How To Requeen A Beehive
We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our CZcams channel.
On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
#NONONSENSEBEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

I love your content. Keep up the great work. Iâm a beekeeper in the Lee Valley area north London area
Great live format Laurence, White board is so good!!
Thank you. glad it was useful for you. I had fun with it đ
Yes I agree
They didn't evolve an immune system essentially because it's that effective.
Those little â buggers â really like to stitch things together ! đ
Good girls
Be's collect problems for any one of a number of reasons to seal up cracks and smooth off the surface on the inside so it's easier for the steal off all the cracks and breakfast to keep out. Care, be called ventilation is extremely important to the hive. And if there's stray air currents going through then they don't have control. That would affect the way the nectar gets cured in the honey. That would affect the way the temperature in the brood chambers are
I feed my nucs I make in July I like to feed them a bit to get them going Iâm not taking honey from them this year and I make my sugar water with room temp water or even cold water works just have to mix it up good
My queens do not slow down soultis I never heard of it slowing queens down it not even July yet if your queen slows down itâs because she is weak lol my queens will go full out now until fall
When they say they went from 5 supers to 9âis this with drawn comb or is this drawn out and full in a week
Hi , do you have f0 carpatin from Romania? Thank you
Interesting, canât wait to see how it goes !
I always give the hive 2 days to get the queen out. If she is still in the cage I will take out half of what's left of the sugar plug and check the cage the next day. She should be out by then and then I leave the hive alone for 7 days. Mind you the hives temperament is good while I'm doing this . This is how I know they will accept her out of the cage. I have a queen to check on tomorrow. Interestingly this hive is calm and wont budge for the smoker.
New hive new frames mate put a swarm in how long should I feed for it June 29 they seem to be happy and bringing back loads of pollen I can . I have been feeding them for the last few days regards Ben
I love sucking on this stuff. Full of antiseptic qualities
Good sound even when you walked away
Do you collect and use the propolis for anything and did you not get some of they propolis hive boxes
Great info thanks. Looks like you crush a few bees when putting your boxes back together, Nice content bud thanks
Hi Laurence, great video as always, I will be making a split hopefully this year with a queen off you if poss, definitely if the weather carries on. A question if you have the time, I've got a nuc that's a couple of weeks old now, so far they've done a lot of work and grown a bell of a lot, weather down south has been phenomenal since I got them. I have fed them the whole time, 1st week they didn't take much but just did an inspection and they've taken the entire lot down this week, there is a fair bit of capped honey in the hive, they have drawn 8 frames almost fully and are starting to move into the outermost frames. I'm in 2 minds to feed any more as I found the queen wondering about on the latest drawn frame and couldn't see any eggs so I'm wondering if she's running out of room whilst they draw out the last frames as centre frames are packed? Should I hold off feeding, my thinking is they have stores to use and nectar plus the weather is decent so can forage? I've gotten conflicting advice. Some say feed till they've drawn everything and others have said to watch out she's not honey bound. I will tune in and ask on the live stream tonight if I can if you can't reply. All the best, Chester
Loving the apiary Lives Do you leave some of them with a ventilated poly roof? What if it rains...
Why not just kill the old Queen and put the new Queen in there and leave her for 3 days letting them get used to her
Horrible on your gloves makes your gloves all sticky.
First in lol
Keep going with the live inspections, sound good, picture good enough to spot queens and see cells etc đ
Laurence how much is the top frame box for the nuke with a roof
Are those new type rubber gloves your using available in the USA
Please could you do a vid on your carnieolean (Hope i spelt it right.) How do they compare to the buckfast in honey production. Cheers
What about the way of putting the bad queen in a cage for 8 days, in order to avoid emergency cells ? Does it not work ?
You need the nasty or weak queen gone for some days in order for them to accept a new queen.
5 arrived safe and sound today almost bang on 1 o'clock.
Thank you for a brilliant explanation of what to do Laurence , my new Queen came today đ, my eight days will be this Monday, will she be okay until then ?, Iâve got the cage in a nuke just flat on the bottom with the frames removed , kind regards Billie
hi Billie. No get her into the colony asap and just don't open the cage until day 8. She won't last long outside a beehive Laurence
Iâve just brought her in, she is okay, I will wait until tomorrow and I can see better what Iâm doing, I think thatâs what you would tell me to do, Thank you Laurence, kind regards Billie
I have ordered a queen today, I had a colony swarm on me di to my lack of knowledge and I canât wait to keep learning
Gotta be a BMH hay for Aiden!!
Do the queens come through normal letter post, takes a couple of days?
We send them Special Delivery so they arrive the next day before 1pm generally but sometimes it can take a couple of days
@@BlackMountainHoney OK thanks.
Whenâs your next live stream Laurence ?
This Saturday at 830pm bst
Excellent watched your live stream from the hives I thought it was great ,picture quality was good and could here you loud and clear great job as usual
Really good to see this lots for everyone to learn
Hi Laurence! Are you overwintering these colonies in the double nuc boxes?
How would the approach change if the colonies are large, but hopelessly queenless? I got very unlucky and all 3 of my hives swarmed at the same time, and no queens have returned. No hives have eggs or larvae but still a good workforce but looking like I'll have to introduce queens. I imagine you start the process from a later step?
How big is the room?
I am going to trt this
You never answer back lol but I like your vids
Hallo Wie sind deine Erfahrungen mit dem smart system? Leider finde ich keine Videos auf You Tube und der Hersteller gibt keine Antwort auf meine Anfragen. Gruss aus der Schweiz.
My hive died had for 2 years ..ty for contuing for međ
I'm finally at 1k subs - started to live stream too! This is brilliant Laurence :)
Amazing. your videos are SO good gonna be huge. I just know it Looking forward to filming again soon
@@BlackMountainHoney Thanks Laurence, trying to get some good stuff on the channel. Tough at the moment in running the restaurant too! Lets get a date for another vid! Would love to visit you this time!
@@TheBoat.Restaurant Let's do it. you are always welcome đ
Is there not enough to do it into a honey bucket?
Curious.... How do you sterilise the jars? Do you re-use jars for sale honey or just home use?
I will try to work out the dimensions. But, you might want to add SAE measurements for us Yanks on the other side of the Pond. Lol
Hi Laurence, have you any experience using Varromed for varroa control.... Loved your live stream and the two queens arrived safely that I ordered from you. Thank you...đđ
