Greetings Mr. Reynolds,
During my last inspection I opened my hive and could immediately tell the bee's had no queen or eggs (without removing any frames) just based off the smell.
I was wondering from your experience if there is merit to such an observation and what your thoughts on this are?
Those queencell look fabulous. Kamon. Thank you for sharing.
hey kamon!!! can we sell our own hivelife shirts??? a guy named david burns is selling hive life shirts an d i want to know if we can sell those to??? thanks waiting for your answer i got good ideas for shirts to!!!!!
Nice video Kamon. I need to start making some of my own queens. Plan to maybe give it a try next spring.
Kamon, let me start by saying that those are some beautiful queen cells. You definitely do a great job grafting and rearing queens. I have been watching your videos for quite some time now and I hope to raise queens in the near future. I also watch some of the other beekeepers queen rearing videos and most don't compare with your's. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more. Thanks again for your informative videos and best of luck with your bees.
Two thing I learned: 1. Even my biggest QCs are not big enough, and 2. You can leave them out a lot longer than I thought. I’ve done it by accident and have them still emerge, but I’m thinking, “Kamon! Get them in the heat!”😂 Thanks again Reynolds family!👍😃🐝
Lol you are very right! We likely are over killing it at times but that is the way to do it?
@@kamonreynolds Better than under-killing it. 😂
Thanks!
Thanks so much for supporting us Collyn Carey! Happy Beekeeping!
These are really nice queen cells you are holding. Do you have any specific video that explains how to make great and nice queen cells like these?
Chinese grafting tools are awesome. Don't listen to those who use them straight out of the box. Take it apart and sand the tip very fine then trim the end even again. Super thin works every time. Joe May used his for a year or longer, showed me how to do it, and gave me his. I do have the $70 one with shipping. Works better than everything else.
Hello Kamon! What humidity setting do you prefer?
Love your videos!!
Thanks for all you do!!
Thanks Tony! Thankfully all you have to do for humidity is to not let the sponge dry out. I keep mine damp 24 -7 and it works perfect
У тебя отличного качества маточники! Должны быть хорошие матки
Hey kamon how long do you leave your queen cells in the incubator after there capped over after 7 days.
So if you push the queen into the brood area with the protector, (Orange thing) won't the queen not be able to escape to lay eggs or did I miss that step?
Hey Kamon! LOVED the conference! (Had to mention that right off). How long can you keep the queen cells in the incubator?
I do from day 6.5-7 day to day 10. But you can run them a little longer but you are cutting it close
Hi from Chimacum, WA. I’m searching all your queen videos for the title of the book you recommended for raising queens. I’m unable to find the right video. What is the book? Thanks much.

Hi Kamon, what growing Zone are you in, i see tennesse has several...
How can I use with out incubator
Great looking cells - you got the grafting down pat! Appreciate all you do for beekeepers. Hope to make it down next January for the first time.
🤩. is a good place to
Hi Kamon, is there a printed resource that gives a step by step process for raising queens? I'd like to learn this skill to add to my apiary
Queen rearing essentials. It's enough to get you started but it's not a perfect book. You'll make mistakes then adapt.
Beautiful queens. Thanks for the inspiration and advice. Take care.
Thanks happy beekeeping!
@@kamonreynoldshow long are those cells
oh the long cell short cell debate LOL
I prefer the long sexy cells but I have seen monsters crawl out of stubs many time :)
Ah yes that debate! but I say if they are bigger I know they had to get the best treatment. Even if that was in unnecessary excess and the queens are technically not better :)
Thanks for the video 😊
Those cells look so good it almost makes me want to start grafting. 45 cells would be enough for 3 years for me and I still have some extra. LOL Good job with the camera Laurel. Thanks.
She says thanks Russell! Thanks for the compliment on the cells
Great tool recommendation!
Thank you. We try not to waste our time and don't like to waste other's time and money on poor stuff.
Really nice looking cells!
Thank you! Cheers!

Hey Kamon!!!
Hey there how you doing?
@@kamonreynolds Good!! Keep up the great work!! #hivelife24
Do you put drone brood in the mating nukes 2 or do you just place the mating nooks around other drones?
No. Virgin Queens hatch, mature for a few days within the Hive, say on Day 4 or so, if Weather is good, go out on their Mating Flight : to a local Drone Congregation Area (DCA) where the Best 'Boy Bee' will win the Conquest. This is done several times by different Drones. The Queen flies back to the Hive to be hopefully an awesome Egg layer.
[She will never leave the Hive again, unless told to Swarm, or Beek Sells her on etc.]
Nature knows best. Boys will be Boys :Passion, then they die. A Fling thing. 😉
EXCELLENT and very encouraging instruction! Beautiful frame of cells, Kamon!!
Thanks Harry it is prime time in Tennessee and we are trying to make the most of it!
Very nice take of queen cells. I am terrible at it. I get maybe 50% on a good take. What is your opinion of the Nicot Queen Rearing Kit? Have you tried them yet?
Thanks! Well not all my takes are this good my I missed 16 out of 45 earlier that week!
I think the nicot can work well. There is a husband wife dou that raises 1000s with it in Europe. However, I don't know what it takes to make the queen lay in the special frame
@@kamonreynolds If you have an interest and time, I can share with you my experiences with the Nicot system. I got a queen to lay an egg in every cup but was not able to go forward due to a scheduled surgery. I still suck at queen rearing. LOL
@@wrfarms9741 Visited Bill Hamilton at Black Birch Farms in Newburyport Mass back in 2020. Bill runs 200-300 hives and gets to some of them in snow shoes, while dealing with bear issues (not for me). He uses Nicot due to vision. I used it a few times but if I took the queen out after laying, they would clear the eggs from the cups. Guess she must stay in until you’re ready to move cups/larvae? Thought I’d throw that in.
I think I'll try nicot in an observation hive. It's easy to screw up and look too early or wait too long.
That system is fickle and I've never had it work but gave up pretty fast.
this seems like a great stategy. However to get a good queen rearing is only half the issue. the best queen from the best genetics, poorly mated is still worthless.
What a great setup. I could use every bit of that . I went to get some cups the other day an was told they do not carry the jzbz stuff. I said OK BY BY . Thanks
When you sell the caged cells and ship them off on that tray, does that mean your sending people virgin queens? I've only ever purchased laying queens, I didn't even think about the option of people wanting virgin queens. I'm going to dabble a bit with queen rearing this year for fun and see how hard it is.
A select few do sell virgins like that. Most let them mate first and lay for a couple week then ship
What temperature do you keep your incubator?
Google it tosser
Great video! I put my grafted queen cells in the 5 frame mating nucs last Thursday. Noticed robbing on Saturday so put on robbing screens. Left them on a couple days and took off. No robbing yesterday. Came home from work this afternoon and 4 nucs were getting heavily robbed. Didn't even have sugar syrup jars on. Any advice?
Greetings from the Dutch blogger
Welcome!
How important is it to not move the queen cells on day 8 and 9?
You can totally move the cells into mating nucs or into your incubator on that day. The cells are more fragile on these days then day 10 but with care it is fine
Tried my my hand at grafting queens 2 weeks ago and only got 3 out of 28 to take. Had a lot of fun trying and practice make perfect.
Kamon, I need a new hat, mines gotten pretty gunky being worn non-stop since January. Is Hive Life merch only available at the conference? I'm going to have to get a second one so I can have a going to town hat. :D
What a wanker ,he is showing how to produce queen bees not sell effing hats
Do you feed your other colonies at this time, too? Do you worry about them moving sugar syrup up into the honey super?
No just the colonies raising queens or little new splits if the flow isn't very strong. If we did have super on and had the desire to raise queens we would then feed our honey back to them diluted down by 2 parts water to 1 part our honey.
the most important tools are calm hands and sharp eyes😉
Kamon, in your five frame nucleolus queen building video the number one what is the veil that you had on
Same here with the styrofoam!
Terrible sound!
94F! You set that thing to 94C and you'll be one sorry bee keeper. Bee cooker more like.
Yes that would be a BIG problem 😄
@@kamonreynolds It took me a few seconds to translate, even though I leave mine on Celsius (34-35). 😂 Yeah, I guess 94C would poach them, or have them emerge in 18 hours into an inferno.
I think that we, TN beekeepers, need to pass the collection plate for a new TN beekeeper shirt. ;)
I agree! It is too bad our state organization has been an embarrassment for decades. A lot of good people in TBA but the system is setup for failure
Or Kamon needs some time off to wash cloths. LOL
I joined TBA 15+ years ago, paid dues for 5 or so, and stopped. Didn't really see the value.
We need an update on the apimaye yard. I was debating on picking up some of their 10 framers. Have a few 7 frames, but was looking for status after a few years of honey service.
Hey kamon, what would you say is a pro to using an incubator vs putting then into a finisher?
You free up space for more cells faster in an incubator. Plus I can plug it into my truck and take it to the mating yards with me!
@@kamonreynolds thank you!
It's been a few years now since I started making my own queens and the grafting tool was a paper clip. Now getting better wintering bees since I only use bees that get to spring bursting at the seams. Still waiting for spring here another snowstorm in Wisconsin yuck.
1st lol
When you sell Queens are nukes do you meet people or do you allow them to come to the house
I can’t stand styrofoam squeaking either!
A really useful contribution, Styrofoam squeeking ,..Ffs
