      Greetings Mr. Reynolds,
      During my last inspection I opened my hive and could immediately tell the bee's had no queen or eggs (without removing any frames) just based off the smell.
      I was wondering from your experience if there is merit to such an observation and what your thoughts on this are?

    Kamon,let me start by saying that those are some beautiful queen cells. You definitely do a great job grafting and rearing queens. I have been watching your videos for quite some time now and I hope to raise queens in the near future. I also watch some of the other beekeepers queen rearing videos and most don't compare with your's. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more. Thanks again for your informative videos and best of luck with your bees.

    Chinese grafting tools are awesome. Don't listen to those who use them straight out of the box. Take it apart and sand the tip very fine then trim the end even again. Super thin works every time. Joe May used his for a year or longer, showed me how to do it, and gave me his. I do have the $70 one with shipping. Works better than everything else.

    • @mmb_MeAndMyBees
      @mmb_MeAndMyBees Před rokem +2

      No. Virgin Queens hatch, mature for a few days within the Hive, say on Day 4 or so, if Weather is good, go out on their Mating Flight : to a local Drone Congregation Area (DCA) where the Best 'Boy Bee' will win the Conquest. This is done several times by different Drones. The Queen flies back to the Hive to be hopefully an awesome Egg layer.
      [She will never leave the Hive again, unless told to Swarm, or Beek Sells her on etc.]
      Nature knows best. Boys will be Boys :Passion, then they die. A Fling thing. 😉

      I think the nicot can work well. There is a husband wife dou that raises 1000s with it in Europe. However, I don't know what it takes to make the queen lay in the special frame

      @@wrfarms9741 Visited Bill Hamilton at Black Birch Farms in Newburyport Mass back in 2020. Bill runs 200-300 hives and gets to some of them in snow shoes, while dealing with bear issues (not for me). He uses Nicot due to vision. I used it a few times but if I took the queen out after laying, they would clear the eggs from the cups. Guess she must stay in until you’re ready to move cups/larvae? Thought I’d throw that in.

    • @mikeries8549
