I like the gabled roof. Plenty of room to feed fondant. Room for insulation as well. (You seem to be missing a crown board in your setup?) And they look great and keep the rain off your hive. A gabled roof is the best!
Nooo, we got the same clone version (heh) BUT I do pity the bee on your left leg.... Think you squashed it 4 times or so!! 😂
Keep up the good work!
I have only handed WBC roofs but I definitely like the flat roofs as I put my roof on the floor upside down and then the supers on top.
I'm changing mine now on the strength of your advice. Thanks for the tip
What tree should a beehive be made of?
Cup of tea and some biscuits would relax the situation lol ,
WBC hive roofs usually have bricks on them to stop them blowing off. You just put the bricks on the ground spaced so that when you place the roof between them upside down it doesn't rock. Then you can stack supers on it, no problem! 😅
I have only used flat rooves, but you can make a v-shaped stand to rest your inverted roof on and do the same manipulations as a flat roof. Like you I'm not a fan, but the above gives those who like them an added piece of kit.
Totally agree...
...except that the flowhives are NOT cheap!!!
Is that the one that's made out of Chinesium? Or is it a genuine one from Oz? Although to be fair the genuine items don't seem to be much better built with regards to the tolerances etc. And I say that as fan of the Flow extraction, if not the hive design. I'd quite like one of those single-colony Hyde hives with Flow frames, and a few trad-design wooden-built Langstroths with standard Supers. Anyway, when I'm able to jump back into it I'll be in touch for a nuc.
I hate the flow hive roofs too they are trash mine didn’t last a year and the screws stripped out
I see the perfect gabled roof in the future!😂
Agree, I have four Flow Hives and after the first the rest just went directly into the trash.
I like the alluminium roof better
Gabled roofs are useless for sitting on 😆
We have the same problem with ours. It’s becoming firewood
The only thing I can say about any type of flow hive is that they are not for beginners...
There is no difference in how to care for the bees, only in the way the honey is harvested.
If you lack education, you will fail at anything, it doesn't matter how you start.
You are write. I hate there roofs like that to. I need to set stuff on top to .
hate those roofs, love that fact you dated your video👍
The fake flow hive is rubbish wood, that one with the holes is the Chinese version. The real one is much better, the cedar flow lasts nicely but i agree, a flat roof makes more sense and usefull.
Playing devils advocate it comes across that first and foremost it's the materials themselves that are shocking and that comes down to accounts not allowing the designers to over engineer rather than the design itself. There's plenty of others as well as Abelo that are just as well made
I'm not so sure. The material is ok for what it is. But plain untreated wood, no matter how good, isnt suitable for horizontal surface exposure to water. Whoever is behind it, it was a cost saving decision which the engineers should have revolted against!
@@BlackMountainHoney I doubt the engineers would have much say in the matter. It's the accountants that make the final decision. They are the ones that dictate the expenditure and cost cutting exercises. They are the ones who are responsible for negotiating with the manufacturers who produce it. It is not the engineers. Like it or not it is not within their remit you are blaming the wrong department.
So just to be clear, you don't like gabled roofs 😂
Ha - I think I got my point across then LOL
