaming method. Still a recipe in progress. I've never seen that drill bit mixer before.

Yet another great video! Binge watching your videos is keeping me sane at the moment. Keep up the great work.
Really nice to see a British beekeeper that uploads regularly and your videos are very helpful. That bit would also be very helpful.
Great timing I’ve started to do my creamed honey for the first time. Now onto day two few more days to go. Thank you for the great video. Also great tips

Thank you for the great information! Creamed honey is the best!!
Thanks Lawrence we only use the whisk once a day for 3days after adding the 10% seeded honey that we used a pestle & mortar on originally. On the 4th day we jar it before placing the jarred soft set down the shed in cool temp for a week or 2 to set.
Thanks again for a great video. I have been working on perfecting my soft set. This information will help
Like this low cost small scale method. Thanks again for passing on the know how.
Brilliant video Lawrence, will be trying this this year!

Awesome channel. Great to see behind the scenes of bigger beekeeping operations. I'm going onto my 3rd year beekeeping now and your channel is proving to be really helpful. Going to try to make some of this soft set honey over the weekend. Would be easier with that drill bit though 😉
Looks a great product and I would love to give it a try. I have tried to track down one of these Rapido /Rasant drill bits but no luck so far.
Great Video again, thanks for the Tips, will try this this year.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to try my hand at soft set honey this year. Undecided which method to use. I know it won't be the 3k version though 😄.
That's amazing, I almost burnt out a motor on my whisk, I used the dough hook rather than beaters. Just needed to win a prize in the show.
Can't wait to try this simple method.
Your videos are always so informative. Easily my favourite CZcams beekeeper. Keep up the great videos :)
Thanks Rob! That's very kind of you to say so. I am glad you enjoy the videos :D

Pretty cool way to make it, I would love to try and make this sometime soon.
I like your soft set honey demonstration.
Thanks very insightful
Thank for rhe information
Interesting idea for making soft set honey in small quantities on the cheap
beautiful work.
Very informative keep us informed with more information
Sound great
Great video man appreciate you sharing the process! Don't worry about putting me in the competition we don't really have any OSR round us so recon it can benefit another beekeeper. Hope you are well
Love soft set - despite the faff! Like the look of this method
After trying the Soft set honeys you sent and all things looking good to get my own honey this year it would be good to try producing my own. As I don't see getting to your level to need the creamer you now use.
It would be good to offer to other association members to borrow as well.
Best explanation, thank you
Love it, just need to find some OSR now.
I too would love to know where to buy this very useful looking tool. Thankyou for the great demo!
Great vid! I need to try this in the future!
Always interested in new methods
I LOVE your videos! I especially love your accent
First year to try method for soft set honey 🐝💛
Hey Laurence great vid. I love your channel. Your doing well at getting to 20k subs by the end of the year. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! I can see the slopey days of Autumn creeping in though! 20k by Christmas will be awesome! I am SO thankful for all the support! Hope the smoker is doing well
Looking forward to trying this.
Thank you for you tips and tricks me and me son love watching your videos I started beekeeping last year and you have been a huge help
Nice one Laurence. Anther great video. I keep saying I'll have a go at soft set, maybe this year. Cheers, Steve
I get a lot of OSR so this would be good to give softest honey a try.
Great advice, thank you. This year I'm surrounded by OSR and I'm very tempted to invest in an Abelo honey creamer 50 or 70ltr capacity. Do you think this is a worthy bit of kit to buy? I'm very much on a budget so any advice would be much appreciated. 👍
Looks fantastic your machines I would love
Not a fan of it myself but people want it .
Thanks for the video
Looking forward to trying this
Yes I would like the drill bit
Have a great day
Keep up the good work!
Thanks for another great video. Tell me, do you return the honey to the warming cabinet inbetween the spinning?
Great video. Would like to try that Drill Bit for my honey.
Great video very helpful
Thanks for your information. I like the way you explained everything.
I have been a Beekeeper in South Africa now for going on 3 years. Started with 5 hives and now I have 30 hives. But I want to keep growing to the point that I can manage maybe 100-150 hives.
Not many people know about Cream Honey and want to start doing some to seeing what my response is like with my customers.
I really need to have a drill bit like yours. Do you know where I could get one in South Africa? Take care
Great information. I was wondering whether a dough hook on a kenwood mixer (or similar) would do a good job of mixing?
I'm buzzing to try this
Great vid. Very clear.
